Actually, i traveled in Morocco on my own. I spent a very good time. Even in your own country you have weirdos. In Marocco, when you're a tourist you're very protected, man or woman. If you are bothered by someone, go to the police, but be careful, as a tourist the police can put the person bothering you easily in jail for 3 months for a simple argument with a tourist. So be fair in your complaints. The Moroccan government lives off of tourism, tourists are an asset for the country, so they don't want their people to misbehave. In the airport, they also give you gifts for you to have a good stay ect...i went to Marrakech, ouarzazat, ozode, ourika, the Sarah desert, everywhere I went I was welcomed and spent a great time, one of my best trips. I also went solo in Tunisia, in Djerba, it was an extraordinary experience, the beaches are to die for. People are amazing there too, good memories and same as Morocco for tourist, tourism is a big part of the economy there too, and tourists safety is key there also. I never felt unsafe in Tunisia. I live in Paris, grew up in France and sometimes, i feel unsafe here 😩😩 i also feel unsafe when i go to Germany, where my brother and his little familly live because of my skin colour.
There is No blending in ....when YOU... don’t share, same religion, language or Culture, plus a Women’s elevation or de elevation is determined by their own MEN First. 👈 Unfortunately, BM in all Cultures have not set good examples of RESPECT for their own women so traveling abroad expecting (foreigners) to offer YOU want your own Race or Tribe 👈 has denied YOU is very unrealistic.
@@girl123boy456 this is true, as an African American woman, as sad as it sounds, I don't care for traveling. Based on the foreigners I've befriended or acquainted myself, there's always subtle shade about my culture. And I always try to be respectful bc I know how some Americans are about foreigners but many cant hide how they feel about us.
None of those complaints were bad treatment. They could have rolled with it or they could guess it was some sort of slight, which almost assured that it was not. That was their internal demons and not the people who simply pointed at someone unique in their experience. Surely if they talked they would have found no illwill was intended. You probably point at celebrities in your own society. It means nothing in China other than "oh, look" and it might mean they thought the women were beautiful or maybe they were unique because most were overweight which is rare in Asia.
As a Black man who has traveled to over 100 countries, I agree and have experienced much of what is stated on this video, especially in Morocco and Italy. Christmas night, 2017, my wife and son had to walk three miles back to our hotel in Rome because no taxis would stop for us. But after thirty years of traveling the world, I’ve learn to expect it. However, what truly breaks my heart is when it occurs in African countries. Most notably South Africa, Botswana and Cameroon, I’ve had wait staff and hotel clerks pass me over to attend to white customers. I can handle racism from whites, Asians, middle-easterners and Latin people, I’ve been dealing with that all of my life. But when people of your own hue shit on you to appease whites, that’s particularly hurtful. But I’d like to end my comment on a positive note; the friendliest place that I have personally experienced as a person of color is The Gambia. Sweetest people on earth. The country is small, the people are poor but I have never felt more warmth anywhere else.
I've seen the same in Jamaica. They bent over backwards to appease the white customers. Although they weren't rude to me or my husband, they treated us like you would family and the white people were guests.
"Most notably South Africa, Botswana and Cameroon, I’ve had wait staff and hotel clerks pass me over to attend to white customers."-don't be surprized about this experience in any black country that you travel to. Unfortunately, there are black people in this world with a colonized mind.
I was about to comment the same thing! I’ve lived in India on and off, and the patriarchal culture makes being a woman a rough experience. I have known many foreign women who have been groped, most of us have been cat called, and if you’re a foreigner....you’re getting ripped off and overpaying. The personal space bubble there is also non-existent if you are used to how far we stand apart in the west. They stand WAY too close. And the cutting in line is a real thing. From my perspective, they do this to everyone....especially if they have one item and you have 20, they walk in front of you. I have had several confrontations with people who felt the need to just step right in front of me, which the store staff found hilarious. It just made me so angry. Now I know it’s mostly cultural. Overall, it’s best to have some knowledge of the country and culture before going, and safest to travel with a buddy...though I’ve traveled solo there.
