I thought both of you were younger. Never would have guessed that you were married 20 years with 4 children. And you've managed to keep your sense of humor. Wonderful!
I think the eldest two are from a previous relationship of Julie's. She was a single mom and I can imagine she had huge energy to both work and have 2 kids.
Luke's callout to Julie was so sweet. Interesting how Alberta brought an infusion of money when it was needed and Julie brought an infusion of ideas and energy. A house like this is an enormous responsibility - so easy for it to become a burden - and you two seem the perfect team to meet its unrelenting demands in a fast changing world. Lucky Mapperton!
Luke, what a thoughtful husband you are! @24:57, you pause the whole thing to give credit to your lovely wife. Well done, you... setting an example to all husbands.
I never comment, but I would like to acknowledge what a lovely couple you are and how beautifully you are managing the Herculean task of running a historic estate with a modern family.
I absolutely love Mapperton, but especially you two; that you both are in charge of it. You are a delightful couple, and completely natural, and honest. There are people who try to be funny, but you two are just NATURALLY funny. Also, very informative in an equally natural, relatable way. And of course the same can be said about Luke's parent's, who are treasures as well. Luke, yes I can imagine how you must've felt contemplating taking on Mapperton and it's many challenges; however, you struck gold with marrying Julie. The ideal partner for you personally, as well as being your co-partner in all things Mapperton. Lots of love to you both. Thanks for your wonderful Mapperton channels. Yes, it's ALL so very exciting❤😊
Greatly appreciate that he stopped the ending to thank Julie. What attracted my spouse and I to the Smithsonian show was that Julie married in and went all in, doing anything to support the history of her new family. And much more I could say but mostly. Just a beautiful couple, lovely history. Thank you for continuing to share. ❤️
Americans watch Downton Abbey, and all sorts of beautiful Period Dramas and imagine life as it was - even though many of us know how WWI and WWII changed everything from the way The Aristocracy lived to where they lived. But, as an Anglophile, I would love to see as many historic homes, churches and Abbey’s restored as possible! Love 💗 you guys!
Most UK churches are maintained. Mapperton church is unusual because it does not have a village or town to help sustain it. The Church of England has 16000 churches and 44 cathedrals, many of which are very old and very large. The church in my town was built around 1486. And the church in the next town has an amazing set of medieval glass which dates from 1500 to 1517. Mapperton has some medieval glass too. It is quite mind boggling to think of 500 year old glass.
Love this! I'm not even sure what Virtual Reality is, but sign me up for a headset if I can "walk" around Mapperton! Can you make it a murder-mystery type of interactive game? Like Clue? "The Viscountess Did It! with a Pressure-washer, in the Drawing Room!"
So impressed with both of you. Luke for accepting his family responsibility and Julie for joining him. Was this expectation something explained to you Julie, when you got serious about Luke? How are your children feeling about the responsibility being passed onto to them one day?
And as you were a young man and knew you had this responsibility coming, how did that affect who you dated? Was it in the back of your mind that whomever you married had to be up to the future challenge of running the estate?
I think Meta-Mapperton is actually a really interesting idea. With the technology right now, it would be limited to "walking" all over the estate, but as the technology develops and becomes more tactically immersive, you could include things like virtual weddings, were people get married virtually. This would be especially welcome for people who have family and friends all over the world--they could all attend, even great-granddad who lives in that small town in the mountains, and could never have attended otherwise. :) VERY neat Luke!
Second comment: the rewilding project is extremely exciting, and something that has been dear to my heart here in the US since the late 1990s, when I launched a national magazine called Wild Garden, which helped people understand how to repopulate and re-landscape their properties with native plants that support wildlife. Kudos to you for this project, and I hope other manor houses in the UK will follow suit!
When I was growing up, my aunt was a good friend of an Earl. Tragically his eldest son died fairly young and because of primogeniture the estate was lined up to pass to the grandson. My aunt's friend passed a few years ago and I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for this young man who had the running of the estate put onto his shoulders at such a young age. He didn't get a chance to enjoy that part of life where he could just be himself before taking on the running of the house. Of course he's lucky to have grown up in a privileged position, but there are significant down sides in that he couldn't just go have a career of his own, the estate is like a boat anchor on him that way
YES, rewilding ! Gorgeous ! Absolutely the way to go and get that nature and wildlife back and have people participate in it and enjoy it. This is so inspiring and important. Love it.
