Oh dear, Julie! Leaving the pot for a moment to return and find that it had boiled over is something that I would do. As you struggled and succeeded in getting the pot unstuck, I laughed out loud -- not at you, but with you.
OK that is just absolutely too cute…. 🐷 🐷 🐷 can we have a dedicated piglet cam??? 😂 seriously, Mapperton Live is so life affirming, love the Rewilding. BRAVO 👏
Your boil over is actually the way my cooking sometimes goes. Now I feel less foolish for leaving things for one reason or another. It's a glorious jam!
Lol. Piglets are adorable!!! How about Curley, Mo & Larry?? Or Rosemary, Parsley & Thyme??? Hahahaha, so much life and excitement being added with each passing day!! Kudos on the success so far on the re-wilding project!!! You guys should be proud of your accomplishments thus far! In the early Fall, before the weather starts to turn too much, would just love another stroll through the gardens with Luke's mom the Countess. Just take the pressure off by telling her to treat the guide like a song. Where when you don't know the words, you just hum. So if she can't remember a plant, we will hum along with her lol. I just find her a delight!
Oh My Gosh!! LOVE The Little Piglets 🐖 🐖 🐖 ;] LOVE Your Adventurous Show ;] BIG HUGGS from Northern Alberta,Canada!! 🇨🇦 WE All LOVE The UK!! 🇬🇧 CONGRATULATIONS Mama Piggy!! “Oink!! Oink!! Oink!!”
I love tha Alberta kept all these letters!! Even retrieving letters she had sent to others!! To be able to read both sides of the conversation is a gift!!
What are the new piglets' names? Parsley, Rosemary, and Thyme? Then you will have parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme - and onion. Perfect combo for stuffing a Thanksgiving turkey. (No, the herbs & onion, not the babies!) Or perfect for the Simon & Garfunkel song....
I grew black currants because there was a trend that they had a lot of antioxidants. I ordered them from Canada, but I later learned that they harbor white pine blister rust. White pines are not native here, but my ex happened to have planted one right in our front yard. I did get enough for a few years to make jams, but the bushes petered out. I began cheating with bottled black currant juice cocktail from the store, then I went on to other fruits. Making jams and jellies and getting them right has been a journey. The more you make them, the better sense you get when "it's ready" (to jar). Btw, the white pine survived, no sign of blister rust whatsoever.
Oh I’d love to see more videos of the walled garden! I follow Spencer 1508 and they’re restoring their great, huge walled gardens. The history of walled gardens are fascinating and so compatible with regenerative farming etc!
Raspberry are in season in my yard and have made jam already, without the seeds. That’s the bad part about doing those berries as you have to push out the seeds before anything else is addded. Got six jars so far. More to come.
I grew up on a farm so I really enjoy seeing your animals and your wildflowers. Luke seems to be in his element in this video. Also enjoy watching your videos from Italy.
I love it that Mrs. Piggy came to you without any fear to get a friendly scratch! Happy cows! You have a lot of fields. Do people in England buy Christmas trees? Does Devon have a good climate for growing Christmas trees. I think your fields need to be making money. Could you rent them out to local farmers? Or local cattle farmers? What about the soil itself? Is it rich and healthy? Could you sell Mapperton Garden Soil? and Mapperton organic fertilizer from Mapperton cows? Could you sell Mapperton hay to the Royal Stables? I have no idea how to do any of those things. Just throwing ideas around. And did I suggest appiary? Beehives all around that wildflower meadow for Mapperton honey and whiskey!
I feel like 200kg of berries to make jelly, is a measurement they may have done back in the old days of the Earl of Sandwich. :) I'd imagine there were quite a few jars of that kind of thing made in those days. 😊
Learning botany is so edifying! I’m in the process of turning my small (1/4 are) lot into a pollinator-friendly space. I’m also planning to replace many plants and shrubs with edibles.