@@amandamarklandyoga I travel there an I went with a person from there. Sometimes I have to give my friend money so they will not rip me off. If it was too high she will tell me not to get it.
I wad also about to make a similar comment. I have heard the horrible things they do to their own women in the news. I just want to see the Taj Mahal but defo not alone.
China has its own culture and pointing at someone who looks different than their neighbors is not hostility or aggression. Now they learned what celebrities deal with, either get angry or flow with it and appreciate that one is noticed, It is obvious these women have not traveled much or if they did, they did not venture out into the societies that were hosting them.
Are we using wisdom to go to china and the alike as a black American???? Use wisdom. Dont put yourself in compromising positions....... Not wise. Look at the politics in America at this time. 2021.
I, a black British woman, drove solo along the pacific coast highway and had the time of my life. When things did go awry and the cops appeared they were disarmed by my accent and skin colour and I kid you not were so solicitous and obliging me an escort to where it was I needed to be to get back en route. This was 11 yrs ago. That trip is up there with my other best road trip through the Namib dessert. Beautiful.
Ok so let’s be honest, how many of us didn’t know Asian’s had a problem with black women by just visiting your local hair store or nail salon? No need for me to have to go to their “motherland “to determine that. But maybe that’s just me ... 🤷🏽♀️
I don’t know abt nail salons but many hair salons who turn you away may do so because they don’t have experience handling African hair textures which is different from Asian hair. Happened once when I was in a Salon, I am Asian living in Asia. The Black lady who walked in was told they don’t know how to handle her hair, she was offended but they truly just had no experience or confidence and were afraid of damaging it.
Black people in America almost universally go to black hair stylists...the lady was referring to is a lot of Asians who come to America move into black neighborhoods and don’t actually like black people...even though that is their main customer base.
@@Buffy-cc7ud hi. It makes no sense for me to walk into a store with an attitude. Thanks for your comment but it doesn’t make sense to me. It’s irrelevant to me. I perceive you to be a Caucasian that has come to see what is being said in this video and to find comments that you can negatively reply to. Only black men and women can identify with the statement I made, which was not from a place of having an attitude; but an experience. im not black but i wouldnt frequent a place who treated blacks differently either. they dont deserve my business. im not white either. its really important to me to not support prejudice or racist behavior. i refuse! thats why im watching this even though im not black. i want to know which places deserve tourism. hearing from black women firsthand is important to get the right information on this subject. it also may help give me an idea if indigenous women like myself may be accepted. i do have lighter skin but i dont want to just get by just by possibly "passing". ill take my time and money elsewhere. i want to go where its safe for all women period.
I am from India, and I can vouch for that. People here, despite being brown themselves are some of the most racist people you'll ever get to meet. However I really hope people are changing, but it will take a long time to change. People here are obsessed with fair skin, so much so that if you do not come under the fair skinned group, you will be looked down upon, and this is something that happens to the people who actually are Indians. We boast about being diverse and shit like that, but the people are so divided, it's shameful.
How many Indians claim to be white unless they moved to the west where they can be given privileged status thanks to Affirmative Action? If NOT for white Christian men, slavery would still be common in most of the world. It was white men who ended slavery in our own countries then FORCED other races and races to end slavery in their countries. WE NEVER GAVE THEM A CHOICE. In INDIA doesn't CASTE still matter? instead of your fellow Indians YOU WORRY ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS WITH HURT FEELINGS? All these African Americans complaining about not being treated well but won't move to Africa to FREE the 10+ MILLION African slaves in Africa TODAY . Africans enslaved by Africans , sold to Africans and kept in Africa. Wouldn't FREEING those who are slaves TODAY be more important than complaining about slavery whites chose to end over 150 years ago?
@laurabernard2094. Absolutely NOT!! If you're a European Jew, you can choose to hide that. Black people cannot hide their features and identity as easily. STOP with the FALSE equivalency.