There IS a sort of poignant undercurrent that the house isn't "lived in the same way it was lived in before." But, glad it's still alive. Thank you for your work!
You both lift people's spirits. Thank you for opening up your lives on you tube. Congratulations for keeping your estate going and surviving for your next generation.
My husband's family has 2 ancestral estates that are each hundreds of years old (a summer and a winter one with dozens of acres of land) and we're seeing his parents retire early to gear up to take over running them from his grandfather. The amount of effort that goes into maintenance is absolutely bonkers, as you say. It is definitely not all sunshine and rainbows, although it is such a privilege to have so much family history laid out before us and preserved so well over several generations. It's insanely expensive though, all of the family trust (and much of their savings) goes toward upkeep and it's exhausting but worth it. Many people we know have had to sell and we are doing everything in our power to ensure this doesn't happen and that our children will continue to enjoy their heritage in future generations.
Thank you for sharing your interviews and stories about your lovely home and it’s history. For this American who loves all things British it has been such a joy watching ya’ll.
I think you are both brilliant and complement each other so well. You’ve navigated a daunting reality that is Mapperton with grace, humor and creativity. And I find your marriage refreshing. Two people who have a full and loving life together..and interesting, stimulating and fulfilling lives separately. Cheers to both of you ❤️
How nice of Luke to acknowledge Julie's impact. What a great combo of skills, talents and passions. Best wishes for even more plans to succeed and dreams to come to life. Joy to you and yours.
Julie the same reason your husband fell in love with you we fell in love with you. My husband asks me "is that the American viscountess again"? He hears me laughing. Julie you get me excited about your flea market funds just through your excitement. Love it. Thanks!
I visited Mapperton House on 02.06.2024, as my 277th historic house in UK. Was a wonderful visit! What a pity the guidebook was out of stock. I have one of every single house visited! I guess I need to come back and visit it again! 🙂
I just love watching the banter you two have. I have told my husband that if we are fortunate enough to visit the UK we will be visiting your estate. Hopefully we will be lucky and run into the pair of you. 😊
I think Downton Abbey success put a new slant on aristrcratic homes and management. Every estate owner would hope for a Julian Fellowes to drop a filming contract on their front stoop. The work you two are doing in the PR end is brilliant. You are keeping the dream alive.
I am a resent newcomer (from Denmark) to this channel and I must say that - except this is a very interesting vlog in it self - I find the two of you extremely charming together ❤ Looking forward seeing and learning more of you and the many beautiful old stately manor houses that I hope to see in real life for myself one day ☺
It is so nice for Luke to give credit to Julie for the wonderful job she has done to make this channel so popular--I don’t think it would have been so successful without her great enthusiasm and her happy disposition. You both together are a fabulous team. I love watching your videos and I wish you all the best.
I subscribed, of course. I am a Dutch woman and love our European Heritage/history. 👍😍🤩❤It needs to be preserved. As I said I am Dutch, and we have our own wonderful Kingdom, "the Royal Kingdom of The Netherlands"' . You are doing a wonderful job you are doing Julie. This is one of the video clips I will follow till it is over. Getting your drive will be for years to come hopefully. Your videos are entertaining, educating, informative and so so much more. Love you and your courage and determination to go forward and take us, your dedicated followers, along the ride. Thank you so much. 🙏
You both make me laugh and remind me of my husband and myself. Love the history and reminding each of us that no matter our home size we are all the same.
I love Luke’s idea of connecting with nature. That is exactly what I imagine a county house life to be! Honestly who could imagine any better country lodging!
That's a piece that previously might have been overlooked (amid 20th century promos of tours/cafe etc.) and I'm delighted to hear Luke and the historian of Mapperton wanting to give exposure to nature such prominence in the estate's future. I'm most definitely following the rewilding process. (We're doing a small bit of it on our suburban lot.) Here's hoping this concept stays on trend as long as the manor house tours have done.
I love watching your videos. As an American, I find your country and family history fascinating. The two of you are so incredibly real… I hope to meet you both someday. Mapperton is officially on my Bucket List
I love to watch how you get so enthusiastic about the home & its contents which would be so much fun to me also! Your place in Italy you redid was a treat to watch. Thank you for sharing your home & allowing us to be able to see behind the walls of many Estates. Thank You.
Although I can't afford to be on Patrion for you,I do enjoy your channels. By the channels now being on TH-cam. Just think of how many people in many countries might come in person to visit the U.K. whereas they wouldn't have thought to go for vacation/holiday.