Congrats on the piglets 😂 I love seeing the countryside and I have never seen a currant bush, glad you showed it! Also mess or not I am sure the red currant jelly must taste very good
Hi. I watch this channel and American viscountess every week and I love them. When I tried to sign up to receive the Mapperton newsletter however I got a message saying, oops something went wrong, please try again later. I’ve tried signing up to receive the Mapperton newsletter three times but always with the same message appearing.
Julie, you should have a new/old world style portrait (more formal) of yourself done and hang it over the mantle. You’ve put so much of yourself into preserving and uncovering the history of the place, you deserve an important presence in that room. It’s now the Alberta and Julie room. ☺️
As a self taught canner, yep watch that boiling pot!!! But Julie you are braver then me to wear a light colored top & work with red currants. I have an apron similar to what my Gran wore since I tend to 'wear' my canning tasks 😂. Loved this episode for all the parts, esp seeing how the volunteers are doing transcription. I did video transcription & time markers for our local public tv station when they did various towns with everyday videographers who chose interesting topics or places within the town. I only wish I could win a lottery so I could spend weeks there helping out with tasks. That would be the best vacation!!!
I learned this trick many years ago to help with boil overs of any liquid you are boiling. Take an entirely metal -dull knife(what we call a “butter knife” as opposed to a sharp Steak knife) or two knives (depending on the size of your cooking pot) and place the knife/knives across the rim of the cooking pot. Some the cross-pot figuration stops the liquid from boiling over. I use this trick with gas stoves, convection stoves and electric stoves as well and it works almost all the time. GOOD LUCK!
I was thinking the same thing about Julie's white shirt!!!! And, I would entirely end up with it over boiled - my record of burning tea pots is unchallenged.
Loving the content this week. What a celebration of life! Keep up the wonderful work of rewilding. Enjoyed Alberta's salad dressing. Can't wait to try it. Look forward to your weekly videos.
Red currants also make a delicious syrup for pancakes and waffles (or even to pour over ice cream). I have not made it but had neighbors growing up who did. My guess is that you just cook the juice down until it is syrupy (of course with sugar).
Ok so the thumbnail had me thinking BABY! But 🐷lets are the next best thing! So adorable 💗 I think you all are doing such amazing things with the estate and brand. The blend of old and new in so many creative ways. You two are on to something. Julie was determined to make a go of it, for her family, and was strong enough to pull it off. So happy for you all!
Love your wildflowers Julie. The red currant jelly looks great, I giggled when I saw your stove top, Oh my God, a very sticky mess to clean but looks like it will be worth it xxx
It looked like you have enough currants to make another batch. Yes never ever leave jelly or jam! Life does happen😂 If you decide to print the cookbook I’ll sure buy one. I plan to try yours and Alberta’s salad dressing although I prefer sweetened dressings I must try it. It looked wonderful. Blessings from Pensacola, Florida
Julie, that jam dilemma was hilarious but very relatable! At least it didn't burn. I personally have burnt water I left boiling and forgot about. The piglets are adorable and the estate looks lovely!
UK evolved to cope with large animals, mammoth, bovines and deer with tough holly, yew and hawthorn for example, and thus also hogs and beaver under broadleaf. They'll be great for promoting biodiversity and ecological balance in the long run. Congratulations and hats off to you both.
Lovely to see you both together and Julie your husband is a natural with the camera and intelligent enough to not be intimidated by it and have a real interest in sharing the lovely animals you have and the piglets have such a lovely environment.
I liked Lukes shirt today, the colour suits him. Beryl is lovely, such a sweet personality. I love anything about Alberta! The piglets are so cute!! Omg poor Julie!! ‘Here is what you should not do making currant jelly’. 🤦♀️😅aww is a shame though
Oh my goodness, I so want you to offer a writers’ retreat near the rewilding area - kind of a Thoreau and Walden Pond experience for an established writing group. Maybe reach out to a national group and see if they would want to do one one year. It would be a privilege for someone to write in nature. Inspired!
