It’s not everyday you get to take your own car to the Proving Ground. Fun day fam! Love my Dirty N!
Thanks for joining us!!
Good looking N you have there!
Was that you Mel?! From KGT fam!
@@Ethereal1Yes that’s me! I still have my Kia pro_cee’d GT too, I love that car.
Your launches were excellent! What RPM did you launch at and were you using NGS?
Ive got the i30 Sedan N. These cars are the best value for money and performance vehicles ever made. Nearly 2 years of ownership and im still as in loves as the first test drive
I hope it’s a super smooth recovery Paul! The fact you came out and did this video while still sore is amazing!
Thank you! Feeling much better now.
Have had a DCT i30n for a few months now (but the Fastback shape). Love it, so much punch and the noise is too much fun.
haha.
how often does it make the dsg fart? just wondering cause i want to get one and sorta really want the farts lol
@@ChurTrain depends on the exhaust mode and how hard you accelerate. In sport mode/N mode with the exhaust "open" it's discernible on just about every gearchange, particularly if you're driving hard. However, the exhaust is also loud so you sometimes don't hear the DSG farts as much as you might expect. The popping & crackling is pretty consistent too, and you can easily bring it on by flooring the car at say 40 km/h in 2nd gear up to 60 and then backing off the throttle. Long story short it sounds great, but you can dial it down if you want to be more subtle. It's just a genuinely fun car, as if Hyundai said "yeah we will make a few compromises on interior quality, features and so on ... but we just want the driver to have a smile on their face every time they sit behind the wheel".
@@SamFrostDigitalMarketing awesome! I've been really looking into these. As i'm a honda guy, but 70+ k for a honda to me is not justifiable. So i'm looking into hot hatches and the Hyundai i30n has grabbed my attention straight away! Can't wait to get one. Thank you, appreciate it.
@@ChurTrain I don't think you'll be disappointed. I love the Civic Type R but really wanted something with DCT/auto (my wife can't drive manual so she could never use my old Swift Sport). The Type R is perhaps a more complete package but so much more expensive. I got a good deal on my i30N by purchasing one that was about 18 months old and with ~7000km on the clock from the main dealer - was almost $25k off the new list price. If you want a bit more insight, TH-cam search for "i30N interior review" and look for the video from a channel called 'i30N Owner' - that's me. I've got a few more videos coming up soon too on other aspects of ownership.
Not gonna lie, that Hyundai sounds the best of the lot. Damn, sounds awesome 😮
How good is it?!
@@CarExpertAusamazing and the sedan is even better.
@@mharro88 But the sedan looks horrible.
@@Ghosn that's subjective. I think it looks better than the hatch , definitely drives better.
agreed! that hyundai sounds mean af! love it
i30n is 20-25k cheaper and still won and faster on the track too. Truely insane value for money. I love my DCT, though I do wish I got the manual instead, even if it's slower.
HYUNDAI NEVER DISAPPOINTS ❤️🔥
Ask a mechanic.
If you think that don’t ever track one.
lol the people hating just cos it’s a Hyundai is funny, Hyundai is ranked 4 out of 5 stars and 4th out of 32 major brands for reliability and the N cars are literally made to go on a track. The I30N had the least amount of power in this lineup and still won some all while costing the least and sounding the best, impeccable car in my books

Great vid Paul and team! Well done Mel! Thanks for doing us Hyundai N owners proud.
Man that 8 speed DCT is perfectly matched to that car, that imo is the best performance car Hyundai has ever made.
Absolutely, I purchased my i30 N last year. I live in Australia, and it is so much fun to drive over here. It sounds awesome too!
@@adrianshotbolt3820 me too mate. Bought a Sedan, but awesome daily driver as well as a track weapon.

Can’t beat the I30N for bang for buck, such a great car love mine 🩵
You can
0 Street cred . People look at you and wonder has the Hertz sticker fallen off.
haha - you 100% can beat it in every facet.
Brand snob
imo the i30 N is the the rocker, look closely in the very first launch she messed up the a lil bit but still came 2nd. Moreover everybody knows that nothing can beat the Hyundais when it comes to making the 4 cylinder engine sing.🔥
You’re delusional, keep dreaming.
With NGS she would've won every run.

And fails in the last because the fail start
I30N hyundai for me❤
Wow wow wow, go Mel in the i30n, that was a brilliant race guys❤❤❤
I truly believe the i30N's power figures have been under reported by Hyundai. Fantastic car!
