JOVAN, 34, from Washington, D.C. has carved out a successful career as a model, which his skin condition vitiligo has helped to propel forward. Jovan first noticed his vitiligo above his mouth and under his eyes where his glasses were. Each year the vitiligo spread more and more. He says growing up with the skin condition was difficult but ultimately it helped him become the person he is today. Dating has had its challenges with some women unable to see past Jovan’s vitiligo. Having never been on a blind date, the model is starting the new year with a first: a blind date with Lene. Both Lene and Jovan were born and raised in Washington, D.C. but what else will they have in common?

This seemed authentic - they had a genuine connection (aside from their conditions) and it felt like a REAL date, not a "made for tv" date. Loved this! I hope they stay friends, at least. :)

My boyfriend has vitiligo and was EXTREMELY shy before our first date. He genuinely thought I wouldn't like him because of his skin condition but I think he's absolutely beautiful. Of course if you look good, you look good regardless of what your skin looks like. But I hope these 2 work out. This was so cute to watch 😍

So many African women have bald heads and it’s beautiful. Unfortunately, here in the states, black women are not the “beauty standard” which is based off of European standards.
Just growing up in the states.. I’ve noticed this and it’s shocking to me. I’ve always thought all black women were beautiful.

At any rate the beauty standard isn't even real life any more. It's all photoshopped and unrealistic and none of it matters anyways. It matters what kind of person you are.

My mom had Vitiligo. Watching the process of her skin color leaving taught me a lot about who we really are and how we treat each other... we really are all the same under our skin color. It does not matter what color people start; all people with Vitiligo turn pink. We really are one people.

GOOD FOR YOU Jovan! My GRANDMA had vitiligo MY entire life -- she got it in her 40s and transitioned at 94. A Grandma with white hands and feet with a white scalp, hairline, nose and a BEAUTIFUL cumulus cloud on her chest is ALLLLLL I never knew!!! It NEVER bothered me and I never thought of her ANY differently -- my Grandma was MYYYYY absolute favorite!!! MUCH success to you Jovan -- wear your VITILIGO with PRIDE -- it's what makes you YOU!!!