I just loved that Julie kept her "disaster" with the red berries cooking in the video.(Yes sugar is a very unpredictable asset in home-cooking,I always find it accelerates the process.) That for me lets me know that Julie is not afraid to make a mistake and then own it. She is just a wonderful woman who actually works far too hard I think. Julie you should try to take 3 days off and go to the tent on the grounds (look at a former video about living off grid, great video btw) and just do nothing, get away from it all, meditate and some yoga and zoom out. You look a bit tired and no wonder, you have a lot on your plate at the moment. Thank you btw for another outstanding wonderful video you and your husband made. Loooove ❤the piglets and mama piggy. How wonderful is it to see some animals still having the privilege to be outside in nature. Can't wait to see what is going on with mama Beaver❤You are well on your way to get an Oscar for preserving Nature's Bounty. Well done!!
This is all so lovely to watch, always....covering lots of areas in the life of Mapperton, but Julie - that was SO funny about your JAM getting stuck, sorry to laugh but you made it so funny, however I hope the jam tasted nice, eventually - thank you and Luke for sharing all your hard work and adventures. I live locally and have visited Mapperton Gardens, wonderful. Keep enjoying it all :).
Hi Julie and Luke, ok so there isn't anything cuter than piglets, the rewilding is going so well. I love the wildflower meadow. The jam is going to be perfect, another recipe for me to try. Thanks so much Julie for sharing. Love from N.Y.
What a lovely video. I am curious about who does the cleaning up at Mapperton? For example, who will clean the spill on the stove? 😀 Who does laundry, dusting the furniture, etc.?
What a wonderful video! Love the piggies!, So proud of you for learning Italian! That would be fun! What happened to the eagles that were on top of the entry gate pillars? The drone footage shows them missing! Did they get snitched? Dredful! Love the re-wilding project and hope that you will use Mapperton for re-establishing historic breeds that are not so popular anymore. So sorry about the jam, but be of good cheer. You can try again. You must, because the Christmas Fayre is coming! How about raising bees around your wildflower meadow? Or would someone local like to put their hives up there? I think Mapperton WIldflower Honey and beeswax candles would be the best! And isn't beeswax used to polish antique furniture somehow?
I noticed that you asked people to subscribe to the site recently (that as many as 70 percent do not). I am a tech-phobe, and it took me ages to figure out how to do that on my television. Lo and behold it can done, though I needed to watch a TH-cam video to figure it out -- perhaps saying something along those lines??? Of course, it might only help the 3 of us out here who are clueless :-). I do enjoy the show. (British family had a wee bit of an estate with tenant farms and lots of horses -- all lost after WWII. Now I am involved with keeping family ranchers and farmers on the land in the US. . . .) best -
I love the 2 of you ang watching and experiencing the beauty as you take us on tour of your estate. up to making redcurrant jelly. Your productivity is mind boggling. From S.A. with ❤
It’s funny you talked about bird’s foot trefoil. I’ve been seeing these yellow flowers all over my neighborhood that I didn’t remember from past summers. Google tells me they’re birds foot trefoil… but it’s invasive here in North America. I’m in Rockford Illinois-Julie probably knows where that is. 😅
It's so beautiful the wildflowers and wildlife. Natives will always bring wildlife they require, no watering, no fertilizer, no work because they belong there. That is an amazing use of your land. We did that to the hill part of our property even though it's tiny we went from only seeing flies and mosquitoes to more types of birds, monarch butterflies and some smaller animals like chimpmunks every little bit matters. There are apps you can download to see what flowers you are growing. I think line 7 is either welcome you (John or home) to their house.
Julie, I think Line 7 says: "....and welcome you lot at their home." ?? I have heard British people use 'lot' in that way. Only it does look like a capitol/upper case 'L', doesn't it? Would she have used Lot in that way, or was it too middle class?