El 250 cv son 270cv reales y el 280cv son 305cv reales
Yeah something seems off there anyways. Had some i30n in front of me on the Autobahn, pushing really hard on them with a 1.8t mk 4 golf with just Software (around 200hp). I also drove one myself and found it kind of sluggish
Don't you mean over reported lol
@@momanskiakabiffbuz6004 Was it the pre facelift one or facelift? The power figures between those two are WILDY different. Hyundai claims 275 for the pre FL, while in reality it only had 265, while the FL has 280 claimed, but has 305 in reality. The power band on the FL is also wider.
@@xXYannuschXx when did the fl come out? It's been a while ago, like 2020/2021 or something. It also was the fastback version
Great stuff , was the NGS button on the steering wheel of the i30n even used? Based on your original review of the i30n I brought the car a couple of years ago and still love driving it. Very special car for $58000.
See Melissa Ong's post, she talks about all that in the comments
Hi there! No NGS used but now I’m a bit curious if that may have changed the outcome! Will have to get out there and give it another go.
@@MelissaOng would launch control automaticity engage NGS?
@@pastorofmuppets8834 It does not. Keep in mind NGS gives you quicker, more solid shifts , and slightly more boost. With NGS it just keeps pulling.
@@S.Madman it's a bit silly then. Launch control should have everything on max. Having said that I've never launched my car and don't plan to, I love doing it all myself. Which is why I would have loved mine in manual, but we did require an auto 😒
The Hyundai N for a stock exhaust sounds beautiful great and downshifts pretty sweet.
EA888 engine in cupra is a beast. They are a bit boring to drive when you really push it, but for everyday use they are the best. Very fast when you need to, and very comfy when you just cruise and chill.
I agree, ea888 is awesome, the old ones could be manual, thus, more fun.
I've got the 180KW Skoda Octavia, and its struggles to put its power down. I'm very impressed with this Cupra with 40 more KW.
@@andreroodt4647 You are right. I have the same Cupra as in the vid and on second gear full throttle the torque is way too much for the front wheels only and it wheel hops alot. Once it hooks tho.. its a different story.
@@nicolasch7039look at getting dogbone inserts installed. I also have the same Leon and this helped enormously.
k20c1/c4 in Honda have more potential than eaa888. If in this test was Accord with 10AT, it could beat any of this hothatches. And if you add a little power to the accord to catch up with them in this indicator, then it will even move away from them.
I am a bit surprised that Hyundai only claims 5.9s for your country. In Germany the i30N FL with DCT claims 5.4s, which has been confirmed by many reviewers.
Although it would have made it a longer video, kind of wanted to see every driver in each car for at least one run of these tests; that way everyone got a chance to get in each car and could share their experiences at the end of the video or on their own channels (if they have one), especially with two of the 4 drivers being in their "dailies".
Not a bad idea!
That result was in the exact reverse order than I was expecting 😱
Track type r wins hands down
ofc it does. But as a daily driver efficiency and acceleration wise the cupra takes the trophy. I might be a bit baised cause I own a Cupra but that thing on Cupra mode is a beast around corners as well.@@funfunyo7523
why is that? curpa always fastest (and obviously way better car)
Everyone underestimated the i30N until they drive one! Or even better, buy one.
9:42 that downshift with the pop and bang from i30n sounds amazing ❤❤
Great video Paul and the team. I think you should guys should do manual car only drag race. I just loved the FL5 sound and so satisfying to watch the speed display. FL5 is just so beautiful 🤩
The FL5 sounds like a vacuum and was the slowest😮

Hey nice video. Did you use NGS button at i30N? If not ... 😢
No NGS used, the N would've won every run.
Wish you a fast recovery, Paul!
manuals are fun but dual clutches just shift so much quicker
N is mighty impressive!
Take compact SUVs on a light off road course ie corolla cross , mazda cx30,subaru crosstrek, Suzuki Scross
I have wondered how much puff a 3cyl motor has once the pulling against G force is called upon. The Corolla answered my question, it struggles against others BUT holy moley its still insanely quick!
Truly impressive from Hyundai to make a car of that power and still be able to beat its 4WD rivals
I don't know why that Cupra is sounding like total garbage... quad exhaust pipes and nothing.. Just put single one and not to give false expectations. Anyways - that I30 N is absolutely treasure ! Phenomenal sound and performance ! Amazing car. Great video.
i30n is amazing!
Great video Paul. Awesome to not have an SUV or Ute in sight.
It would matter if it’s a field of average drivers or professionals as long as it’s equal.
The I30n is the one to get!!! A real Bullet.
