Then when the "torch" gets shorter, just place the rest of the paper on the fire and there should be enough heat generated by the fire at that point to prevent smoke coming out the front of the fireplace. I would love to visit Mapperton one day but I feel it is not in the cards for me. The reason is that 1) I just turned 81 years old and 2) I have a big-time chronic illness (panhypopituitarism) wherein I now live with my daughter and her husband who help me navigate life with lots of symptoms and 3) I help my helpers who both have health issues (son-in-law has cancer and daughter just had her gallbladder extracted and is a breast cancer survivor). Ergo, I travel rarely but did get to visit England 40 years ago after I completed my MBA. What a great trip! That visit was to celebrate the fact that my grandparents were British from Bedfordshire. I very much enjoy your show and I envy you being able to experience England every single day of your lives! I know you must realize how lucky you are! All the best from me, Kathryn Featherston, and my Corgi mix Suki. 🐶❤
We are Mapperton extended family. Love sent from across the pond to all who care about this beautiful historical estate. I also am up in age ( 73 years old ) So I doubt if I would be able to visit...but, my heart is always there in England and with you.
Well, £7,450 per person, for the tour might not be for every one (the main youtube user)... But I deeply respect the love and energy you put into this big old house. Thank you for keeping it alive.
I have lived in Dorset for 45 years and Mapperton is my most favourite place to visit. The house and especially the garden have the most beautiful atmosphere and I wish you continued success with everything you have planned xxx Athelhampton is fantastic- especially when the 'Tudors' are there xxx
I love that you're opening up stays at Mapperton for all and sharing the love with a collaboration with your neighbors! Your yoga retreats opened a whole new world!
Life always eventually leads us down the path we were meant to follow. Mapperton is definitely on my bucket list. Your new project looks very exciting!! I have to say, Nestor looks so much like Julie, with Luke's amazing hair! The best of both his parents. All the best on your new endeavors.
I'm sorry to hear about the yoga retreats, but wish you the best with your new tours. And knowing the beavers are doing well is SUCH a treat! Thanks for posting this. Also - I'm sure Luke knows this already - but pre-warming the flue of your fireplace will go a long way to improving the draw, especially in those fireplaces located on the ground or first floors, which have especially tall chimneys. When I was little, my parents built a new house, and whoever built the flue didn't know much about what makes for good upward air flow. Every time we built a fire we had to stuff several bunched up newspapers up the flue and light them on fire. They would burn up in a minute or two - this pre-heated the flue, got the air moving upward and then the fire itself would draw well on its own. You're right, there's nothing like a good fire and a cup of tea on a cold winter's day.
What Luke and Julie have shown us on their wonderful channels, is that these great homes must evolve to survive. Especially now. Good luck on this new adventure and any future ones!
Sometimes people amaze me and, not in a “good way”. This TH-cam Channel is exactly what it is described to be. If you love following Julie & Luke on Mapperton or Julie on American Viscountess you know that they are not purposely going to do something that’s going to mislead anyone. Everyone is free to subscribe or unsubscribe on any Channel on TH-cam. But, these two channels are seriously the most honest I’ve watched ever. Love you Julie and Luke ♥️♥️♥️ and thank you for everything
Well this title, image and beginning was not very honest. It misleads to guess a farewell to the estate. When is just stopping with retreats... Clickbait
I agree. A pleasure to watch their channel and feeds my homesick soul for the English countryside, history and historical estates and all the surrounding fare to see, do and experience. An American who lived in London for many years with her British husband and fell in love with the English countryside. Since COVID I have not been back.
Congratulations on your new adventure in 2023! What a lovely time to give others the wonderful opportunity to stay at Mapperton and feel the heart of your glorious estate. ❤ Sounds lovely, I wish you all the best and enjoy all the new people you will meet!
Saw on TH-cam a beaver in foster home care. Amazing as the beaver creates a dam in the hallway with stuff animals, plants found in the home. Family fosters and prepares the for its return to life in nature. Seeing the beaver on the Mapperton Estate is wonderful and glad you shared this beauty.
This new endeavor sounds like so much fun. I love the history of old estates and it all sounds so incredible. Side note: tell the Earl and Countess we all love to see them and hope to see them on the channel again soon.
Julie, It's good you were able to evaluate what works for you and how to focus your efforts. I'm sure whatever you and Luke decide to focus on will turn out well! Happy New Year!🥳
😁😁😁😁😁😁 This is a really good move for Mapperton. I am so glad you are doing this. I unfortunately, may not be able to, but I am soooo happy other people will have the chance to actually feel the very history in your home. May our Heavenly Father bless you many times over for doing such a wonderful thing for all you do.