The purple wildflowers are called "cornflowers", "bachelors buttons", and "centaurea". Yep...three names for the same beautiful flower.
So fantastic to see mamma pig have her babies without a steel cage to stop her moving. Love the life u are giving them.
i love pigs! those little piglets are just darling so happy all is going well with the pig rewilding!!
Flowers are Gods jewelry for the earth. 🌹
Essentially Earth.
Gratitude to you and God.
Thoughts to Mapperton for
Rewilding.
That is beautiful!
Yes❤
Tibetans say that wildflowers are the karmic result of the virtues of all living beings
Julie, I'm sorry the jelly boiled over, but I am so glad you left it in. It shows everyone that it can happen to anyone.
BRAVO 👏
Congratulation to the new Momma. The piglits are adorable.
Your boil over is actually the way my cooking sometimes goes. Now I feel less foolish for leaving things for one reason or another. It's a glorious jam!
Oh, how sweet!! Those little piglets are up and going good to just be a few hours old. Amazing.
The piglets are so cute! And mum was remarkably calm for you being so close to her new litter.
I was thinking it was good those aren't wild pigs. Wild pigs will attack you if they have babies.

Greetings from NC, I love all of your wildflowers and all of the beautiful flowers that bloom against the Manor!
Bless all the mummas and babies, so wish all animals could have their babies this way, with the respect and freedom they should have 😀x
I love tha Alberta kept all these letters!! Even retrieving letters she had sent to others!! To be able to read both sides of the conversation is a gift!!
I was curious how those letters ended up back at Mapperton.
I really needed this wild field of flowers today. ❤😢 It's been a hard week. Thanks
Lovely wildflowers. Love them better than florist flowers.
Congratulations on the new litter of sweet piglets! 🥰
Your rewilding project is amazing!! Thank you. 😍😍😍😍😍

The wildflower meadow is enchanting. The sow and her piglets are adorable. I bet the red currant jam is delicious. ❤️
redcurrant
@@nadeansimmons226 Thank you. 🥰
Absolutely ❤ this episode! Sweet piglets, lovely wild flowers, making current jelly and especially Julie and Luke together!!!
I loooove seeing you sitting at the desk in the muniment room to study. It’s perfect for the room! What a beautiful place to study now.
Thanks for tracking the baby animal progress. I can't wait to see more!
Oh I’d love to see more videos of the walled garden! I follow Spencer 1508 and they’re restoring their great, huge walled gardens. The history of walled gardens are fascinating and so compatible with regenerative farming etc!
I know your children are young, but I sincerely hope they are watching you and learning what they can do when it’s their time to care for Mapperton!!
Raspberry are in season in my yard and have made jam already, without the seeds. That’s the bad part about doing those berries as you have to push out the seeds before anything else is addded. Got six jars so far. More to come.
You can tell that Luke really loves his wilding project and his animals. That is so touching. Julie is simply amazing.
I loved the time you spent in the meadow sharing information about wild flowers and grass. It was very poetic. Your camera guy nailed it.
I absolutely love the Viscountess, but am so pleased to see the joy the Viscount has sharing in Mapperton joys.
What a sweet video of you and Luke in the wildflowers... and the piglets are precious!
I grew up on a farm so I really enjoy seeing your animals and your wildflowers. Luke seems to be in his element in this video. Also enjoy watching your videos from Italy.
winken, blinken and nod..or if we want to stay with herbs...rosemary, thyme and parsley?
An amazing new chapter unfolding on the grounds. I love how you guys act as stewards of the land rather than owners.
🐖

Being a history major, I love all the snippets of your masters project. It's so fascinating 😊
I feel like 200kg of berries to make jelly, is a measurement they may have done back in the old days of the Earl of Sandwich. :) I'd imagine there were quite a few jars of that kind of thing made in those days. 😊

Congratulations! Lovely piggies!❤
Just 3 piglets, I would have expected more. It’s very beautiful. Right now my front garden hasn’t been cut all year so I guess I’m rewilding also! Lol
How cute the piglets are, wonderful! Lovely to see, can't wait to see the foals. Congratulations on your great work!