Love this channel so much!! I enjoy every episode. It's so fascinating. I live in America where our heritage is not as "old" as Mapperton. Thanks so much for sharing all the things with us!
I contribute on a monthly basis. I’m blessed to play a small part on keeping Mapperton alive. Appreciate the whole family and the videos they create. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 From Winnipeg Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
You two are the best thing that happened to Mapperton, putting this historical home on the global radar and map through social media. Your different backgrounds blend so well to Mapperton's promotion, evolution, and improvement for all to enjoy. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us online.
Lol, you guys crack me up. It’s clear your married with the back & forth, love it! I just stumbled across your vlogs when TH-cam recommended it, I’ve been hooked ever since. By doing these vlogs your making yourselves & the estate relatable, a huge thumbs up. Cheers from across the pond in California, Kirk
Are you looking forward to passing Mapperton on to your children or do you worry about giving them that same sense of daunting eventual redirection of whatever they had in mind for their lives. OR do any of them stand out as eagerly looking forward to carrying on with their own visions? You both are doing a fabulous job of it and I can't help thinking how your "prior lives" and interests were better preparation for Mapperton than you might have imagined.
So glad we got another video of the two of you. Julie is super high energy, yes, but you can’t downplay the joy of Luke and his energy. Love seeing you guys making. Ideas and spending time together!
Congratulations on making such a success on TH-cam. If it weren't for the pandemic and TH-cam, we would not have known anything about Mapperton. Because of that, while my family is visiting the Uk in June, we are eager to come to Mapperton and hopefully meet you guys. We will be there on the 9th of June all the way from Australia 🇦🇺. Hope very much to meet you guys in person. Cheers from Aus, and keep up the great work.
Watching you both brings me up to speed on life where you are far better than reading the general news. I enjoy TH-cam for just this reason. You've got fantastic stories and I love what you are doing in your home. Being a fellow American with less history than what you have in your family it's just why I travel, to learn about other places and learn about history, but get personal stories. This channel fulfills that interest. :) Thank you for sharing. Great questions! :)
Love this interaction of July and Luke, it will be nice to know how was for Luke growing up and meeting other people with historical manor, houses. Both are doing a geeat job.
This was such a calming and uplifting episode. I'm glad to read that all your hard work is paying off! A nice change In presentation style, too, with less talking over each other. As a nice midwesterner, a lot of talking over each other triggers anxiety in me. But that's just me 🙂
That was good. Reminds me of how most people's lives will always have constant challenges with temporary moments of rest and relief, and how we have to find fulfillment in the midst of challenges. I was very surprised Julie is a yoga instructor, I think most people would have imagined a much calmer type of person, not that you should be, but another reminder of not to prejudge a book. People's lives have fascinating experiences when you dig deep. Best wishes.
Roflol! I knew as soon as Julie said in the beginning that she was going to reel Luke back in, that it would be funny lol. 😁 I have to say, I was one of those in the beginning that just loved the tours and historical information that Luke's parents provided.
Well, I don't care how you do it but keeping Mapperton alive is important. It tickles me that Julie is an American (as I am) and through her and Luke I get to experience this unique connection to Great Britain.
New viewer, I'm in awe of the grand scale of the homes their beautiful interiors, and history of the different estates, family and social life how it came to be. Thanks for sharing
In my efforts to binge watch, this is certainly a heart-warming episode of the trials and tribulations of the daunting undertaking of Mapperton. Though there were impressive aristocratic era's lived in this amazing historical estate, what you two are doing to revive, repair, and share it's history and make it self-sufficient is nothing less than miraculous. Together, you are a natural dynamic duo, and it clearly takes a great deal physical, spiritual, mental, and toll, with the weight on your shoulders. We are so thankful for your strength, consistency, and creativity! Thank you, Luke & Julie, for all that you do and all that you are.
So grateful to you both for letting us peek into your home and lives! Living in a historic manor house is my idea of a fantastic way to spend your time; raising your family, restoring the house and grounds, and especially the rewilding projects! Wow, just WOW! Sharing that literally with the entire world is almost beyond comprehension. But thank you SOOO much! The room with that fireplace, the paneling, those floors, that rug! I am swooning here! What can you tell us about that paneling? It looks like it is Tudor era, yes? The fireplace mantel? The significance of the ornamentation? How does one care for that wood paneling? My eyes are telling me that it needs 'wood food', or oiling... can that be done? The flooring... oak? SO many questions! Maybe you should have an internship program with volunteers to learn how and actually DO some of the work! I'd volunteer in a heartbeat, except for my 16+ year old cats who cannot be left even overnight! Eagerly awaiting your next posting on rewilding progress, now that spring is upon us. When do your gardens bloom for optimal viewing? How is the pool sealing coming along? How are your children preparing for their future at Mapperton? OK, I'll stop now!