It’s rooted in the world’s guilt and jealousy from knowing, exploiting and benefiting from our centuries long exploitation and systematically justifying their evil/selfish misconduct with institutional lies and denigration of our humanity and actual worth. Very difficult for most to overcome imbedded guilt or to relinquish or even share undeserved privilege.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I’m a Native American woman. I’ve experienced what you experience in China here in the US. The tourist that come to our communities behave as the Chinese. They take our picture and also touch or attempt to touch our hair and any native jewelry we may be wearing. They’re terribly ignorant and rude. Tragic because America is the homeland of my ancestors.
I am German and I am ashamed to say that my fellow Germans are racists. My children are interacial and it is really hard for me to see the suffering all this. I was raised different, my mother taught us that the blood in ihr veigns is red and everyone is born and dies the same way, we are all the same and we are all brothers and sisters. If we are all children of god, how can a person treat others different just because they look different? She always said this to us.
I was discriminated against in getting an apartment in Canada, the landlord was Chinese.. isn't it Ironic they yell " this is racism" to the authorities, but they practice it to black people.
Please remember Black women you are the definition of beauty. You are gorgeous, your are amazing, you are not be touched unless your volunteer to be, your are not destined to be viewed as an exhibit in a human zoo. Please remember.
The same thing happens with white people in China, if you're not in one of the big metropolises like Hong Kong or Beijing, people stare because you look different and even try to touch you as if you were a zoo animal... and Yes, some people don't know boundaries and they come across as rude, even if they are just very curious. In Maroko they seem to have an obsession with blonde children, they have some themselves, but that's very rare... there's a myth that stroking blonde children on the head brings good luck... I'm sure you can Imagine the confusion of parents with blonde children when complete strangers suddenly touch your child... While we're in North Africa, ..... the traders in the markets are very aggressive in advertising their goods... they drag you into their shops if they think you have money, no matter what color your skin is... I recommend that as a woman you never go to these markets alone, it is better with a male companion.... Something similar happened to my friend, and he is a German man... he was at such a market in Egypt with his little daughter... suddenly one of the sellers grabbed the child to pull it into his shop, hoping that the father would would follow... oh yes he followed... my friend punched him in the face, there was a huge commotion until the police came. when my friend explained what the seller was trying to do and then the crowd turned against the seller...but first they wanted to beat up my friend...the policeman shouted at the seller and my friend was allowed to leave... But the damage was already done, the little one was totally frightened and cried heartbreakingly and clung tightly to her father... the people were suddenly very nice and wanted to help, but my friend gave them a death stare, and they retreated. It is said that when someone goes on a trip, they can experience something....um yes, you can....sometimes very unexpected things, no matter how well you prepare. Doesn't refer everything to racism, some people are just idiots.... annoying when you catch one or the other on your hard-earned vacation.

While I agree with your comment about people know what they are doing, but then how are stereotypes and prejudices changed? In listening to the ladies' stories - the ones, especially in the Middle East and South Asia, had as much or more to do with misogyny as race. As a man - I saw constantly the subtle and not so subtle harassment of women for example in Cairo when I lived there - that it almost seemed to be part of the cityscape.
I think one of the biggest problems that these women have a lack of understanding of world history and how embedded racism is in these countries that they are going to solo. With that said them being by themselves leaves them more vulnerable. Hence, it would be beneficial for them to have a black male companion to go with them.❤️🖤💚
For the water taxi guy that was treated badly people are treat badly in Amerikka also just as badly - some of these behavior may be more class than color - remember some countries have a caste system - just saying

@@brianlawson4368 I mean, that’s interesting…. I’ve been all those places you’ve been and all over Italy. I really enjoyed Rome and most folks I know had a great time there. But tbh, your comment makes sense sociologically. I usually think that in Europe they have the biggest problems with the “colored folk” they know or are closest to. My German husband grew up being told all the crime in his town was due to Turkish guest workers who moved there after the war. They get talked about and treated like black people in America. In southern Italy they are super close to Africa and so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were more racist towards black people in that region. My sis and I were in Northern Italy once and messed up a train transfer and ended up on the Swiss border. We didn’t have our passports on us (as we weren’t intending on leaving Italy that day… it was before EU) so we were stuck till a return train was coming… till dawn. There was an African mom with her little boy and she got fully searched by border agents… all her bags and things, treated like a criminal when it’s clear she’s just a mom… nobody else got searched and there were like 20 people waiting to go back. But I think what ppl are talking about is aggregate experiences, meaning on average how are people treated in this country. I know the country in a whole has a reputation of being extremely racist to gypsies, but as many many people say, black Americans often (qualified statement since not ALL do) enjoy Italy.
