When Jasmine first noticed an area of her skin had turned lighter, she brushed it off. But as more spots appeared, Jasmine went to her doctor where she was diagnosed with vitiligo, an autoimmune skin condition where the cells that produce skin pigment are, as Jasmine put it: "being attacked by the body.” The vitiligo soon started spreading over Jasmine's body and face, growing 1mm every six months. Jasmine’s confidence was knocked. She told Truly: “I was really scared. Often I’d look in the mirror and just cry.” When she turned 25, Jasmine decided to embrace her vitiligo, leading to her creating ‘Tough Skin’ a non-profit organisation, which encourages people to embrace themselves. Concluding on her journey to acceptance, Jasmine added, "Vitiligo has really helped me to understand that skin colour doesn’t matter. You can be any colour under the rainbow and be beautiful just the way you are. I think a lot of people need to hear that.”

I have vitiligo as well, my spots are getting larger by the month. I hope when it hits my face I’ll be able to have her confidence. My mom has it and is mostly white now. I don’t even see it on her, and the spots I have don’t bother me.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, and the story of the young lady with alopecia. Every time I look a story, it gives me encouragement. It tells me I’m not alone and I’m not the only one who feels sad about getting this disease/disorder/condition. Both these ladies are so beautiful. Much love to both❤️. Even though I’m still having my ups and downs with my vitiligo (diagnosed in 3/21), these type of videos help me with how I’m feeling. I really dislike when people tell me how I SHOULD feel. No one has that right. Each person has to deal with it in their own way. We mainly need support from family & friends, but sometimes a person gets more support from a stranger who has the disease. I’m very blessed that (at least) my family is very supportive. God bless ALL my fellow vitiligans.

I had a work-mate who developed universal vitiligo. It started after a care crash. She was told it was the result of the trauma because her husband died in the crash and she almost died. Not sure if that is the case for everyone that develops this. But she was beautiful. The only reason I knew she had vitiligo is because of a small patch on her inner elbow. All the rest of her was pure white and she was beautiful to me. If I got this I would hope to turn all white or all brown. But I'm sure you have no control over how fast or slow the melanin completely leaves.

I thank God that you were born.
It's interesting that her first spot started when she was already a teenager. Usually, people with vitiligo have it from childhood. It shows that, maybe, people can develop vitiligo at different stages of life.
I remember some people that would gain many spots and then it disappeared with time.
It's very hard to handle people staring as if that person wasn't normal. I know how it is, that's why I just know some things and people don't need to explain themselves to me.
I'm glad that she became confident in herself. Unfortunately, we can lose the best part of our lives focusing on insecurities. Other people, usually, do focus on them too, but it's necessary to find strength and passion to live without caring so much about their opinions.
Vitiligo is also an emotional reaction.
It can happen at all stages of life i was around 26 when it started.

well her mom is black and dad is white so it seems the melanin in her skin is just decreasing as the dominant gene from her father takes over perhaps it was dormant in her all these years i find it cool she will live half her life as a brown skin woman then a lightskin woman.
