Before doing a fluid/filter change I tracked the fluid temp in summer heat for a week or so, after service the temp dropped by about 20F on average. Did I spy a teeny, tiny scorpion checking out the wheel arch during the intro? 😉 Very fair review and I agree it is an attractive design inside and out. That mileage is crazy good for a non-hybrid. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
I had a 2019 SR Turbo 6 speed manual for a little over a year and loved it. Great to drive, not too fast but not slow either, easy clutch, just made for cheap and dumb fun. Go Nissan! Please get back to your glory days
Love your reviews of cars based on what they are designed for. For the nerds who want to see how they're built is something no other reviewer does that I know.
I think it's great that you called out the braking intervention, not enough reviews look at this kind of "living with this vehicle" detail. I'm very glad I can disable the one assist my car has.
Unexpectedly brilliant video. Because not many presenters these days actually have your depth of technical knowledge (measuring those stabiliser bars' thickness!!). 👌
I really hope that Nissan did not give up on the VC system. As expected, it had some VERY serious initial production reliability problems, but could end up being something we all want in a turbocharged engine. The VC system is essentially the 2020 version of VVT, especially if Nissan's claims of improving balance and ring wear(inline formats) are true. Given the problems that people had with it, it is perfectly reasonable for them to pull it from the market for a year or two and get it better sorted so that it does not end up with a Powershift, Vanos, self milling Hyundai I4, or GM V8 bottom end(16'-current fail bearings) reputation.
Common issues I've noticed with this car: Manual gearbox isn't the greatest, I've seen the same car go through 3 replacements. The engine splash shield is very fragile and almost all of them break. The Hankook Kinergy GT tires are attrocious tires. I've seen tons of replacements due to sidewall failure. If you purchase this car, get rid of those tires ASAP.
As a former b-17sr owner I can say that the gas mileage, visual aesthetics of the vehicle are the only two things that are alright and "cruising" at 80mph. CVT is the reason I'll never go back though. Also B-17sr reminded me of a cool flying fortress. Cute fit : )
I had a B14 Sentra for eight years. It was a fun little car, had lots of personality and only broke down once. I miss the Sentra SE-R. If Honda and Hyundai can do it with the Civic Si and the Elantra N, surely Nissan can drop a turbocharger and a 6-speed in this.
Thanks for sharing. Some important points. This vehicle also has low tires in an urban environment with bumpers and deceleration strips. Parking on a half-pavement you will hear the metal sound of the wheel plowing the road. Under the hood looks messy and access is less convenient changing belts, etc.
I used to have a 97 Sentra GXE and I had it for 8.5 years, that was the first car that I bought and every single vehicle I've ever bought has been Japanese brands.
What was the weird whine sound it made at the end of each rev? Sounded like it was jumping another 1000 rpm. You made an excellent point about analyzing the reliability and longevity of cars in this price range. By definition, cars in this range are bought by people who likely can barely afford maintenance, making these far more likely to make an appearance in episodes of Just Rolled In but that may not accurately reflect the design or build quality of the car itself, only the economic strata of the typical buyer.
I looked at this car and for the price you can get it for, it's not bad. If they made a manual transmission version I would have seriously considered it.
Hi Sarah, my Talking Snake told me to show you this because you like to learn about stuff. So here it is: The first production car to use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) was the 1958 DAF 600, built in the Netherlands. However, the idea for a CVT has been around for centuries, with Leonardo da Vinci sketching a design in 1490. Other early patents for CVTs were filed in the 1880s by Daimler and Benz.
My wife has a 2012 Sentra that she keeps in top shape. I cannot believe how much stuff you can get in the trunk of that car. Nice to know Nissan still makes a big trunk on the Sentra.
My second car was a 99 Infiniti I30T with the 3 L VQ, I loved that car. In fact I sold it to my aunt and she still driving it after I ordered the Subaru thing I didn’t like about the car the axle, beam rear suspension, and the four-speed automatic (you could order a manual but hardly anybody did)
fake shifts are because of ppl (incl. car reviews) that found the constant engine noise annoying. I guess you cant make everyone happy. But its clever, coz it moves just a tiny bit where the power does not really drop much. It oscilates at the peak power (after and before it).
I can’t attest to new versions of either but to hear that the sentra handles better than the mazda3 is surprising! I’ll have to drive a sentra one day, although I quite disliked the altima.
Irrelevant comment... I really liked the colour of that car. Would detail up nicely. Seems like a good sensible car for someone that is not really into cars and just wants to move and carry kids or gear.
Would be a nice little compact if a sporty-trim manual transmission was available in the USA. Not interested in owning anything with a belt/chain design CVT transmission though.
It reminds my first car, Nissan Sentra 2003, 2.5L model and it's a power house for a compact body. However, the big engine deserves an engine bay of full size sedan like Altima. It was service nightmare, especially, when I needed to change both cam shaft and crank shaft sensors. Hope this model won't be the same case. But I have to say, Nissan did a lot of improvements and innovations in this model after 20+ years.
