Hektor, thanks a million for this video! I have a 1996 Nissan Sentra GXE that had spedometer and temperature gauge problems. I replaced the speed sensor, but the spedo still did not work. Dealer had no idea, and could not order a cluster for this car (discontinued). After doing this, both gauges work great! Thanks again!
Amazing! I think this fixed the issue my daughter's 2000 Nissan Altima has been having. It was getting stuck sometimes at 50 mph but hasn't happened yet since I tried this earlier. I'm hopeful this fixed it. Thank You!!! Now if I can figure out how to stop the blinking Air Bag light, we'll be golden.
I had similar issue ( slightly different Nissan model and year) I tried junk yard VSS same I tried new VSS same I check wiring same... I read somewhere that bad Odometer cluster can cause VSS to not send signal to ECU.. Because I had check with scan tool and ECU was also reading zero speed... So I was going to get I new ( used) cluster... but I couldn't find so I thought to open the cluster and take a part the speedo gauge see if I could find any faults and fix... (worn gears ,blown IC, short etc) found..... nothing everything looked good clean....... So i ended up replacing just the speed gauge and it works... Though now that I've seen your vid and what I learned from dissembling the speedo gauge almost 100% ... The loose screws were my issue too.. Because when taking apart I noticed that the speedo guage isn't really connected anywhere to the cluster expect by those screws and washers...So it must get it's power and ground from there... I did note this as odd design when taking apart but just didn't put 2 and 2 together til I watched this vid... Ohh well at least I only wasted 15$... Also like the banging on stuff method to test stuff.. I've tried it before on other stuff and it works but didn't think to use on cluster... now I'm just gonna use on everything ....thx
thanks, was about to go out and buy a surplus cluster for my 2001 Cefiro (what the Maxima is called in the Philippines), will definitely try this out this weekend
hey. I got three problems 1. the digital mileage display sometimes shows, sometimes partially shows, and sometimes completely blank. The display also has blackened spots. 2. the km/h meter won't move and is stuck at a certain speed, maybe at 20 km/hr 3. the entire instrument panel does not always work. sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when I start the car, it wouldn't work until I've driven several miles. Or sometimes it works from startup until I've driven it for several minutes then it dies. Also when the entire instrument panel does not work, the digital mileage display is completely blank. Thank you for your time!
@@rodneyyarbrough6524 I took the speed cluster out this morning. Used a Phillips head to tighten the screws on the back side of the speedometer. I blew some compressed air on the backside. Also made sure the connections were snug. Put everything back in and the speedometer works like a charm. I don't know which one of the things I did worked, but it's good to go now. Took me about 15 min. Hope it works for you.
After taking the speed cluster out, cleaning and tightening the screws, the speedometer worked for a few days. I'm sure you know how the story goes, it stopped working. So I've resigned to drive my truck with a cluster that works 40% of the time.
I have this same problem with my 96 Max I'ma try thus first before I buy a speed sensor. If it's fixed I'll come back and let you know brotha thankx for the tip brotha #Duley
I have the same car, how could I solve the odometer? It does no work. Do I have to adjust any screw like the video? I need help with that. Nice video...
On my 97 Nissan Maxima the speedometer flickers on and off sometimes, the gas gauge was working perfectly fine with just the other day I filled up the tank twice now it says under half a tank could that get stuck or stick lower
Old 1989 Nissan Maxima, owned since new. Speedometer may read 30mph when stopped, or zero. Gas, temperature gauge, odometer do not work, but tach does. Bad sensor? Or connection?
Could it be a fuse? For me it’s must just the speed it’s ALL of the meters. It will work for a bit they all meters to crazy. I’ll smack it and it works. But it’s gotten worse. I tried your tutorial opened it all up but it didn’t work
I am trying take my cluster out to do same procedure. But, I can not complete the removal. I found 2 screws on top. But, can not find others or tabs. I checked part and there is no tabs on bottom. Where are they? for 2012 altima??
My rpm needle on 96 maxima keeps jumping and sometimes just resting on the right side at 8000 rpm even during idle . Any ideas ? I will try this. Thanks.
I have the same problems with my 1996 Nissan Maxima and I also have a problem when I slow down or come to a turn it shut off but if I'm more a long scratch then it drives real good so what problem
Hi, I replaced my speedometer cluster with another used one. The new cluster lights turned on and all the meters worked fine except the speed meter. Is it necessary to do reprogramming after installation for the speed meter to work? or once installed it should work? I believe the speed meter might be bad but I want to confirm if programming by a dealer is needed or not. The car is 2004 Infiniti I35. Thank you!
Hey I'm having an issue with 2000 maxima. The milage does not show up it looks like a broken calculator, the gas light is on but I have a full tank & the dail is on E plus the speedometer does not work. Can you help me please
Best tip ever, no money, no parts, but problem solved. Thanks for sharing with us!
David Bautista that’s what it’s about 👍🏼
Excellent
Nice to see someone actually fixing something and not just replace parts.
You could be my saviour, man. Going out right now to try this.
That thing sounds great for the millage ... I had 5 of them ..I'm buying another next month lol reliable and cheap to fix that's why I love them
This simple fix worked for me and saved a lot of time and money. THANKS!

Drews Auto No pun intended 🧐 Thanks Homie, good luck with Everything Automotive 🤙🏼
Remove 4 screws and re-do all solders on the counter will be correct. İ have 1996 infiniti i30
the same method applies to the tachometer

my 89 did this, and it worked for a few months after doing this, but dropped again. the problem probably isnt the actual dash at this point

You might have to reprogram it but it’s not necessary to go to the dealership. Just find a reputable shop/mechanic with the right tools 👍🏼
