Keeping that huge house so beautifully polished, dusted, vacuumed and mopped!! must be a horrendous job! Just think of all those windows and curtains! i'm just wondering why Julie closes curtains in rooms that aren't being used... LOL. I'd be like, "Nope...no one staying in there, let them stay closed [to prevent sun damage]..." Tee hee...
They close them every evening because that is when the heating is on and the curtains act as a form of insulation on the old windows to help keep the heat in. They open them every day because the sunlight adds warmth to the rooms during the day to help keep away damp and it also purifies the air to a small extent for things like dust mites and stuff.
No, you're not alone in the curtain closing club! We do the same thing unless they're in rooms that are uninhabited. There are more pressing needs most of the time. I know it's wild, but Mom's a Scot and Dad's a Brit! I come by it naturally! 🤣

Thank you so much for sharing the more private (and beautiful) parts of your amazing home. I am fascinated by how so many families live in these amazing homes and open them to the public to keep them going. Netflix had a British show, Weekend Aristocrats (no longer available in the States...darn it) which showed several families who live in such homes. It was so fun to see the private rooms and how they live while opening the homes to others. Have you ever considered hosting other types of retreats? Family reunions? I think I have some cousins who could be talked into such a retreat once Covid is under control!!!!
We do the same thing Julie! We open all of the blinds and curtains during the day to allow natural light to come in and then, close everything once it gets dark. I love your house! I would love to do a yoga retreat one day there!!! I may never leave! 😊 Quite lovely!
Doesn't if affect the heat coming out of the radiator to close them off around it? Btw just started watching a couple weeks ago and I am so enjoying it!

And finally you showed me what these various rooms look like I got to see some of the inside of the towers that you can see from the outside of the house but they look like they would be super interesting rooms inside the house and I got to see at least one of those areas. Very satisfying to my curiosity thank you!

20 minutes to close / 20 minutes to open curtains daily while walking through the Manor House + checking/locking doors... an efficient way to ensure daily exercise. Not that Julie needs it, it still....
Thank you for an interesting episode. The beams and sloped roof ceilings make the upper bedrooms such fun. Why do you close the curtains every night? Are you sure someone is not pulling your leg? Or is it to keep heat in? If it is, then why are some radiators behind the curtains. I just leave the curtains closed in unused rooms until guests come. It is a fascinating house, thank you for sharing.
I was thinking the same, especially as many of the curtains look like they wouldn't contain much heat. My house is 4500 sq ft house, so a tiny dolls house in comparison to this gorgeous stately home and weekends when kids are away I don't bother closing curtains.. Nor do I close curtains in bathrooms.