This has quickly become one of my top channels. I look forward to see what you all are up to. And, one day I would like to be walking the grounds of Mapperton as a guest, taking in all of the beauty. But first I have to overcome my fear of flying.
What a beautiful picture, the two of you in front of the 🔥 I enjoy your videos a lot! They have an honesty and sincerity it's not easy to share with unknown people. It makes me feel you share your truth with me
Luke and Julie: Just delightful as always. Julie, I remember following you when you had, I think 3000 followers. I always looked forward to your channel. Your smile, your energy and your positive outlook on life got me through many challenges during this horrible pandemic. I love your yoga sessions and I love your cooking sessions. Of course, your tours of the estate was amazing! I remember your episode about the doves. I joked and said, "Do you want some Canadians pigeons because they are "pooping" all over in the barn," and I didn't like that for the horses. You responded, about taking the pigeons. I loved it, thank-you for your kindness and joy. The pandemic has delayed dreams, but it will never destroy dreams. We will rise above. One day I will visit you at Mapperton. God Bless. ❤❤❤
I rarely have heard a conversation about the responsibilities that come with growing up in a respected family, I learned so much and it really has given me a new perspective on a personal theme that I have been reflecting about. Thank you.
You’re lovely. In truth both of you. You’re so down to Earth, authentic, real that we feel like we know you. I’m Brazilian-American, living in a small Asheville, North Carolina. But in truth, from Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. Imagine how you traveled. Because in a way you’re part of our life even if we’re not part of yours. Thank you, and lots of luck. I know you feel overwhelmed sometimes, but the challenge is part of life, of a meaningful life, of your legacy and your children’s inheritance. I don’t mean just the ones that are going to inherit it officially. I mean all of you, how that is already part of your lives. About being American, you’re a great addition to the family. 😊
So interesting. I like how he said he looked at his life in two parts. I will be inheriting family land and take over persevering a family trust fund. While it will be on a smaller/ different scale I do get so many ideas on how to handle the enormous weight/ pressure of preserving the opportunities that have been preserved for me. I also like what a lady said that you interviewed that said she views it as the 100 yr plan. Hope I can do a decent job and make my family as proud as I know you have made your family.
Sorry for all the posts but TH-cam keeps cutting off my posts. Thank you for sharing your life, thank you for sharing the lives of other homeowners that are going through the same journey that you are, and thank you for being so real to everyone who watches you across the entire world! I love what you are doing!!
Luke, you are so easy to listen to. Your ability to explain and tell stories is very engaging and interesting. Your nod to Julie’s important input and ingenuity is very well placed as well.
I so love your channels, I enjoy history of your country home. The re-wilding sounds very exciting too. I hope to treat myself next month with the Mapperton book lol. Here in Michigan we have Back to Nature Farms, there was one I pass on the way to the horse barn. ❤️🇺🇸
Thank you for the discussion. The flashing light on the phone (message waiting) is driving me crazy. Please listen to it. Just shows how busy you are! 🙂
Love Mapperton and you are a very special family. It has become so much harder for everyone to keep going and can imagine how difficult it would be living as you do. The larger the more responsiblity and expense that is encountered. I would love to be able to do alot for you to help, if it were possible. I live in America (NYS) and so it is different, and my husband and i live in a smaller viillage in upstate NY. We do own a home, and are senior citizens. I have such a love for the lovely larger homes and just wiish when young we had the money and thought to move to Europe to live. I love the fact you have so much history. Love your chapel as well. Just learn so much by the questions and the tours around the home. It makes me feel part of this family in some way. Thank you for continuing on and doing so much to keep shariing with all of us! So glad you found the You Tube to joiin and get involved in one other way to make some money to help keep everything going. I think you enjoy meeting us, and we certainly are so glad to get to know you! ( What a lovely futuristic idea you now have LOL) A little over my head, but think I get the jest of it? lol *we somehow show up there with you, out of no where!* lol Yes Julie does do a wonderful job, but we love you both! (Your parents as well, they do such a wonderful job when on camera) TY * wish I would be alive in 20 more years and then we could take part in the 'new ways ' of joining in!*
I thought both of you were younger. Never would have guessed that you were married 20 years with 4 children. And you've managed to keep your sense of humor. Wonderful!