The Civic is the one you'd actually want to live with, but not for it's price
Knew the cupra would take the win before even watching the video, owned 2 of them and they are underrated beasts
Value for money ,the N shines but in reality 110Kms is the legal limit so who really cares how fast it is ,price, ease of parts ,factory warranty, safety, how comfortable the seats are infotainment etc etc will always be my priority ,just the best Aussie auto channel ,hope you feel better soon and you can wear your seatbelt a lil higher ,Hyundai is the car id buy
How fast you get to 110 is what makes it fun.
Lol reverse drag is great. Will come in handying when I'm in a shoot out with bad guys 😅
Yey, finally a race that doesn't make me fall asleep (utes).
After seeing this, i have worked up the courage to start drag racing more cars at the lights 😂
I take no liability in what you do out there. You need to take some liability as to why I ended up in this Drive N 😅
@MelissaOng If Hyundai paid me commision for each car sale i influence, I'd easily have $1 by now.
Whoever listed the stats for the i30 n, has incorrectly quoted . It's 5.4s 0-100 for the DCT, not 5.9.
I have the Veloster N DCT and it does 0-60 in 4.8 in optimal conditions.
This makes me really excited to pick up my '24 i30 Sedan N.
Whaiting for that drag race for ages thank Paul
Not surprising, new autos/dsg transmissions are faster. A test of all manual transmission cars would be more interesting.
that would be the same. Cupra, Toyota, Hyundai and finally the Honda.
Why does the Cupra slip its clutch so much at the start? That feels weird.
interesting. It says a lot about the engineering of the automatic transmission/launch control stuff. You need to be all auto or all manual to do it properly.
Hi Paul. Nice content. Was surprised that the Honda civic type r lost in all the races.
Well take both of those cars around Dandenong mountains and see which one sling shots around the corners with fast spool.
Glad that you did this, but a pity you chose the N Hatch and not the Sedan N, which is faster with the DCT. That Corolla! In each of the first 2 drag races when the driver changed out of 1st gear it was as if the brake was applied it slowed so much, after which it seemed 2nd gear bogged down and then had to recover it's head of steam, by which time it was out of the race.
Guys can you try doing a drag race between plug in hybird suvs
Volvo xc90,x5,q7,gle or simply xc90 vs ev9 or other cars above Beucase I wanna see if the performance of the xc90 is worth buying for
NO! That's boring
i30n !!!! Hyundai Ns are no jokeee! I have seen them doing 13.4 1/4 mile
Hyundai smashing cars 20k more expensive, now that was a surprise. I had my money on the Type R.
That's just a drag race. The civic is a track car. It will beat all of them at Nurburgring. My model 3 will smoke all of these in a straight line with my grandmother driving.
@@CaliSteve169 Naturally, however 99% of these cars spend there time on public roads and in traffic.
I expected more from the type R with a 20k price difference.
Adding electric cars into the equation is just silly. Apples with apples.
@@browie316 the point that I'm trying to make is that the type R is designed specifically to perform well on the tracks and it does. Racing it against these cars in a straight line is indeed apples to oranges. Such cars should be raced on the track where engineering behind them can be judged.
@@CaliSteve169The N cars have won the 24 hours of Nurburgring 3 years in row.
overall i30n had the best values
I think you should play with the GRC a bit more. That 50KPH run in 3rd gear, would have put the GRC at 3k RPM or lower. If you look at the 1/4 mile run, 2ed gear lands at about 5k RPM after the first shift at about 65 KPH. A third gear run in the GRC would be done at about 80-90 KPH. The 3 Cylinder in the GRC was made to live in the 4-7k power band. Also, launching it in 30/70 creates additional power train loses that would have improved the 0-60 and 1/4 miles time. Toyota's AWD system limits your power if you try to put too much torque to the rear wheels in low gears. 60/40 or 50/50 is recommended for launches, and disabling the rear wheels is recommended for dyno runs. 30/70 does feel pretty good though.
7:53 Loving the PDriveTV angle ❤
Please build a circuit so we can see the cornering abilities of these cars. Thanks.
type r driver seemed to miss his gear changes from the look of it
GR or N!!
75k for a civic🤔 I know they’re unreal when tuned and I’ve wished of owning one after watching Nurburgring laps. But they were 52k back then. The N is the bargain. Imo.
I have the Leon cupra virtually golf R engine and i 30 sadan N fantastic daily and good to boot. Really suck that Leon warranty does not cover track use period so no track days however i30 Sedan N does.
Need a Golf R in the mix!
Would the A45 AMG not be the king of hot hatches??