I had a Sentra SER Spec-V. I wish I still did! It was much cheaper than the competition. The track tuned suspension didn't do well with city potholes & no snow traction on summer tires but it was otherwise totally reliable & a ton of fun. It had a 6 speed manual & Brembo brakes so no fade or dive at all & a short stopping distance on full braking. A Causes Vomitting Transmission isn't appropriate in a "sport" model!
Of course people want affordable cars, my 09 Corolla has been paid off since 2013.. that's what I call affordable. Edit... I wouldn't mind getting a Sentra Sr (but I'm still keeping my Corolla until it's dead) as long as I could find a Sentra Sr in the 5-speed manual.

I love catching a new Sarah, I wait for you every few days!!!! Those cars last forever, I just love a manual transmission.
Nice video...drove a Sentra in Germany in the 1990s while stationed there. Nissan is weird and outdated. As for sedans, I wish Mazda would be bring back the Mazda 6...esp the ones with the V6. Even with their new SkyActiv turbo4 under the hood it would be sexyFun with 256 hp
Love the Starfleet cosplay
I was digging the ST:TNG throwback vibe as well.
THIS IS A GREAT CAR FOR A FAMILY HAULER AND DAILY DRIVER.
Base Versa starts at $16k and has three pedals. I never thought I'd want a Versa, but I kind of want a Versa.
Oh I didn't know that? 3 pedals I'm going to find one thx.
You can buy three used SCIONs for that price- 1.8 liter T/chain motor, please!
2011/12 are great years for the xD.
Better yet, double that and get a BRZ/GR86 and you will have the mostfun/dollar hands down.
@@funguy2playwith Don't the new ones have issues with stray chunks of sealant( silicone) clogging oil passages?
It's deff a tossable lil car 😅
Another great car review. Your channel is the best car channel out there!
GREAT VIDEO SARAH!!!! I AGREE WITH YOU 100% ON EVERYTHING!!!!
that car looks nice, i bet it would be better with a manual transmission and some more horsepower and some better brakes on it.
Kinda wish Suzuki came back to America/Canada, the stuff they’ve been making in the past few years have been solid. More Japanese nuggets!
I think it's great that you called out the braking intervention, not enough reviews look at this kind of "living with this vehicle" detail. I'm very glad I can disable the one assist my car has.
A Sentra with mismatch body panels, bumper covers ripped and hanging off, headlights replaced and duct taped in... This is my old car!
A new Sarah video and a cup of Joe in the morning makes my day 😘
Lord ain’t that the truth!
Common issues I've noticed with this car:
Manual gearbox isn't the greatest, I've seen the same car go through 3 replacements.
The engine splash shield is very fragile and almost all of them break.
The Hankook Kinergy GT tires are attrocious tires. I've seen tons of replacements due to sidewall failure. If you purchase this car, get rid of those tires ASAP.
I used to lobe Nissans from the late 80s to late 90s. But when Renault acquired the corporation, I lost interest. Nissan never was the same.
1992 manual Sentra XE for the win!
Oh I owned a 1996 Nissan 200 SX SE-R 5 speed stick in white. Those were the days. I miss it.
Your complete commitment is really impressive, right down to speccing the car to match your wardrobe.
I don’t like the car, I like her. Her performance is so great ❤
I like this womans presentation style, much more than the brakes on that Nissan.
always enjoy watching you Sarah....
drove an 02 Spec V for 13 years- tons of sensor issues but i really liked it.
So here it is:
The first production car to use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) was the 1958 DAF 600, built in the Netherlands. However, the idea for a CVT has been around for centuries, with Leonardo da Vinci sketching a design in 1490. Other early patents for CVTs were filed in the 1880s by Daimler and Benz.
We have a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport that gets up to 32 miles a gallon with almost 300,000 miles on it. No major problems after 10 years.
My fav car channel!!! I hope you enjoy the holiday and take a day the relax.
My wife has a 2012 Sentra that she keeps in top shape. I cannot believe how much stuff you can get in the trunk of that car. Nice to know Nissan still makes a big trunk on the Sentra.
Helped my brother just buy one of these. Msrp was 28,400 we got it for 24,500.
Nice job Sarah!
Happy Humpday Sarah!!!
Stay excellent!!!😎
I bought a B13 Sentra brand-new back in '91. It was a fun little car. That 16V I4 engine had some pep, for its day.
Please do a review of 2025 Nissan Sentra SR
Sarah does the best car reviews)
I had a B13 manual and then buyed a B15 2005 SeR Spec V. I miss those fun to drive car
Happy 4th of July Sarah, it's nice, I would buy it
Your *voice* should be heard by more people. "SarahSpeak" is a thing.
Sentra is huge compared to the 1997 version my neighbor had
Of course people want affordable cars, my 09 Corolla has been paid off since 2013.. that's what I call affordable. Edit...
I wouldn't mind getting a Sentra Sr (but I'm still keeping my Corolla until it's dead) as long as I could find a Sentra Sr in the 5-speed manual.
I enjoyed this review and also you in grey blue 🐸
Great work Sarah, as always. My favourite TH-cam car reviews, your knowledge, details, and of course, winning personality (I get your fashion choice for the car too), always shine! 👍🙏
