I absolutely love this car… Hyundai didn’t want to make it to be a GTI etc. but they did their own thing with it and made it an absolute fun and unique car. With the DCT it’s on the top of my list.

It’s more performance oriented than the GTI while the GTI is more comfort.

@@fabioribeiro5071 what? this thing is proving to be reliable and also goes fantastic. if the hyundai is the better car to drive wouldnt it be the better car anyway? they're hot hatches not city goers.

@@ChrisHolden-rv2fh well both the i30 and the golf aren’t that reliable they both have their problems, the golf is a better overall car than the i30 on build quality and it’s not even close, the i30 is not as comfortable as the golf, is heavier and slower than the golf and also less effective on corners, the i30 is more fun to drive because it lets loose it self in a controlled way, but both are provide of any felling when driving and you can’t help to realize the golf is a better quality product than the i30 having experience both.

    • @ChrisHolden-rv2fh

@@fabioribeiro5071 you have no opinion if you think the i30N isn't that reliable, do some research and you'll find almost nothing wrong motor wise. Do the same for any VW product. Plus - i30N isn't even that much slower in comparison, also has very confident braking that doesn't experience brake fade nearly as quickly as a golf. Also, hyundai hasn't had 40+ years to develop a hot hatch like VW has.

I have a 2022 DCT and it is fantastic. Better than VW DSG and they've been at it a lot longer. In normal mode it's very much like a torque converter automatic in feel, but in N mode with N Power Shift on it is bordering on violent 👌🏻 you don't get pops between every gear like a MT, but you don't need that when you can hold boost through the gear change

I heard on the grape vine that the technical capability for Wireless CarPlay is there, but it is pending some kind of legal dispute with one of the mapping companies. I’m hoping the functionality arrives in a future software update. In the meantime, a ~$100 wireless CarPlay dongle seems to work pretty well as a stopgap, and is easily hidden above the wireless charging pad with double-sided tape. Apart from a couple of CarPlay crashes (fixed by a simple unplug/replug), the only problem is that I now keep going inside and leaving my phone on the wireless charging pad!

It may not be a bad time to create a short video explaining "Steering Feel" to the average Joe. You hear a lot of reviews where the reviewer goes "there is not much feel through the wheel" or "the steering feel is great, you know exactly what the front wheels are doing". It will be great to have a video explaining what exactly this means and how to figure whether a car has a good steering feel or not. Keen to hear your thoughts.

Thanks again for the review Paul - you obviously enjoy the sporty aspect of this model given your daily drive is a Supra - Hyundai have done a good job of gazing across from Busan to Japan and took note of the Japanese approach mirroring the Euro approach to some degree although the absence of rear USB ports and other comforts in the rear is a bit naughty for this price tag - a Subaru with it’s better value for money and standard AWD is always going to be the goto for me only if it’s a manual (not the flawed CVT) - John back in SA

Absolutely love this car, I have a Golf R on order with commission number the lot but I’m taking one of these for a test drive in the next few weeks to see if it’s worth swapping. I would just sell my Golf R build slot / Commission number as demand here in 🇬🇧 is nuts for the Golf 8 R, plus I can get a new I30N a lot quicker. I’m waiting until June for my 8R but I can get hold of a new I30N by March. For me the blue or Performance blue whatever it’s called is looking a little dated now, a little bit like Lapiz blue for the Golf R. Hence why whatever one I eventually stump for is going to be in black. Yes high maintenance paint but stealthy and understated.

I think personally the blue is a nice colour. However I think it will make the car harder to sell down the line as a blue car isn’t necessarily everyone’s colour of choice. I’ve recently just put a deposit down on this car it does look a bit different as mine has red seatbelt straps and has leather seats. I personally went the shadow grey colour, as it’s a bit of a more neutral colour away from your standard black and white coloured cars.

Really tempting though, I regret selling my i30N. The 2 things I wished it had were better seats and a dual clutch gearbox so on that front it's a winner.

One of the reasons for modern car to retain glowbulbs in the blinkers is the blinker relays. If the lamps are old-fashioned bulbs, the relays can be much simpler. Once blinkers are upgraded to LED, there has to be a bit clever-er electronics involved. Anyway. Kuddos for Hyundai for making this.. what are these called in Australia? What I hate most about these car reviews, is that they don’t floor it . I wanna see the car being floored . If I wanted to watch this guy drive around like a grandma for 30mins I’d go to the Hyundai website and jus watch their reviews 🙅🏽

the only let down about this car is that there is no airvents and no usb in the back, with kids its not practicle and the only reason why i'm still iffy about this car, otherwise its a fantastic car

It’s a shame. Not sure why they couldn’t put them in.

    • @justinchan89
      @justinchan89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@CarExpertAus They couldn't put this in because it still uses a manual handbrake and this takes up the space in the centre console where vents and electronics would run.

@@justinchan89 nah, plenty other cars with manual handbrake with rear air con vents and USB charger like the Skoda Octavia

Did you encounter the axel tramp, Paul? Turned me right off when I test drove one and I found the new seats uncomfortable. Much preferred the old Fastback manual, but then I test drove a GR Yaris.... 🥰

It works well. I rarely use it but if you need to do something quick like open a bottle of water or something it's handy 🤷‍♂️ would likely be nice on a road trip.

I know that's not your fault, and you got DCT in the title, but why is there virtually no review of the manual? I see these things all around already, yet 9/10 reviews are of the DCT which (at least here in germany) most people don't seem to choose.

    • @thurules

Bring this back to America!!!!! We get the Veloster but no i30N (GT Elantra). So sad. This would be my car if I was buying new or used one car. Definitely the automatic!!!!!! Would take this over the Corolla GT and Civic type R for the price, clean style, and that exhaust.

Great review as always Paul. Sucked about the weather and lack of proper 0-100 but what can you do. Kinda baffling some of Hyundai's decisions to not have some of the niceties that are on the lesser models. This is the pick for me over the GTI but it will be interesting how the MK8 golf r is priced, this pushing 60k is pretty high.

Looks great.. however, the N is $10,000 more than the GTI and only 3 door coupe available in 🇨🇦