Hugs and good feels for your new projects! There are so many, and until people actually sit down and watch your Mapperton videos, I don't think most people really have an idea about whats involved, everyday, with the running, preservation, restoration, and the expenses of keeping up these centuries old historic homes (okay, especially if your from the U.S.)! Cheers to you and Luke for taking it on, sharing it with the utuber's, and prayers for a successful new year!
Dear Julie, I am sorry that you are sad. The amount of work you accomplish -in so many areas, andwith multiple projects is overwhelming, and one cannot do everything! I would love to go on a tour with you and Luke and listen to the Earl and Countess of Sandwich - when I win the lottery. Meanwhile i love watching your videos and living at Mapperton virtually. Thank you!
I was enjoying this up to the moment that the suggestion was made to go and dip in the cold outdoor pool early in the morning. The concept frightens me . Love your channel. Today's title is over stressful. Some of us have a sensitive disposition. I need a cup of tea.
I was FREAKED OUT by the title! And I’m sad that you’re giving up your yoga retreats BUT this is excellent news! I wish you every success because this sound like an excellent adventure! PS I loved the segment with the beavers! Nestor did a great job! The beavers have a special place in our hearts because their arrival will always be connected to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Wow what a cool idea that grand historic tour is! I also really love that you've included local business and other houses. I love seeing small business collaborations, especially when they've put their heads together to create something interesting and unique. Kudos to you and your creativity and hard work! 💚💚💚
This is extremely exciting. How wonderful for everyone in the family to be able to be involved and "a Butler" a real Butler! Goodness, when was the last time Mapperton had a Butler? Now I have a reason to save some pennies and renew my passport. Hoping you will be able to do this for years to come. I know this will be a huge success. Make recordings of your parents doing the Garden Walks and the Library Readings these will become part of the Library Treasures for future generations. Brilliant change in plans IMO. ❣
I had a sense that this is what you were going to share, so I’m not so twisted about the video title, but I do understand what a few folks said. You guys are so cool (and I sense that things are going to take off even more) so maybe a softer title would still be amazing and garner you lots of views. The announcement about staying over is so exciting and enticing!! And the footage of the beavers is terrific 🎉🎉❤.
Oh Julie….I’m so excited for you both. The new venture is going to be superb. You and Luke know exactly what you need to do to bring in support for Mapperton. This magnificent estate has to be cared for, for many generations to come, and you’re doing an extraordinary job. Loved the beaver footage. Blessings to you all. ❤
Ahhh...so sorry you have to let go but it sounds like your new plan will be wonderful! Looking forward to hearing how it goes. We also had a bluebird fly down the chimney many years ago. We managed to scoop it up and put it outside where it's family was excitedly gathered, chirping and flying around. She stayed in the yard for years and we like to think that the bluebirds that are here now are her relations enjoying our yard as she did. Just recently discovered your channel (and the American Vicountess) and look forward to each installment. Best wishes from California and best of luck for your new, exciting venture. ♥️
What a wonderful idea. I would love to come with my husband. It would be a vacation of a lifetime if we could afford it. Maybe in the future. What would be great is meeting you both & seeing everything. I almost feel like we’re friends watching you both for years. It must be hard opening your selves up like this on here and your home too. Blessings to you both.
This is amazing! Trying to talk my husband into it. 😀. We love seeing everything you are doing to preserve your property. Welcoming people into your home is extraordinary and shows the love you have for your heritage. Keep up the amazing work!
How fun to do a grand tour!!! This is SO up my alley!!!!! Starting to save my $$ now! I’m sad about the yoga retreats but I know this is for the best for you, Julie.
We stumbled across your channel and your efforts a few months ago. Watched this while working on things for my class and felt it. I don't think as we grow older we really understand that sometimes we have to shift, reassess and let some things we hope to continue fall to the wayside. Thanks for sharing your decision to adjust and change something that you really wanted to do when you started.
I have come across you a while ago, but never the Mapperton channel. The idea of coming across the pond to visit your lovely home is very intriguing and would be most interesting historical wise. The way you all our filming I will have to say, reviles Spring Watch and the rest of the yearly Watches productions. As one whom has spent over half my adult life living overseas, it would be a great honor in visiting your home as the first great place to visit on an UK tour.
You are doing great things at Mapperton! I have no doubt that yoga will still play an important part in your life - just not in the same way. Everything in our lives evolves into the next thing that is useful or necessary in our lives. So for right now think about it in this way - you’re “holding onto something”, “letting go of something” and “taking on something” all in an effort to achieve something that is “inviting” you. Go for it …and who knows what else it will bring into your lives. All the best!