Would love to see these babies along with WRX in a track ....😍😍😍
Yes good idea. Type R should win then GR Corolla. GR will give decent results even if u not a track driver. WRX STI will be closely behind both I guess looking at Nurburgring and other track results. Maybe an older Focus RS might also be nice to join in
How come the wrx never gets an invite to these sort of comparos? Not by any TH-cam reviewer so it seems?

I30n is amazing love it every day with stage 3 tuned
Not taking anything away from the SEAT but owning an Elantra N I wonder if that i30N is octane learned🤔
Either way, that SEAT was matching up top🏁🏁
I think I've rented just about every Cupra known to man via Europcar. Great sounding car, lovely interior, let down by a rather annoyingly slow DSG in the bends and brakes that give up the ghost after some spirited driving. Recently I drove the Leon through the Adelaide hills and when we stopped all the warning lights on the dash came up. The brakes were on fire. Same thing happened when I drove the Formentor through the back blocks of Bathurst and Orange. The other annoying thing for those of us to like to do so is you cannot left-foot brake in any Cupra. The car just dies for more than a second before coming back to life. Annoying on what is supposed to be a performance hatch.
As an option you have the same brembo brakes as the type r has
Honda Fan boys losing their minds…😂 Roll racing from 3rd Gear at 50Kph is probably the worst gear for the i30N to be in
That GR had a great launches but that slow shift to 2nd really hurt it.
because its 4x4 with two lsd
Can’t wait to hear the excuses: “well, Type R is for corners..” - lol
Lol two of them had Dtc transmission and the others manual. Not that scientific when two subjects have an advantage and they use lunch control.
It is. We’re driving enthusiasts, not drag racers. To judge these cars on straight line speed is lame, and only for clicks.
@@ju4121 It's funny they have an advantage, but cost less...
@@williambellisIII But this was a drag race. Let's call it what it is. This was exactly that: a test of straight line speed. Type R got demolished, despite being the most expensive.
@@VidNibs My comment still stands. It’s a ridiculous way to judge these cars. So many car enthusiasts have become car simpletons. “Uh, what’s the 0-60? Can it gap a…?”
I don't understand why these auto channels never do the roll races in the individual vehicles's optimal gear.
Comparison of towing test of lc70 4 cylinder vs 8 cylinder
Civic Type R needs some form of either ZF automatic transmission or dual clutch because it is getting spanked by other vehicles that are either hatchbacks or compact vehicles that have dual clutches
The inside of the Cupra Leon is GOLF R, right? Of course it's fast. It's obvious that there is a difference between DCT and manual on a straight line, so I'd like you to compare it on a circuit.
It has been done by a British magazine on a small track. Leon was the winner
130N is a monster on the road and great value for money
Two autos v two manuals kind off takes the driver out of the equation in an auto lol
You gotta stop makin reverse speeds a thing 😴
I was expecting the Type-R to perform better rather that just about last on everything.
My next car will definitely be a Cupra in some form!
FWD, manual, average driver....Corolla is awd...cupra and i30N automatics
Also they tested up to 130kmph 🤦♂️.. and yes, average aussy driver cant shift sticks that’s why the type r is last. Put it on the track, it will sink all the others
It’s a straight line speed test for clicks. Whatever.
Civic is a track-oriented car, not a straight line 0-100 car.
You have to realize how much launching the manual Type R kills it. It scrabbles off the line biting for traction whereas the others with launch control just hook and go. My mate has the N Sedan and gets 5.8 at best on launch mode, so these numbers seem right.
I think it’d be reversed in a 60-120 though. Type R would be quick on the run with more power and torque. They’re not a traffic light hero though, they’re a proper drivers car.
Nice but you should race the cupra and the i30n 0-200 kmh on the last road that was fellming
Cupra Win !
Love my Cupra leon
Thank God it's not another boring ute video 😁
I want to see how the Sonata N Line does against the i30 N (hatch or sedan)
In both drag and roll race.
@@user-vk4vd7vr5t that’s why I want to see how it does against its hot hatch sibling, I know off the mark it’ll struggle due to lack of LSD and way too much torque for the front wheels, but in a roll it should be a hot contest, no channel has pitted these 2 cars against eachother.
Lose heavily. It's heavy and tyres just spin due to no lsd. The sedan N would win. Dunno about the hatch as it's slower.
@@mharro88 I own a Sonata N Line and I’ve driven an i30 Sedan N, off the mark I know the i30 N would win due to better grip, but my main interest is in real world performance which is gunning it together side by side from a roll, the Sonata is actually a rocketsled for roll-on performance.
