This was a great press conference in my opinion. I think both Tom and Trajan were honest and clear how things were going to be. I think the most important thing that was said was that we can’t “skip steps.” It tells me that they are going to try to do this development and rebuild slowly and right. We shouldn’t expect to be in play in contention right now and we can’t rush the success of the future for a playoff appearance now.

Funny How Time Changes plans. Before last season all I remember hearing from Gores and many others was that this is a *_Restore_* not a *_Rebuild._* Now it's almost, if not completely, the opposite: A Rebuild that, hopefully, will lead to an eventual Restore.

Secondly, the things Langdon stated about getting players to complement our youth/young players is the same thing Weaver had stated on a number of occasions. Weaver said he wanted to see what we had at the beginning of the season so he'd know what adjustments were needed to make the team better.
Then when he brought the players in, Monty refused to play them. So Weaver did the players who weren't getting run from Monty, a solid and either waved them or traded them so they could be used by other teams.

Fact is, Gores just buys and sells companies He has never actually built a sucessful company that produces a real product from the ground up. He has proven he has no clue how to build an NBA organization. Fans can only hope he is lucky on his 4th attempt with the Landgon/CEO model. Landgon came across as compenent and normal, which was a welcome change from Weaver who's presence and communication style was just plain weird. I disagree with Ku that Landgon layed out a vision for the Pistons Saying you are going to develop young players, hold people to accout for details, not skip steps are just slogans, not a BB team strategy or even statement of goals or expectations. Said this affects every aspect of the organization and sets the standard for success….then why on EARTH did they start an hour late? Terrible look and makes it seem like they’re all talk and they don’t back up what they say. If a player showed up an hour late to a critical tryout for the team and blamed it on traffic, they’d rightly say that’s a poor excuse and they should have found a way to plan for those factors. @@thewordkeeper I was hoping this past season had finally convinced fans and Gores that tanking doesn't work.
This year we will extend Cade. That will essentially make him untradable until summer 2025. But we will not have much if any cap space to work with. So the options to upgrade the roster will be very limited.
Summer of 2026 Ivey and Duren have their extensions or maybe they end up being S&T options. At this point Cade will be able to put pressure on the Pistons to start winning but we will need to pull off a blockbuster trade which is easier said than done.
2027 our future draft picks will have more value making a major trade easier to accomplish. Ausar also gets extended. Some of the young guys could potentially be included in trades. But we still might miss out on the deals we want. Or we might find that out big swing wasn't a home run.
Now we have to decide to gamble on keeping Cade or trading him while we still have leverage.
Sadly trading Cade is probably the better option. But such a trade should provide a huge pile of future picks which will allow us to actually trade for the players we need to be a playoff team.

This press conference was an embarrassment. Langdon seems smart, but the rest is just ridiculously bad. Being an hour late and then talking about the importance of being on time. A joke. And Cade not there. How did that happen? And no head coach and no time table for hiring one with the draft next week. Not good. How can you draft or sign free agents if you don't know who the head coach will be And Tom going on and on without saying anything of substance. He should have passed the microphone to Langdon and said as little as possible. Not a good look. Langdon will need luck. You want to win? Think outside the box. Hire someone like Bill Laimbeer as head coach. That would be a good start. He knows what being a Piston and winning is about. Or hire Becky Hammon.
