    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

      I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

    New flash as a slave descendent I can tell you nothing beats living in the Gambia..... paying 2,000 American dollars for the entire year.(up front) or $240 American dollars a month. Now If you pay for the year and let your checks still keep being directly deposited you'll have a sizable amount at the end of the year and some ot it can be transferred into your savings.... leaving just enough for utilities and food in your checking account...okay. . At the end of the year most of the money from your checks is there for you to pay for the next year. The one bed room apartment has a wonderful view and it's a beautiful apartment. There are 4 bedroom houses for an average of 5 thousand American dollars for the year as well. You can still travel the world, but your ancestors need you to return to your rightful homeland and its not America. None the less the video was nice..... Thank you. I'm living my best senior life in Africa ...one of the things is the friendly people, very sweet fresh fruits and the beaches with locals selling hot fresh seafood and chips(call French fries by them) under gazebos to take a break from the sun while hearing the laughter of families enjoying a safe day at the beach, without the fear of being shot. This is what I call living my best life.

      Lee, Be careful when buying real estate abroad. Every country has VERY DIFFERENT laws. We suggest that people move there, learn the lay of the land, the market factors, and get a good attorney. We've seen some horror stories, that were perfectly legal but the American assumed that the new country had the same laws and it cost them $10s of $1000s of dollars. You don't want to go out like that.😎

Here in MIRAFLORES Peru I have a 3 bedroom.. 4 bathrooms.. balcony outside my living room .. balcony outside my bedroom.. on my second floor I have a rap around balcony big enough for a cookout. On the top floor.. doorman downstairs with underground parking. All for $950 monthly.. maintenance.. electrical.. cable.. etc is a total of $300 more monthly. So Peru was my choice and the security is great in the District of Lima. Pollution is C plus -B . The food.. people.. culture you can’t beat. You just have to learn the language.

    I currently live in LA and I have friends here from both Columbia and Ecuador. The cities that you called out. Both friends ran for their lives to get her. My beautiful, well educated Ecuadorian sister lived here under the radar with on an expired visa. I witnessed her mom on the phone crying and telling her not to come back. She had a very plush office job in Ecuador, nice car. Her brothers at least 4 had to drive her to work and home. She had to live with her family even though she could afford to live alone. The crime is so bad in Ecuador and especially for women. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾Black, brown, white, Asian…Women are not safe there!!!

      Hey Delene, thank you for watching. We've interviewed African American Expats that now live in both Cuenca and Medellin who absolutely love it, feel safe, and have no plans on moving back to the US. I'm wondering if, as Americans, they're in a bit of a privileged bubble? Now, I have heard of Americans getting 'mickied' in da clubs in Medellin and then having their stuff stolen. But that happens in LA too, (born and raised in LA) but instead of paying $3.00 for the drink you've paid $15.00. However, the majority of our audience is of a certain age and is not hanging out in the clubs. Happy hunting.

Also Rwanda is clean, very green and beautiful but there is a unkind truth that all is not yet resolved and some what unclear and uncomfortable. Love the president but not sure after he goes into retirement will the political peace last. The tension between the two major groups is still in question? Many Rwandas coming back home like in South Africa to find their grand fathers land now gone!

    Split, Croatia is one of the best kept secrets in Europe. I had no idea it would be so beautiful! It's amazing, laid back and very accepting. I was there with a group that was 50/50 African American and we all felt safe and comfortable moving around the city. I rode the bus alone once and a nice elderly lady, a good barometer of the city's level of hospitality, came up and started small talk with me like I was a native. Don't get me wrong, the black members of the group were "noticed" more than the others. Once a group of teen ages, amazed at seeing black folk, asked if I was Kobe Bryant. (I'm 5' 8 so nah) Another time, a young brother in our group got separated from us while walking near the waterfront. We found him with a group of young locals surrounding him asking for an autograph. So me and a white member of our group put on our shades and walked up to him and said, "it's time to go, sir", as if we were his body guards. The crowd around him went nuts! LMAO! When we got him aside, I said, "bro... you must've told those kids you were Usher". Overall, it was a great experience!

    As black people, why do we find it necessary to live among other people that do not consider us as equal? it is stink in America, and is the fabric that blends America together. Is there a white country that black people can live and feel at peace? I fully understand that we are retiring below our means, which seem like a delight to most. However for me, I would rather live in peace among my own. People look like me and cops treating me as a person and not shoot first and ask questions later. I desire to live in a free society irrespective of cost of living.

    As an Afroeuropean I have traveled to different countries around the globe and the best location I really enjoyed the most and felt really welcome and homely was the Caribbean. Here are the list of countries I visited. Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama. The two countries I will recommend for all my African American brothers and where I'll most likely retire myself are The DR or Panama. I enjoyed Panama immensely. For me it was a perfect dream location for retirement. The country had everything I needed and lots of Afropanamanians to relate with. That's my dream destination followed by The DR. If you want to move to a place that will make you happy as a Black person based on my own experience and meeting other genuine blacks folks to interact with then these are my top choices. Secondly Panama has a decent amount of development including a decent and affordable universal healthcare system.