“And you’ve managed to keep your sense of humor” makes it seem like they’re 80 lol
@@BMarie774 a sense of humour is valuable from the day the couple meets.

Uppermost respect for working hard to ensure British heritage survives

Lampshades askew, corner of the carpet folded over...LOVED it! Obviously a well-loved and lived in home.
I thought only I could have noticed the rug. I want to flip the corner of the rug over so badly. 😂 my home is a mess and should tend it first 😂
I particularly love the red blinking light on the phone...lol
Don’t forget the darning on Luke’s elbow!
How very honest Luke was throughout the questions.

I love Luke’s humor and fear of what you might ask. 😂
Yez we love Luca and Julie
I love your honesty and transparency! Tell us how you are gradually breaking in the next generation for 25 years from now!
Great Couple! Just LOVE Julie because she so clearly loves and appreciates British history as much as I do!
I love watching your videos. As an American, I find your country and family history fascinating. The two of you are so incredibly real… I hope to meet you both someday. Mapperton is officially on my Bucket List
Thank you so much!
Hi! I love these “extras”🤗
I love to watch how you get so enthusiastic about the home & its contents which would be so much fun to me also! Your place in Italy you redid was a treat to watch. Thank you for sharing your home & allowing us to be able to see behind the walls of many Estates. Thank You.
You two are absolutely adorable. God Bless.
You are both brave and darlings! Thank you for doing this show. I love the music behind the scenes. Good work!
Although I can't afford to be on Patrion for you,I do enjoy your channels. By the channels now being on TH-cam. Just think of how many people in many countries might come in person to visit the U.K. whereas they wouldn't have thought to go for vacation/holiday.
Luke and Julie, great talk, thank you for showing this and welcoming us into your life.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
From Winnipeg Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you!
A very honest look into the responsibilities of running Mapperton from both of your perspectives. I enjoyed the fire in the background too!
And a real fire, at that!
Love you both. I’m 83 and live in the US. ❤️
You two are the best thing that happened to Mapperton, putting this historical home on the global radar and map through social media. Your different backgrounds blend so well to Mapperton's promotion, evolution, and improvement for all to enjoy. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us online.
Excellent episode. Luke has such a nice way to answer questions that actually answers the question, him explaining lively with knowledge.
You can see his keen mind at work in the way he organizes his thoughts in such an eloquent, erudite manner.
Excellent idea on the MetaMapperton. It is the future.
Every evening I look forward to these wondeful videos. Far more interesting than most anything one finds on television or movies. I'm hooked!
I respect you guys so much. You all work so hard, and you do it for the right reasons.
Awesome, loved this. You both are amazing , talented human beings. 🌷
But that's just me 🙂
As a nice Canadian, it makes me anxious too😉🇨🇦
That was good.
I have to say, I was one of those in the beginning that just loved the tours and historical information that Luke's parents provided.
The rug is flipped up in the corner and I can’t unsee it😂🤣
Well, I don't care how you do it but keeping Mapperton alive is important.
I appreciate y’all being honest about the hardships and how it effects you.
You both compliment each other so well!
Best of luck to you and your team.
Maybe that's part of the video tour which I haven't seen yet.
This has quickly become one of my top channels. I look forward to see what you all are up to. And, one day I would like to be walking the grounds of Mapperton as a guest, taking in all of the beauty. But first I have to overcome my fear of flying.
What a beautiful picture, the two of you in front of the 🔥
I enjoy your videos a lot! They have an honesty and sincerity it's not easy to share with unknown people. It makes me feel you share your truth with me
Well done the pair of you. You have come a long way from only two years ago.
Your husband Luke has such a great personality and sense of humor 😊😊😊😊😊 Love you videos Julie😊😊
Yes she is a super star! We love her so much!
The fire looks so cozy! It's cool and rainy here on the coast of North Carolina 🏝
Jules … you are a breath of fresh air. Debbra-Lyn.. visit us in South Africa soon
Hi Tammy.❤
I think Mapperton wilding is going to be marvelous!!
A cute couple. I loved seeing recently your young and fun wedding pictures. The bride as striking then as Julie is today. Happy Summertime!!
