This is the historic home of William and Ailsa Stonor, Lord and Lady Camoys - the 29th generation of the family to live in this stunning location. The history of Stonor is bound up with the religious turmoil of the English Reformation in the sixteenth century; but the story begins at the prehistoric stone circle which stands close to the house itself.
Julie is guided through the history of Stonor by William; hearing of Williams American heritage, the challenges faced by his parents in the 1970s when the family moved back into the house. And Julie is shown one of the most historic documents connected to Stonor - dating back to 1315, with the seal of King Edward II. With a walk around the glorious gardens with Ailsa, this is an historic house visit not to be missed.

ROUND-BREAKING AI BRINGS HISTORY TO LIFE - NEW EXHIBITION UNVEILS THE UNTOLD STORY OF A GILDED AGE AMERICAN HEIRESS.
A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.

Like many families from the United States, my wife and I trace much of our heritage back to the United Kingdom. This, along with a love of history and a fascination with great families and great houses, has made me spend countless hours going down TH-cam "rabbit holes". Yours is one of my favorites. Thank you for your interest and energy in preserving and presenting such detailed and heartfelt content.

I am particularly moved by the religious history of the Stonor family. I grew up in a family with a Protestant parent and a Catholic parent, and luckily we were accepted and loved by both sides of the family who respected the faith of the other side. So we grew up in a cradle of love, moving back and forth between both families, which is now one family. I am a Protestant by faith and conviction, but when I attend Mass with my relatives I feel very much like I have come home. So I am heartened to learn that the Stonor family has survived and thrived with their faith preserved and honoured.

Thank you for this heartfelt video. It’s very unique to hear such a personal story regarding the persecution of Catholics in Britain. It’s one thing to read about it in the history books and another to hear about it here. This Baron’s family story was touching. And so precious that they hung onto their faith throughout the times. What a beautiful family home, so well preserved and his parents had such foresight to open it to the public early on to be able to keep this important piece of history in the family. No doubt, Julie, you are doing the same for your family. ❤

Oh, ouah, what a beautiful place! I mean, I saw the exterior and I was like "blah, it's bland, boring", but the history as told by the Lord of the Manor, plus the incredibly magnificent interior, so beautiful and warm, made this manor an incredible historic home.
I absolutely loved that episode and we got to see so many interior rooms instead of just one or two. I love when we get to see lots of rooms, since I will never be able to visit in person.
I always say: "I love to visit those manors and castles but I wouldn't want to live in them, too cold, old fashion looking", but this Stonor Park? The renovation was so tastefully done, making it a warm, cosy place to live while respecting the past. I wouldn't mind living there, I envy the family. Plus that sooooo long history!
Incredible place and incredible episode and congrats to the owner to share it with us.

Your videos are such a pleasure. The personal stories placed within the context of British national history makes them all the more interesting and enjoyable. The hard work your family does to preserve and share their home is admirable, and I hope appreciated by many.
Should the opportunity arise, could you please pass on that the stories about the Stonor family’s long defense of their faith is quite moving, even to this old, cranky lapsed Catholic.

Beautiful estate. The British with tradition and preservation 👏👏👏👌. 29th generation...many adults don't even know beyond 6th generation. It hurts when people with no or those who don't value and understand these traditions try to disparage and brand them as elitist .....and cause a little watering of it. I think people with these rich traditions should be super proud of it and their ancestors.

Would love to see some more family homes that aren’t as grand, I’d shakespeares/Newtons etc. - even though I loveeeee stately homes and castles haha.

Pleaseeee visit Harlaxton manor! I lived right next to it for many years, it’s got some strong female owners historically and American students live there now x

I am distantly related to the Stoner family through the Latimers and Despensers. Assuming I read the geneology correct. 😊

Viscountes I really hope you get this message. You really sound British now. You are such a badass. Where do you find the time to do all you do. Yoga and all. A woman of our age who moves the way you do. You are so healthy.