      Hey Robert, your videos are gorgeous. We interviewed an African American who relocated with her husband to the DR and we're going to be interviewing an immigrant to Panama soon. Panama especially garners a lot of comments. Personally, I cannot do humid heat - that's a no-go for me. 🤣. I also don't do bugs. 😳 I know it's silly but folks need to know what is a need and what is a want. The lack of humid heat is definitely on my 'needs list'. 😂

Asians are so horrified at the thought of their skin getting the slightest tan, they often live perpetually under an umbrella like Michael Jackson! Even Mexico, while not typically harsh in their treatment of Blacks, they have a history of not even acknowledging the presence or plight of Afro-Mexicans. Not even counting them n the Mexican census! Afro-Mexicans aren't hired in government jobs, aren't part of the mainstream Mexican business community. Hey Eugene, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Judging from the flags you grew up in Britain? We have friends here from Britain, whose parents are from the islands or countries in Africa - they prefer it here. This is the 6th safest country in the world, and while there's still pickpocketing and other petty crimes, violent crimes continue to decline. With that said, when will we see you in these Lisbon streets? 😆

      Hey WhiskeyWoman, Thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. 💕
      As far as healthcare quality, all of these countries scored as good as or better than the US.
      Healthcare quality is a filter but costs are not included in the database that we use. You will find, that for most countries healthcare is a right, not a privilege and all of these countries have healthcare quality of above average to excellent or as good as or better than the US; usually at a lower cost.
      If you're seriously considering a move abroad, Google the country you're interested in and see if they have universal healthcare, as Portugal does. Use the database to see the quality. Join ex-pat/immigrant Facebook groups for those countries and see what folks are talking about. The database that we use can be found in our Ready to Retire Toolkit which you can get here: bit.ly/OBUresources.

    As Americans moving to another country, you need to be mindful of the other country's culture. They might not do things the way you are accustomed, but you just have to exercise patience and keep your disgust to yourself. For example, America is a fast paced country, everything is done by microwave while other countries are slower, therefore, be mindful and respectful of their hiccups...WATCH YOUR ATTITUDE!

      I am a USA citizen and I do not use microwave because it talks out many nutrients. Some countries have much higher food standards then the USA, maybe not in all areas, but in some. Some countries food is seen as scared to feed the body. In the USA, there is much junk food and food with no nourishment that feeds the parasites in the body. Look closely at the different foreign cultures before you consider them backward, that usually helps gain enlightenment.

    Q, How do you rate Panama for Black's from the US?

    • @OurBlackUtopia
      @OurBlackUtopia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Arron, we know many Black Americans who've moved to Panama and love it. We would suggest you do a few things. 1. Find the black expat/panama immigrant Facebook groups. Join them and 'listen' to the conversations. 2. Create a list of what you need the new country to have and what you would like the new country to have, ie. wants & needs list. 3. Create a move abroad plan that includes enough wholistic scouting trips to answer your questions. 4. Avoid doing the American thing and looking to purchase a condo or house right away. Rent for a year, to make sure you like it. For the two of us, it took a week on our only scouting trip for us to decide that we love Lisbon. We plugged in with the english-speaking black folks and had friends to welcome us when we returned. Unfortunately, most of our friends are immigrants, but at least not all of them are from the US; that will change as we become more comfortable using our Portuguese. 🤪

    Hey guys, I returned from Rwanda back to the states in 2021 Unfortunately, the cost of living there is much higher, with monthly rents for a nice apartment or house averages about $700-1200 a month, with landlords requesting 3-4 months for security deposit and 1-3 rent in advance.

    • @OurBlackUtopia
      @OurBlackUtopia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lynda, thank you for watching and adding to the conversation.
      If a person can get $700 rent then they can definitely live their for double that. Folks pay 50% of their income on rent in the US all day long.
      There's always a cost to move and it is not unusual to have to pay the equivalent of 6 month's rent and folks should plan accordingly.
      These prices come from a database that is gathered through surveying mostly digital nomads and immigrants. We always suggest that folks do a serious scouting trip before making a major move. 😉

      Hello Dr. Braxy. Leaving DC? I'm planning on heading to DC/MD area next year from the super crazy state of FL. We were military and the last time I lived in DC was in 2007, and before that, 1980's 'when' it was the 'Chocolate City.' Those were the days; however, I had noticed somewhat of a change in 2007, but it STILL has to beat FL's 'maniacy!'

      @Angela Smith, if you're considering a move abroad, you might want to maintain or move back to FL before moving abroad...no income tax...

    • @angelasmith7369
      @angelasmith7369 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OurBlackUtopia Oh I know; however, Floridian politics is so skewed and all in all awful, that even without income tax, I'm ready to leave here. Not used to 'this' particular brand of racism. Thank you for the advice 'though.

      I don't blame you AT ALL. But you can establish residency there right before you are ready to leave the US, so that you can avoid what I am assuming are high taxes in MD/DC... You don't have to really "live" there again - check out what the requirements are. You might be able to just use someone else's address. There are other low/no tax states too - but they're all like FL for the most part...any surprise? 😉

    Accra: rents are charged 1-2 years IN ADVANCE! Anything less than 1000ghs per month( x 12 or 24 months in advance) will not be up to good standards. Over 1000ghs per month (×12/24 months) will take an agent to help locate and when they do you will have to pay 10% agent fee of total plus 10% to the owner on top of that 1-2 year rent. Shopping in the market can stretch your food budget somewhat. Shoprite is high! And if you dont have a car, public transportation will be needed to go anywhere as things are spread out because Accra is saturated so the outlying communities is where you can find rentals. But you will be happy there with at least $2500 monthly.

      Hello Saundra, thank you so much for watching AND for the information. Since recording this, we have heard some interesting things about the "tipping culture" in Ghana. But no place is perfect, Portugal certainly isn't, and everyone is looking for something different. But this is why you do a thorough scouting trip and talk to folks on the ground. 😉

      Yasyas1, thank you so much for watching.

    You guys provided some great information, so as not to be overly critical of your pronunciation of some of these countries' names I would like to offer the correct pronunciations.
    Medellin is pronounced = Me-Di-Yine
    Phuket is pronounced = Fu-Ket
    Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more videos.