What Luke and you have done there with the whole place is beyond amazing, it's great, so good!!! All will be well, the best of everything for both of you and your family.
I love both of your channels. Your devotion to history and keeping it alive is what has kept me coming back every week. You and Luke have shown the world that aristocrats are not those stuffy people you see on TV, but just like the rest of us. I may have to start begging my husband for this trip. May God continue to bless your family.
Happy 2023! When a door closes another door opens. I’m typing this as you are saying same thing!! I live in USA, Alabama on a lake and love watching your journey of this gorgeous home!! It’s on my bucket list and can’t wait to hear details. Hugs and love. New adventures ahead.
Congratulations Julie and Luke on your new chapter in life. I can't wait to see the hunter's cottage finished, and you dissertation I love the live history lessons learning about Alberta and your husband's family which is now your family. This is going to be very exciting. Good luck. Love from N.Y.
You are the lucky ones. Have you already had the opportunity to learn the history of manors and palaces since 1945 in Poland? Do you have contact with noble families from Poland? From our Polish perspective, you are happy people who can be in your family home, have family heirlooms in your hands, be able to celebrate Christmas in your home where generations of the family have celebrated. Take care. Have a successful year. Joy. Best for You.
I cherish the long distance friendship you have offered us with TH-cam. Wherever you do, I will follow you. I look forward to seeing your new project grow! It would be a dream to be able to visit you there and meet you and see Mapperton. But, I will/would support you in any way I can to keep that beautiful historical home in your hands.
5:16 I didn’t take a breath for five minutes. I was so very afraid you were saying goodbye to the TH-cam community. 🥺 sorry to hear about losing a beautiful art form / health essential, but I am so hapy right now that we still get to share such a beautiful part of your life - Mapperton.
How exciting! What a great way for you both to share your passion of keeping this historic house going! I'm sure this will be immensely popular! (And this is now definitely something on my bucket list!!!)
I do not know how you get everything done with four kids in an estate. That’s a lot to handle for anybody. I know you’re sad but don’t feel bad, things change and that’s a good thing. When you get older and retire like I am you can go back to it. Just think of it that way!
I feel your sadness. However, your channel is amazing, the history videos are fascinating, your little Italian villa is an ongoing project, one which we love watching. The future is bright. Yoga will remain a part of your life...once it's in, it never leaves our lives. The Grand historic tours sound amazing!! What a great idea. The beaver footage was an added bonus!Hugs and love from Canada🇨🇦
The historic tour sounds absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful way to experience Mapperton & explore two more historic homes and this area of Dorset. I wish you monumental success in your new venture!
What great and exciting news. I could 'read' you immediately as you revealed your news - your voices were filled with relief and excitement. I'm so happy for the lucky 12 guests, whomever they shall be. It will be a vacation of a lifetime with so many opportunities including time spent with Luke, Julie and the Lord and Lady of Sandwich which we know will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations, Luke and Julie
How wonderful! Congratulations and all the best to your exciting new chapter! I hope someday to come and visit! Warmest wishes from Beautiful British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦
Aww well done Julie that couldn't have been an easy decision to make given yoga is such a love of yours personally. Wishing you all the best with your new adventures at Mapperton. Thank you to you and Luke for keeping it safe for this and future generations to enjoy.
I've, sadly, never been on your yoga retreats, Julie, but I am looking forward to more of your videos. They've kept me going and happy during this whole Covid pandemic! Keep going! 💕
Love how you adopted the floating island method to clean your amazing swimming pool. When lighting a fire, there is a much cleaner method with far more heat and less smoke. You place the large logs very tightly packed at the bottom. Then you add smaller pieces. Then you make a twig, paper, dried orange peel (natural fire starters) pinecone pile on the very top. You light the top of the pile, not the bottom as you showed. This way the fire burns downwards and burns its own smoke giving much more heat per log and far less contamination. You have set up your house so yoga retreats are possible. In the future, when other projects are more stable, you have the option to resume them if you wish. I'm sure they were a tremendous success because your beautiful personality made people want to be with you. I'm sure a crowd will join you in any project if you have the energy and desire to let people into your lives. Perhaps you could get them into tree planting so that their actions are highly significant for future generations. I'm now up to hearing your new projects... They sound marvelous. Coming from Mexico seems a bit far, but you never know...
What a wonderful idea and fantastic way to make use of not only the manor house, but also local attractions! So very pleased for you and know that yoga retreats will somehow find their way back in to the picture. Best wishes for this new venture and the new year!
I know you will have so many who can afford to experience Mapperton. Sadly at $20,000 a couple I regret I won’t be able to afford it but will look forward to a future day visit. Congrats and good luck on your new venture!