I know I'm a black man with a slightly different experience, but I was in a city in Italy once and I went to the open air cafe where everyone stared at and pointing at me like I was an alien. Such ignorance doesn't bother me because I always see such people as ignorant. I sat down to have a coffee and everyone kept staring at me and a family sitting across were especially rude when I saw the father say something to his kid and pointed at me. I brought out my phone and pretended to be making a phone call as I stared back at them and pointing back at them as well. I can sometimes be petty like that to make a point in such a situation 😂😂😂
I am a black Cuban Puerto Rican American. I am clearly of African descent, not racially ambiguous by any means. I have lived in Rome for over a decade. I am married to an Italian, a Roman Sicilian. I have had one horrible overtly racist experience when the Fascist government came into power. Before that, Italy was a wonderful breath of fresh air, where I was able to escape American RACISM. People were warm and welcoming. I met the most wonderful man in the world, married him and had my children. His family loves me as if I were their own child. My mother in law told my husband if he ever made me cry she would "curse him with the evil eye"😂 Italy is a wild card. The North like Tuscany, Bologna especially Milano is so RACIST and scary, it seems like Nazi Germany. Yet in the South where everyone is more brown the people are warm and helpful kind of seeing you as similar as them. We left Italy for awhile during the height of the Fascist regime. I had a horrible experience with a deranged racist man, so we went to Spain. We came back to Rome and it's back to the place I love ❤️
“I don’t like being “othered” by other people of colour.” Facts 💯💯💯 Im black and born in Canada and let me tell you... some other ethnicities here play that game too coming from their country. The gag is, how are you in a foreign country being racist to black people born in that foreign country you want to be a citizen of? It’s a global issue for black people but there are still a lot of beautiful places and people.
That’s very true. One lady in the video spoke of Italian’s; well in my Cdn city, they don’t like anyone who is not Italian and always talk about how Italy is the best yet no plans to return. It’s very odd.
In my travels to mexico, I noticed white Americans who owned property there or lived there were still racist towards the Mexicans and still only wanted to be amongst white expats. WTF are they living there then?
I shared this to my sister who lives in France. She's been keeping me updated about her experience and she says the black apprehension is deep. I appreciate this challenge for sharing such things.
Some places are giving beautiful. But it’s a different kind of feel for that to not attract me. I always thought China is just for their own culture and overdone
Oh my God, I witnessed the attitude towards Africans when I was in Rome. The Italians were so sweet when they realized I'm an American. Terrible, they were horrible towards Africans.

That's strange; when my wife and I went to Vatican City to see the Pope once inside St. Peter's its all young, black, bald headed brothers, suits and bow ties acting as both guides and security. The only Swiss Guards I met was a rude Swiss guardsman when I asked him a question; the brothers were pretty cool and the Italian people are cool.

I've learned that if you're going to an OVERLY homogeneous city or town, travel with a group if you can. People are less likely to target you if they see you're a foreigner in a group. It sucks, but that's the world we live in.
Your words "in their own country":............ I was born in pennsylvania, have never been to Asia and can only speak English and French that I learned in school, so you look at Asian-Americans and say "their country?" Didn't you know America is a melting pot and if blonde hair blue eyes w.a.s.p.-appearing people never are assumed to have any tie to Sweden, Germany, Poland, whatever European country, then that assumption shouldn't be projected onto other Americans just because they're not white.
I just stick to African countries. Best time of my life and I traveled solo as a Black woman. East, West, and South. Africa is so overwhelming amazing.
