Heyyy y’all! Thank you so much for watching this video. If you’ve made your own plant based meat substitute pleaseeee share different ways you’ve used it. Since I make a batch of it every week, I’m always looking for new ways to use it!
Try adding cauliflower to your walnut and mushroom mix. I did it this week. Oh my gosh it was amazing! I made some enchiladas with it. You going to do the same thing you do with the mushrooms and a walnuts. Chop it in the food processor. Don't cook it prior then cook it with the walnuts and mushrooms. It adds up meaty chew
Here's another suggestion if you don't want to eat mushrooms, use lentils or small red beans instead. When you mix the lentils with walnuts it's very meaty, especially when making spaghetti and nachos. Or if you are allergic to nuts, just do lentils and mushrooms together. Still going to be meaty and add in a little liquid smoke to give more umami flavor.
Yes I use brown lentils with either mushrooms or pecans all the time. Lentils are super inexpensive and help me stretch the more pricey items like nuts. And I haven't tried it with liquid smoke but some worcestershire sauce also addsp great umami "meat-like" flavor. I'm not vegan so I use regular worcestshire but I'm sure vegan worcestershire would yummy too.
Black beans and sweet potato are a great combination for burgers or sausage patty recipes. Sunflower seeds work great for tuna...see raw vegan recipes. Other great substitutions are cauliflower, brown or green lentils, chickpeas, bulgur, tempeh, jackfruit, artichoke hearts, and leeks. Visit your local international store and Farmer's Market to try some new grains, vegetables, or beans as a substitute. It also depends on what you're making, because fried avocado can be used for tacos, but wouldn't work well for lasagna. Check out vegan restaurant menus. Lastly, using the same seasonings and spices really helps meat substitutes give you the experience you're looking for. Using the proper cooking technique makes a big difference too 🌱 Great video once again 🤎
Thanks for this video. I've made this a couple of times and I've found that it is better to process the mushrooms and walnuts separately because the walnuts will get too mushy. I have a larger food processor that can hold all of the ingredients. Keep the recipes coming helping to reduce the amount of process foods we are consuming.
@sweetgreensvegan *I'm so glad I actually have all of these ingredients in the kitchen right now. I will definitely be making this exact recipe, along with large cap, portobello mushroom burgers for the rest of the week & into the wkend! My fave! **_Oh, and thank you for demonstrating that tip last weekend vlog. I am making a batch tomorrow using your recipe for my tacos. I will make enough to make a veggie burger…..I add bell peppers and black beans or chic peas. Your channel is so inspiring. I am motivated to cook more
I will say yes you can freeze the walnut meat, I’ve been doing this for a year now. I make them in large batches pre seasoned based on the meals Im making. Also if I make a raw plant base meal I still preseason and freeze the walnut meat. Just take couple mins to toss on stove and prepare the meal you’re making. I do the boiling method and season the water with no base chicken bouillon and onion powder. If it’s for a raw meal, I just soak overnight.
@@Guccinanii_ I boil them for about 30 to 45 min, not on a high boil. If I make spaghetti, I make my sauce from scratch so after my sauce has been cooking for 2hr, I add the boiled walnuts to the sauce and it simmers in there for another 1hr and half. You don’t have to make the sauce from scratch but I would simmer your favorite sauce for about 30 min before adding noodles. It still will have a slight crunch but shouldn’t be like cereal lol. Hope that helps
You are so blessing. I make this recipe often. This week I used your recipe and also placed celery, carrots and red onion to the food processor and added white pepper, Tony’s creole seasoning and Thyme to the spices 🥰. You make this vegan lifestyle easy sis

You can also substitute with lentils. And yes, you can freeze the walnut and mushroom ground. I also would like to make hamburgers and sausages with it. I haven't tried it yet but I think I have an idea on how to make the hamburger. But with the sausages, you would have to know the exact spices to use. I can't wait to see how you make your sausages with it, so that I can copy your recipe. 😁