Thank you so much for helping the transition of this news! You both are beautiful and thank you so much for the gentleness here. Much love for you both and these hard choices and Happy New Year!

Well done Julie and Luke for your wonderful endeavours for keeping Mapperton whole and able to continue centuries of history open to all. I do wish you both a huge amount of success and how wonderful that Luke's Parents are also able to extend so much of their knowledge, with their involvement. You all shine in my book and I hope to do the tour myself at some stage. Good Luck to all the family. Toni x
As some one who love yoga, I am of course sad for you Julie... because I know that you loved your retreats buttttt! I am thoroughly excited that you have come up with your new project especially because it includes your father and mother in law in very active participation!! You two are SO clever! I am so glad that you-all have your finger on the pulse and are able to grow and move in the most profitable direction. Keep it up because it is about keeping creative and profitable! Best to all of you!
I can't afford £7,450 for any tour, but it is 6 days of relatively private/luxury accommodation and tours. Its something that you would reserve for a very special occasion like an anniversary. It would be a one of a kind and unique experience. Maybe one day!
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to make the decision to change. You have so much going on that you have to do what is best for you. While sad to end one project , the new one sounds incredible. Who knows, you may revisit the yoga retreats down the road . Best of luck with the new project
I too thought perhaps you were giving up Mapperton, but should have guessed with so many descriptions, they are put there to shock and draw our attention, I’m glad this was a good shock and it’s not what we feared. I watch all your videos and get great pleasure from them. I used to visit through the National Trust. Lots of houses that you visit yourself, but rarely now, i’m sure I learn a lot more watching and listening to your delightful broadcasts than I ever would reading a guidebook! Thanks so much!
I hope y’all are recording Luke’s parent’s memories of their life and of the queen. They do not need to be published right away, but don’t let that information go with them. I don’t know who will be the heir after Luke, but they will certainly benefit from all of y’all’s work.
Dear Julie and Luke, I affirm your transparency regarding your projects, yourselves and even your processes. I love your TH-cam videos and been following you for ever ❤️🇿🇦

The pricing is insane. I've traveled to Europe on three occasions and enjoyed far better destinations for FAR LESS $$$.
That’s per person with 1500 penalty if your single. Equal s 10 k for 5 days . Not even a full week.
Julie, I think you're doing the right thing. You mustn't take on too much, you'll exhaust yourself ❤️
Yes! Thank you!
You are a true inspiration for us all. I'm so glad you guys do what you do. Keep history alive is very important, and we can all do our part
I have lived in Dorset for 45 years and Mapperton is my most favourite place to visit. The house and especially the garden have the most beautiful atmosphere and I wish you continued success with everything you have planned xxx Athelhampton is fantastic- especially when the 'Tudors' are there xxx
🥰🥰
I love that you're opening up stays at Mapperton for all and sharing the love with a collaboration with your neighbors! Your yoga retreats opened a whole new world!
Life always eventually leads us down the path we were meant to follow. Mapperton is definitely on my bucket list. Your new project looks very exciting!! I have to say, Nestor looks so much like Julie, with Luke's amazing hair! The best of both his parents. All the best on your new endeavors.
Yes! Thank you!
The Grand Historic Tours are a wonderful thing, not only staying in such a magnicent home but hearing so much of the history from the family.
How sad and exciting. You both do what is right for you, and those that support you will be on board. Wishing you both the best.
Thank you so much!
Mapperton’s new Preacher clap clap clap
@@ruthnoronha8206 - Thank you 🤣😬
Hate melodramatic TH-cam click bate
Well this title, image and beginning was not very honest. It misleads to guess a farewell to the estate. When is just stopping with retreats... Clickbait
I agree. A pleasure to watch their channel and feeds my homesick soul for the English countryside, history and historical estates and all the surrounding fare to see, do and experience. An American who lived in London for many years with her British husband and fell in love with the English countryside. Since COVID I have not been back.
That sounds like a wonderful adventure!! Bucket list updated!! 😎
Will do!
Keeping it real for the wealthy.😂
Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
Very naughty title 😂
Clickbait people...
Also , it's nice to see Nestor again.... He's getting SOOOO Big! Sending you and your family a Wonderful 2023 Blessings from Pasadena , CA, USA
Thanks so much!!
All the best to L&J as this new door opens. Safe travels to all who book for the Fall, and may all go smoothly. Cheers 🥂
THANK God. I was afraid you were having to say goodbye to making videos!
Congratulations 🎉 I’m definitely going to check this out. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 visiting you will be in my future. ❤🇨🇦🍀
I've never seen anyone as busy as a 🐝 as YOU Julie!😊 What a GREAT idea!
