Thank you for this elder of wisdom. Just let him speak . You will learn more and so will we. But you must do your own work so to not get in the way of the flow . IAM 75 and retired counselor. You are very young and just beginning . Don't try to be popular for likes etc and fear not making money in the podcast game. We can feel and see this. Just relax and go with the flow.😊

Adding to the point that one can hold two opposing beliefs at the same time..
Well l am reminded that while Jesus christ died for our sins, to save us. The bible says that belief in christ alone is what saves us....but at the same time we are sinners..
So at the same time we are sinners and saints by Jesus life resurection, belief that while sinners he loves us..

Better to be loved (accepted). The worst advice from therapists and the self-help movement is to be authentic. If you're in trauma and/or highly depressed, being authentic will drive EVERYONE away. You will then be alone. He is ignorant if he says the quote you said.

Every time I listen to Dr Mate I cry. His words have given me the validation I never received as a child who experienced emotional neglect. It feels like he is directly talking to my wounded inner child and she can hear him tell her "she's OK." that my experiences were real and the responsibility for keeping me safe was my caregivers and not my 5yr old self. I feel intense relief and lightness. I can not thank God enough for this man. ❤

Hearing Dr Mate remind us that we say *growing* older has been a revelation for me as I hit middle age. I've encountered so many people who have just been defeated by the narrative that 'it's all downhill from here' or that we 'can't teach an old dog new tricks'. Yet neuroplasticity shows us we can change and improve at all ages. To *grow* older is a call to action and brings hope.

Been dealing with regret lately and it is heavy hard for me and addictions that dinit know could effect others. When Gabor says, Because I do care what I do and how It effects other people. I can relate it aligns with how I want to show up in the world to have a positive impact and be a good ancestor who I used to be so lively with joy. Intentions the truth integrity on a spiritual level prayers that everything is going to be alright

Jay I am a big fan of your Podcast, thanks for bringing back Dr.Gabor Mate, he is such a wise soul, I love the peace and deep knowledge he transmits when he talks. I share with my mom the content of your interviews every time I call her since she is a Psychologist and it’s very interested in your content as well but she doesn’t speak English, so I have to translate , it would be very lovely if some day you could have subtitles for the Spanish speaking community and for many others languages so the wisdom could be spread worldwide. Thanks for sharing amazing content as always 🙏

Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac.
He's constantly talking about killing someone.

Very interesting , hard for the broken heart to heal for the one underneath (beginning of interview) and not realized till later in life when the physical issues interfere with or overwhelm ( barriers physical/mental in the body/brain when overwhelming multiple barriers occur for many people)even when open to help and open to growth.( end of interview) It reminds me of which comes first the chicken or the egg. In relation to growing. Much food for thought. Glad to rediscover this channel. Hard to find this type of thought process to personally interact with. This is my type of thoughtful tribe. I am thankful to come across this interview today.

we can spin the "what right do i have to feel joy, when there is so much suffering in the world" around too "what right do i have to feel all this fear and shame, when there is so much good in the world"
and it reminds me of, when someone said "i always think, when people look at me, that they have bad thoughts about me, that they judge me for who i am. but then i realise, i am actually judging them, bc in my head i just made them this bad person that would judge me without knowing me"
it always helps to spin a narrative around and see if it still feels true or if we just got caught up in something that fear told us to think.

Gabor's description of what it means to not be responsible for how others' feel is helpful.
So many people take that at face value and simply behave without regard for how their actions impact folks.
Thank you for taking the time to lay it out.
I am responsible for my own actions and responses in the world, and when they align with good living and good relationship, then I can say your interpretation and feelings are your own.

The last few years this insistence that no one is broken has come up more and more.
The message behind it is very clear, that everyone is repairable; that no one is left behind as long as we attend to each other in healthy and compassionate ways.
In my experience so far, words carry a great deal of power.
For some folks, telling them they are not broken is empowering, for others, deflating. Some already traumatized people will hear, "There's nothing wrong with you, get over it." Others hear that they're stupid for not understanding, the concept being so far away from their style of interpretation, their ability to shift attitude.
The truth is, while none of us is a machine, if a bicycle can't spin it's wheels, it's broken. If a radio can't emit sound it also is broken.
"Disconnection", a word used here in the video, is a breakup or disunion. Brokenness. That doesn't mean dead.
In accepting there is a brokenness we can seek healing which will as a natural byproduct allow wholeness to express itself (I always think of an espresso machine in my mind and can smell the coffee beans!).
There is no shame in being broken, thank God. It gives others the opportunity to practice their humanity. To come and offer healing to those so wounded that they cannot help themselves. It also gives a broken person the opportunity to be vulnerable and ask for help.
When I feel genuinely broken; helpless, the first thing I need is to be witnessed and heard as that, as how I feel, not as you judge me to be. And then I need the love and wisdom of those who have gone before me and found the reparation required to arrive once again at the expression of wholeness, the mending and setting of broken bones that are rebar for that expression.