Do you fight FGM in those countries? If you don’t, then please do. Also kick planned parenthood hood out of Africa and kick the Chinese government out of Africa. Look up Obianuju Ekeocha for articles about Biden pushing planned parenthood and abortion into Africa. Obianuju fights for life of all unborn lives
The disdain is Africans migrating to their Country. Meanwhile millions of Italians are immigrants in our Country. You should certainly relish in your American privilege and use it to your advantage.
@Wendy Greene .......there are many stories of nigerians in italy , doing things that they should not . it is said " ANY " black woman can't walk down the street there , due to the nigerian women's " antics " . it is also known , that they try to pass themselves off as black americans , to get better treatment . if black americans enjoy privilege abroad , it is because they have earned it . if you don't like it ....stay home.........
You are so right about Australia. It's a relief to hear somebody come out and say it openly. Australia has always gotten away with murder, figuratively and literally.
It's a relief to hear someone come out and say you know why you relieved because it gives you permission to be a bigoted f****** s*** that's why you feel relieved because your Harbour in prejudice and someone else's express it now you have permission well guess what this Aussie ain't giving you permission you cannot make generalisations about my entire nation because someone has mentioned the s*** f****** experience and assigned it to a reason of skin colour probably because they're f****** obsessed with his skin colour and not their true root of their problems and that's it they are a fuckwhit
This perspective is spot-on for Australia. While I was working there, in 10 different cities all over the country, I personally had a fantastic time as an American black woman. But, the racism is very open and very blunt whenever the topic came to the Australian Aborigines. It shocked me to be treated so differently from a fellow black person (as opposed to the white American nationalists outright hate of everyone of colour, lumped together).
I’m Australian. Trust me, Australians like to think they’re multicultural but it’s a backhanded slap because they’ll pass off racism like a joke then blame you for taking it too seriously. Very much banter but listen carefully to the joke. It ain’t right. You can tell it’s what they really think deep down.
@Primordial Illuminate Perhaps that's it. There's nothing in my spirit that gets stirred up to wanna go to those places. Now Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados that's a different story.
I have an idea! When you meet shop-keepers with racist view take a picture of the store and post how awful they were. Maybe there should be a black woman's Yelp page for foreign travel.
@@superfly3990 are you being serious rn ?…theft ? Because they’re black they automatically think “thief” wtf typa mentality is that ? There’s thieves in every nationality or race
@@superfly3990 Your comment is very rude & very hurtful, to people of African ancestry Sir. My goodness, ignorance & hypocrisy helps no one whatsoever. This is not about being a thief, but simply about outright racism. Are you seriously suggesting, that ALL people of colour are thieves & thugs & that all these Caucasian/European shopkeepers, have the right to treat people of African ancestry poorly & suspiciously?! All these people are prejudging, without any proof whatsoever. Your comment may well be perceived by many, as being naive & racist. Here's the absolute truth & fact.....There are good & bad people within EVERY ethnic group on planet earth. NO, not all people of colour are thieves, drug addicts & thugs & in fact, most are not! This is absolute fallacy, made up by those who fear people of colour & for what good reason?! Actually, there is none, bec it all stems back to European colonization & the ensuing oppression & abuse of people of colour, @ pretty much every level of society. In the America's specifically, it's been this way ever since European colonization & slavery. Ie: Slavery & the issues surrounding people of colour, have never ended since that period in history. Being so called "white" doesn't exempt a human being from being a gambler, an alcoholic, a drug addict, a murderer, a thief, a rapist, a paedophile, etc; etc;. If anyone suggests otherwise, they're only fooling themselves, bec open minded, smart & educated people do know the truth. I'm not African, but i know the truth. The truth is racism & racism & fear at the heart of racist ideologies, are what make people say/do horrible & cruel things about/to people of African ancestry. Fun fact.......There are many more Caucasian criminals within the US alone, but you just don't hear about it in the media & that, doesn't happen by sheer accident. The poisonous & toxic media & many news channels, will intentionally focus on all things black sadly & all so called bad things that they've