I currently drive a 2022 i30N manual & honestly could not find a better modern manual performance car on budget that I could daily. Also not alot of people don't talk about it but it's very economical too. I thrash it at least once a day (usually on my drive home from work) and I average 8.8l per 100km.... Absolutely love it!
u need to rev corolla to 5000rpm to launch it properly. (TRACK MODE and Expert drive mode, otherwise there is a soft limiter at 4000 rpmp) I am a GR Yaris owner and talking from my own experience.
Love both cars but it is still the i30n for me, the panoramic sunroof and how well the DCT works wins me over! And this is coming from a manual driver.. so keen to get my delivery of the i30n in the next few weeks 😁

I own a GR Yaris Rallye and test drove the GR Corolla. The Corolla motor did feel stronger than the Yaris to me, but the turn-in on the Corolla felt a lot softer and the steering not as direct. Be great if someone could review the Yaris against the Corolla just to get another opinion but I came away from my test preferring to keep my Yaris.
Corolla seating is a bit lower, maybe that's why it felt faster? Because I doubt it's faster in a line than the Yaris. Power to weight is worse I'm pretty sure.
@@Philbyyyy Nah. Nothing to do with the seat mate. The Corolla still felt quite high. The motor felt a lot more linear in its delivery and a lot less laggy than the Yaris. I've owned mine for two years now and I could immediately feel the difference. That said, this is a new engine with improvements. It should feel better. However, the Corolla was definitely softer in the front end and the steering felt more numb, which would have been attributed to the weight difference and the awful tyres they stuck on the Corolla v my PS4S's.
@@darrenprior6339 that's interesting. Yeah the Corolla does have some strengthened internals, I thought that was because they increased the power slightly. I only really put my foot down in the Yaris when I'm above 3k rpm otherwise it takes a while for the turbo to get going. I don't notice much lag when it's in the right rev range. Sounds like the Corolla has improved on that though.
Great review guys, really liked the side by side rev. But, that was probably the worst launch of an i30N DCT I have seen, should be running 5.5’s on a bad day.
Nothing wrong with Advan Apex tires, ppl have run quicker laps than with P4S in same car. They are slightly more tracks focused, stiffer sidewalls and larger more rigid cornering blocks. My GR Corolla should be here in a couple of months my dealer tells me, can't wait 😁
Great vid guys! I'm just grateful these machines are still available in manual, which for someone like me in their late 30s is able to bring back the 90s/00s JDM nostalgia. Coming from the US. There's been a WRX in my driveway since '02. Wanted to buy a new STI, but Subaru said nooo. Owned my GR for about six weeks. First time I saw one it was when I got to the dealership the day of purchase, crazy. Dealer mark up here is ridiculous, most are MSRP + 5K. Got mine for 40K, Core. Would have bought a i30 but it worked out for me with the GR.
i30N is really a better version of the Golf GTI (which it was clearly modelled off), but I think the GR Corolla is so much more unique which gives it the win for me.

I test drove the DCT & the Manual and instantly ordered the manual . The DCT was pretty un-engaging to drive tbh, albeit a fair bit quicker than the manual the way it got through the gears, but unfortunately WAY more anti-social. The GR Corolla is not even an option here you simply cannot even walk into a dealer and buy one.
