to think of a child, ANY child, having the thought of "something is so wrong with me, I *deserve to be killed*" is utterly heartbreaking. all children are innocent souls, ALL children.

I agree as a general rule.
But psychopaths exist. Joffreys of game of thrones exist. Neurological deficits exist.

Many kids, even if they don't say it out loud or even take the time to acknowledge it to themselves, subconsciously blame themselves for bad things that happen to them. If I were a child in a place that was constantly being tormented, bombed, and villainized... I'd definitely start to think I was on "the bad side" and that I must be bad in some way. It's heartbreaking to put yourself in their shoes and really think about what their thought processes must be

How sad, that, as a female I didn't consider how they're being open and vulnerable. How it's just okay for me and my female acquaintances to be sad or extremely honest. I feel bad that I forget how men feel they cannot be this way.

80, if one is healthy and well, really isn’t that old these days.
Having said that the aging is exponential at that age.
The difference between 85 and 80 is not the same as between 75 and 70. And by 90 everyone is truly ancient, even if they’re doing great and still have some years to go.

I'm Palestinian and Lebanese, my dad was Lebanese from Sabra, Beirut in Lebanon and my mom is from Shatila refugee camp nearby. They're survivors of the 1982 Israeli-backed Sabra and Shatila massacres that killed 3,000 people. It wasn't like October 7th where half of the victims were Israeli security forces and many of the victims were killed by Israeli helicopters or taken hostage. It was a full-on ONLY massacre, pulling people out of their homes, lining them up against the wall, shooting them and their children dead. Raping the women, penetrating women's genitals with guns and pulling the trigger, all at the direct order of Israel. These people are no strangers to the horrors of October 7th, they just don't like it when it happens to them.

My mother is a narcissist who suffered from abuse as a child, my father was an addict my whole life. I had a series of stepfathers who ranged from physical abuse, sex addicts, and emotionally unavailable. At age 12 I was dumped on my grandmother who suffered from depression and who was mentally and emotionally abusive. I grew up with the “what is wrong with me” question all the time, I had trouble processing my own emotions and spent most of my adult life in fight or flight mode. When I became a parent myself, i wanted to be different from my own parents but didn’t know HOW. Two amazing human beings right here, the type of men our world desperately needs! My biggest take from Gabor has been that trauma is not only something that happens to you, it can be something that doesn't happen to you; early neglect, rejection and abandonment can have devastating and lifelong consequences, literally affecting the physiology of your brain. But the authentic self is never lost, when you REcover, you reconnect with something that is always there.

The smoke was building in me for 30 years and it wasn't until I became a mother that I was entirely consumed by flames. The trauma and neglect I lived through made it impossible for me to leave my newborn. I wouldn't go to the bathroom because I was so paranoid that I would neglect her. I kept it to myself and when I had my second child I couldn't keep up the "perfect" standard of care I had established. I finally started getting help to process my childhood trauma.