Much love from Wisconsin to the Viscountess. Blessings on all her wonderful endeavors.
Congratulations on this new way of making the most of Mapperton. Nice to know that Minton and Lyme Regis are also on the program.
The historic tour sounds absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful way to experience Mapperton & explore two more historic homes and this area of Dorset. I wish you monumental success in your new venture!
You and Luke have accomplished so so much!!!! BRILLIANT!!! Also it is good to see Nestor taking an interest in the beaver project!!!! WELL DONE!
⁰
What great and exciting news. I could 'read' you immediately as you revealed your news - your voices were filled with relief and excitement. I'm so happy for the lucky 12 guests, whomever they shall be. It will be a vacation of a lifetime with so many opportunities including time spent with Luke, Julie and the Lord and Lady of Sandwich which we know will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations, Luke and Julie
I feel you, having recently “downsized” (or right-sized?) my commitments. I wonder if, like me, you feel a mixture of sad, guilt, and relief. ❤
Ohhh your Historic Tour sounds like the trip of a lifetime!
How wonderful! Congratulations and all the best to your exciting new chapter! I hope someday to come and visit! Warmest wishes from Beautiful British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much!
Congratulations and gracias for opening the doors of your beautiful home.
Congrats and best wishes on these new endeavors! I’m excited to hear how well you enjoy your next chapter! Please keep us posted here!🍾💐
Aww well done Julie that couldn't have been an easy decision to make given yoga is such a love of yours personally.
Thank you so much!
Sounds amazing!!! Your pattern of one door closing and another door opening is perfect! Sometimes, we are in a project for a season but not forever...perfect transition! Wishing you all the best of luck and I feel it will be an amazing success! Cheers!
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how one builds an EMPIRE! Great job!
Yes! Thank you!
What an exciting and wonderful venture these tours are going to be. I'm so excited for you all. It sounds absolutely magnificent.
Oh, excellent! Julie, I am sorry that you are having to give up your retreats. I know how important they have been for you. What you are replacing it with though is just so wonderful! It would be so special to spend time with you and your family, especially Luke's parents. I just wish I could afford the cost of travelling from Colorado. I wish you all the best in your new endeavor!
Thank you so much!
It's very important to prioritise and give yourself a break. I always said when watching you, "I hope her battery is always charged, she needs it" so happy you're looking after yourself. You and Luke are just gems to watch. Many, many hugs to both of you xxx
Aww, I just love your news. I am so happy for your family, but sad for Julies retreats. However I wish you great success on this New Adventure!
I just told my husband the next time we go to England we’re coming to visit you. I think this new venture of yours is fantastic. The historic tour is a wonderful concept.
What an INCREDIBLE grand tour! Will definitely try to make it down there from Scotland. Well done to all the family! 🥰👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Think of it as just a hiatus. See what the future brings. Love the work and the channel!
Love all the devotion to your heritage and your family.watching your journey is so inspirational. The incredible way Mapperton is being restored and cared for.Julie you are a fantastic human being and my family loves watching you caring for so much!God bless
Excited about people visiting Mapperton!Being American with English heritage we admire the dedication you are putting into yours and are inspired while watching your journey! With our prayers and love from California USA
Thank you so much!
I can't afford £7,450 for any tour, but it is 6 days of relatively private/luxury accommodation and tours. Its something that you would reserve for a very special occasion like an anniversary. It would be a one of a kind and unique experience. Maybe one day!
Good for you ! Julie you’ve worked so hard with your husband to accomplish all you have…..well done ! Good luck in your new ventures ? 💕
Thank you so much!
BRAVA!!! I wondered every time I watched a video how in the world you held up to such a workload! Congratulations on the new things!
Did i Just Hear a new garden tour from the countess? Cant wait ..i Hope She and the earl are well. Your son is adorable!
good for you guys!! I hope this new venture proves to be a winning one!!
Dear Julie and Luke, I affirm your transparency regarding your projects, yourselves and even your processes. I love your TH-cam videos and been following you for ever ❤️🇿🇦
What you are accomplishing is so amazing. May you find comfort in all that you do in spite of saying goodbye to the retreats.
Sounds exciting! All the best to your new endeavor. One day I hopefully will visit Mapperton.
Love your videos. Best wishes on your new adventures. My dream my whole life is to visit the UK. My husbands family emigrated to America in 1634 from Kirkbymoorside. This is on my wish list for sure.❤
What a DREAM to stay at Mapperton!!! Sounds fabulous!
Don’t beat yourself up, you can take it up at another time! Sounds like you both have loads to do! Time to take some time for yourselves…
