- I put 26 x 12 x 12 Carlisle super lugs back on the hot rod John Deere 140 with a kohler k361 18hp ohv motor and Brantly power steering.

My god that looks unreal. A real piece of art. Give yourself a pat on the back. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Very nice job. I'm surprised you haven't gotten more negative comments about this build. Most JD lovers like them original. Not me. At least not anymore. I was once a purist but somewhere along the line I too started modifying a 317. Just about every winter after the grass stops growing something new gets added. I chose to go the other direction with power by installing a Kohler Command 25. Then power steering from a JD 425 along with the three-spool hydraulics from a 400. This year it's a third function hydraulic valve. I want the rear hydraulic taps to be separate so I can more easily leave the mower deck while using the three-point hitch. I've also built a complete harness with additional taps to separate the various systems and improve the grounding. I also retained all of the safety's so I guess I'm an exception to your statement about nobody caring about safety. I installed a new fabricated drive shaft also. I originally installed the "power assist" steering from the 400 but found it to be little if any improvement. The shift valve just added to the slop in the Ross steering sector. The later 4X5 series steering is easy to install and the 317 now drives just like a newer 425. My next mod (next year) will probably be foot controls. After owning nearly every model of JD garden tractors that is the one feature, I miss the most with the 317. It's been done but I have my own ideas on how I will do it.
So, we have something in common. I hope your video sparks some interest in others to discover how interesting modifying these machines can be. One can only repaint and shine up so many tractors until it gets boring. Which is the reason I'm no longer a purist. I just wish I could put together a decent video.
Very nice Tractor! Well done.
Great job on the "140"! I've got 3 green and yellows, F935 retired to snow blowing duty, GT235 for utility work and spot mowing, 1445 front mount for mowing, but my "work tractors" are Power Kings. 2418 with a loader, 1618 (with a M18 Kohler retro) blade tractor and a 66 model 2414 for utility work. Consider a Power King for your Plow Days, you will be impressed!
Love the bigger tires and especially the slab weights
HOTT DAMN!! That thing is an absolute UNIT! And thanks for helping me figure out what path might work for my 140’s power steering options! 🍻
I bought a new 120 and 140 and cut grass with them in Sarasota Florida in the 70 thanks for sharing
That’s a great looking and well done project! Need to get some of those WFM decals for my herd…
I never thought i would need a garden tractor with power steering but then i bought a john deere 345 its the best john deere i have ever had my brother has 17 john deere garden tractors even a 1963 110 round fender....i tell him all the time he can go to the dr. for that and we get a good laugh out of it
I think you made the right call by waiting until youd spent 20 minutes explaining tedious modifications before saying "No sense in complicating things". LOL. That is one HELL of a custom tractor. Plus i learned a lot!
Very cool
Awesome tractor build!
Great explanation of the story behind it.
Beautiful machine mate .
This is the ultimate 300 series build. I can't wait to start on my 318.
Awesome.
Thats a sweet machine. Hopefully ill see it at plow day. Ill probably be hanging with Trazzera if he comes.
The Traz is still undecided at this time.
Exelent job..don't like the big air filter hanging out in the open.needs the muffler and exhaust going up through the hood chrome.
You make them all look like a 10/10 you are gorgeous
Please paint that little rusty bellcrank on the motor so I can sleep at night you did a fantastic job love it
You're really making me want to swap the tires over from my Cub 982 to my JD314 just to see what it would look like. Nice machine man !!!
Very nice!
I might be able to tackle a project of that size and they're still cool.
Really like that 140 Definitely neat Caught my eye when I saw the thumbnail it looked odd now I know why lol. turned out really nice the only thing that throws it off to me is green grille as well as the 68 140 decal with the sun strand 15U pump as well as the Dana 15 rear end and the 1 inch front spindles instead of the smaller front spindles and the sun strand 15 pump with the peerless rear end. One thing I think you should have done was make it an H3 instead of H2 I know the 317 wasn't H3 but the H3 option is nice. Going to have to watch the videos you did on that machine, if your interested in learning any more information about the 140 or even 317 or anything else I have a TH-cam channel where I work on as well as do other things messing with them. Keep up the good work excited to see that tractor plow dirt and also snow (they do a good job in the snow)
THANKS FOR THE INFO
Looks pretty good! I bet even better in person. The front tires look a little big but could just be the csmera
😎👍
Why would anyone trade Firestone for the junk Carlisle tires is beyond belief
What front tires are you using
Can you post a list for your rebuild?
Where can you find a John Deere nut cover for the steering wheel? Your tractor looks great!!

Titan true power. Titan got bought by Goodyear.
lmfao...i got hood winked, i seen the thumb nail and i have a '71 h3 140 and i was like wtf...that's not a 140 at allllllllll. 9:20 okay 317..... don't call it a 140 other wise i am putting a 140 sticker on my two 445's, you don't have the slide lever that can go forward to reverse in 0.250 seconds . that's why i love the 100 series. that tower console shift lever isn't as nice. i skipped over all that tower console for the foot pedal control freeing up a hand for running the 3 functions, yes i put a rear hydro lift in for the 445 as the rockshaft is just too weak compared to the 140's
Well obviously you know everything it seems! I’ll just throw this in the trash now. Thanks for letting me know!👍🏻👍🏻

Clout that's why, lol
So sad to see that the guy who painted it completely ruined everything original. Very poor paint job :\
Did you watch the video? The entire tractor is custom made from a 317…. Nothing about this is original. And the paint job was all nicely done powder coat….