Congrats on the new lives born 🎉🎉🎉 Agree that flowers are the earth’s jewelry ❤❤❤❤❤
The Auntie pig was cute the way she showed you the Mama's babies, and sat by while you looked about. Thanks for sharing
The wildflower meadow is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Love your gorgeous kitchen, modern with vintage. ❣
Deb here. Thank you for caring about the bugs and flowers. Too many people in the States want lawns.
Would love a tour of the greenhouse....it looks so cool............superb ending, cracked me up!!!!
Congrats on the piglets 😂 I love seeing the countryside and I have never seen a currant bush, glad you showed it! Also mess or not I am sure the red currant jelly must taste very good
When I was a child, we'd combine red currents with raspberries to make a luscious jelly. I miss it quite a bit.
Our grandmother would give us a cup and spoon to combine sugar with
Butter an then add currents🎉 yum! But mostly to keep us out of the kitchen!
Red currents, white blouse! You are brave! I would be a mess!
Sorry to see the boiling over of the jam! Hope the good news can be shared soon! Thanks for this episode🎉
Hi.
I watch this channel and American viscountess every week and I love them. I’ve tried signing up to receive the Mapperton newsletter three times but always with the same message appearing.
You were brave making the redcurrant jelly with white outfits on! Well done…..love the baby piggies. 🐷🐷
So exciting to see new life! We all just love your channel and seeing all the things and hard work you and your family do! Amazing!!
Julie, you should have a new/old world style portrait (more formal) of yourself done and hang it over the mantle. You’ve put so much of yourself into preserving and uncovering the history of the place, you deserve an important presence in that room. It’s now the Alberta and Julie room. ☺️
And I love seeing shots of the whole room often.
Love your rewilding project, and the sweet little piglets
Tsk! Tsk!
Never leave a pot on the stove unattended. 😮
*as my mother would say
As a self taught canner, yep watch that boiling pot!!! But Julie you are braver then me to wear a light colored top & work with red currants. I have an apron similar to what my Gran wore since I tend to 'wear' my canning tasks 😂. Loved this episode for all the parts, esp seeing how the volunteers are doing transcription. I did video transcription & time markers for our local public tv station when they did various towns with everyday videographers who chose interesting topics or places within the town. Oh how adorable!!!!! So cute!!! You oth have done SO much! It is amazing to see!! :)
So adorable 💗
I think you all are doing such amazing things with the estate and brand. The blend of old and new in so many creative ways. You two are on to something. Julie was determined to make a go of it, for her family, and was strong enough to pull it off. So happy for you all!
Omg ,I thought that Julie is having a baby she was holding a baby 🙃😘happy for baby piglets also ,they are soooo cute .
The wildlife at Mapperton is increasing so quickly! You both are such great guardians of the acreage that you are blessed with.
Love your wildflowers Julie. The red currant jelly looks great, I giggled when I saw your stove top, Oh my God, a very sticky mess to clean but looks like it will be worth it xxx

Lovely to see you both together and Julie your husband is a natural with the camera and intelligent enough to not be intimidated by it and have a real interest in sharing the lovely animals you have and the piglets have such a lovely environment.
What a beautiful live programme, so enjoyed it.Well done with the rewilding.
Going for your Masters too? Where do you get the energy? Lovely vid of the new babies. Just beautiful.

So many butterflies on so many of the wild flowers!

The white flower looks similar to Queen Anns Lace here in the States. Im sure its from "your area"
Congratulations on your new bundle! 😄
OMG! You just truly became a fairy tale with the 3 little pigs! OMG!
The animals are so cute!
Content is always interesting!! Keep it up!!! Love everything
