Good video Mark, and Yes if I had the money I would be there... you hit the nail on the head when you said that for most of the participants money was no object ... thats why it will always fill its 100 slots for cars ..... yes over £100k may seem obscene to some people but when you have 100 million in the bank then its just a nice way to spend your interest that you earned that month.
If that money was expendable and I had it, yeh I’d love to make those memories. Reality though, that money would pay my mortgage off, and allow me to look for a part time work, so that I could spend a few extra days a week loving life. Rather than working 5 days a week, hardly ever getting a proper lunch break, then wasting some of the weekend with the mundane tasks of running a household, because you and the mrs are always at work. Time is more precious than money.
No way would I pay that money to do Gumball ! I Love cars but the whole concept is an obscene waste of money and you can visit those places at your own pace without the circus and worry of mega high costs.
Yes you can visit them places, but to drive your own car through the route the gumball is taking this year for example would litterally be impossible to do in any other situation. The gumball has made SO many special arrangements with govenments and border controls to be able for the people on the rally to do this it's actually insane what they managed to get OKed. That's not even including the stops on the way, like an ancient temple they are having a dining event at etc. (the last time it ever had an event at it was the president of the country's marrage over a decade ago and that's just as an example of one stop and how prestigeous an event like that is, and every evening has an event of this caliber). Also a huge part of Gumball is a charity called "The gumball foundation" who builds things like sports facilities in these remote parts of the world they visit along the rally, so to say it's a total waste of money is a bit hyperbolic. A lot of these people are multi multi millionairs, OFC it makes little sense to someone who's working a 9-5 on minimum wage to spend that as they would be paying it back for the rest of their lives, but paying a few hundo to goto a festival is probably around the same % of yearly income as it is for most of the people that goto Gumball and it's entry cost for them. Yeah it's a ton of money, but it's not like these people don't have it to spend, and it's their money to do what they want with.
The crazy thing isnt only that...if we were honest: Its a huge circlejerk to get to know people + (most importantly) you bought all that Fairness to literally just rub it into the people spectating. For them its also fun, but all that cheering into the crowd to get them to go crazy on your incredibility is the undenyable main course. It started with loser multimillionaires of the obnoxious poser type...and they went full throttle. Gumball isnt that anymore...its just seeing and been seen. Back in the day the drivers payed hige fees, had legitimate problems with police and let their money speak. A couple thousand bucks for speeding or a night in jail was, what you aimed for...and not routinely drive on barricaded strips of road or a convoy with police escorts. Who wins and who gets across the 3000miles first....thats what it was and that not even a part of it anymore for most participants. Otherwise you couldnt have a Business on gumball.
There’s also the other small things like visas, cell phone service, giving back to community, tipping for helping, the occasional accident or mechanical failures, and lots more. This was just the Basics on what it would cost. Great video very informative never knew the whole price!
I mean we knew it was expensive but its cool to see the price breakdown so I can compare when I go on the tour one day💪💪 Thanks for the video Mark, hope you're having a good day

I have been fortunate to do 4 gumball rallys (3 USA trips & europe to Japan)... the entry fee & logistics of the rally costs have gotten more & more expensive every year as it goes on... Last gumball i did was Toronto to Miami & is was an AMAZING trip/experience.. If you are able to do just 1 gumball, it will be an experience of a lifetime. Plus you get to network & meet some fantastic individuals in the rally & the people you see on the rally in the different cities... But it is VERY expensive. This years gumball cost estimated 200k, which is nearly double of the year previous

I remember this being kinda cool when I first remember seeing it on I think MTV and Channel 4 series some 20+ years ago. I can't imagine wanting anything to do with it now.
For sure it’s a little different. But I feel life has changed. Big celebs would be judged for doing a car rally on social media, so they worry for the backlash.
I remember when gumball was about, who can bring the most ridiculous rides there to see if it can survive the whole journey And if your car got break down, you just hitch a ride with another gumball member to finish the rally, that was gumball and that was very entertained. But but now it's just plain old boring rallies
LOL did you even watch? Also remember what? Its still about survival, cars break down and yet they still drive it. That is the spirit and always been. But the most ridiculous rides? What? There were 2 teams that done that, but also their work was around that. The other 100 cars were exactly like now, luxury supercars with stickers
@BeardedBear69 ppl used to bring wacky rides and dressed up in costumes at the Gumball, and some who didn't have a ride would hitch hike throughout the whole rally even if their cars brokdown as well. There are a bunch of luxury cars. Yes, but the ones with the most attention were the ones with the weirdest set of vehicles. I started watching gumball since 2005. So I still remember these things, even that ice-cream van that was a part of Gumball So it wasn't just about a luxury vehicle It's just boring now Car still breakdown.Yes, and sometimes people will just give up part way on the rally and return home
Mark you forgotten to mention the true value of Gumball as a business- it's over $380 Million.. owners of Gumball makes a fortune every year on advertisement..
100% would do it, you'll never get to drive the roads and experience the countries with all of those cars in tow any other way, definitely got to be done at least once, bucket list item for sure.
The entry fee is high. But it also covers hotels (which are usually all 5 star or the best in the area) access to all post driving events, parking and security, police escorts when needed, and coordination and planning for all of this done behind the scenes. This years event also covers access to F1 in which the access the Gumball drivers get isn’t cheap. Plus all the gifts they get are worth a couple thousand. During the event, people pay for food and fuel. That’s basically it. Considering what it is and what’s included, it’s not unrealistic for the fee to be high.
I was lucky enough to be the co-driver for a friend for Gumball 3000 in the states. I believe at the time, he only paid around 15-20K US to do it. Which, at the time was still an insane amount of money.

The gumball looked much more fun back in the day when it was more modest cars but people still modding them and pushing them to the max. But tbf there's nothing stopping you doing everything they do in the event but not be part of their specific event
Good on ya brother worth every penny life is for living. Your so down to earth and honest it gives us all hope.
Hope to see you in Australia one day on ya cobber
Shmee saved 60k in deprecation if he only did 500 miles on each car. He is smart
I definitely would do the Gumball if I had the money. It is an epic adventure. 😎

@@MarkMcCannMk2I will be your next copilot if you plan on doing another gumball.
Dave from DDE told us the paperwork alone with all the permissions to cross all the countries was $4500.
Yeah crossing Vietnam streets with those monsters is HARD MODE.
So?
Right , he said thy were in knee deep about a 100,000
Amazing video mate... really interesting to see what goes into such a big rally... glad you guys had an amazing time. 💯❤️
What a brilliant & honest video 👌 thank you Mark
You pay for an experience.. You could do it, but wouldn't be the same
But for people with megabucks it's also an opportunity to meet other other people megabucks ... highly likely business people
Because you see life differently doesn’t mean everyone is on the same page loll

Exactly and you have clowns In the comment saying it isn't worth it when you're proof right here
Just showing up and "networking" doesn't mean you'll get anything out of it. Networking only works if you're good enough at it.
unfortunately it will only continue to get more expensive. Costs of everything only ever goes up and not down, it is inevitable, like death and taxes
I mean it is their 25 aniversary, so it's kind of a special gumball this year and they really went all out on every aspect (which is probably a big part of why this year is so much more expensive).