done, but often, it's not always true. Check out Michael Moore, Bill Burr, AKALA, Jane Elliott & Dr Robin Di Angelo, just for starters, to see what they have to say, regarding race & racial inequality, etc;. It's all very interesting, but most importantly, very true. The issue is, we must stop deluding ourselves & living within our own wee bubbles & become more open minded to fairness & equality. We do this by self education, by watching countless uploads, by travelling, etc;. By meeting people from all continents & coming to the absolute realisation, that most of our beliefs were/are incorrect. I encourage people to watch countless videos/vlogs, whereby Caucasian people travel to other countries within Asia, Africa, the Middle East etc;. We quickly come to see/realise, that the accused, are no different to anyone else on this planet & that we're all much more "similar" than we are "different" & not all of these so called "dangerous" people are really dangerous. We all share 99.9% of our dna & as my European Grandmother used to say often, we are all human, we all have red blood running through our veins, we all share common dna, we all share this one fragile planet together & there's only one REAL critically troublesome separator. It's the divide between white & black. But here's the thing.....There's a real & true science behind skin shades & the way we all look on the outer. The hot sun shines down across Africa & it's to be expected & is very natural, that many African people will be darker to much darker in skin shade, as Mother Nature has provided them with natural pigmentation, which in turn, protects their skin from the deadly UV rays. I know of many Caucasian people, who have very dark skin, bec they've lived within many hot/sunny global regions. Their paler skin started to build darker pigmentation, to protect them from skin cancer. When we educate ourselves about everything & we are more open minded, fair & logical in our personal reasoning/understanding, we can begin to break down serious racial barriers. If we haven't tried doing this, there's always a first time & it's never too late to try.
I travel alone as well. A surprising place missed was Bermuda. I was stopped and detained in the airport for having too much money for a young brown girl (well under the 10k you’re allowed to travel with). They told me I looked too young to be my age and that I could not possibly have the career I stated I had. They called my employers to confirm I worked there. They detailed me the either day and placed me in hand cuffs as they took me to a hospital to confirm I wasn’t a drug mule only to drop me off at my hotel later that night without an apology. I later found out I wasn’t even arrested yet they placed me in cuffs. I was informed later that brown girls who travel alone to Bermuda are targeted in customs often. It’s different if you travel with a group or with a man.
I'm so sorry that you experienced that. I hope you are OK. DID YOU seek retribution? This mistreatment and abuse does not bode well for the tourism industry
Wonderfully laid out. My dark skin male friend was treated horribly in Milan until he spoke English and they realized he was American. He said they are horribly cruel to Africans.
When I noticed this vlog was an hour long. I rolled my eyes. Thinking it would be filled with unprofessional phumphing ,and redundant information. Was I wrong! By its' end, I was sad the episode was over. This was fast moving, informative and entertaining. You have a new subscriber! I want more!
This was VERY cool and informative as far as women collaborating to help/warn others. I do appreciate the fact that you were objective in regards to treatment/ experience. Very empowering and I respect the women who traveled on their own! Thank you so much for this!
My friend shared a out her experience in India. She checked into her hotel with her male colleague. She said about 30 minutes after she entered her room, she heard a knock on the door. She was alone in her room. She said they continued to knock on the door and she refused to answer. She called her colleague to check out what was happening. He said 5 men were outside of her door. They finally left and she stayed in her colleague's room.
If you're black and are wanting to visit Asia, I'd recommend the Philippines. I run into black international travellers there off and on who seem happy to be there, and I don't think Filipinos in general have a bad attitude about people of African ancestry. There is a cultural preference for lighter skin as a sign of beauty, but it is not the same as active racism aimed at darker skin people. The Philippines itself has seen a lot of cultures come and go, and mixed race people ("mestizos") there have been part of the culture for a long time. Honestly, they have some of the best beaches in the world, some lovely mountains, and, if you're into it, some very interesting historical sites.
@@StephaniePerry I'm really pleased to hear that. My wife's Filipina, and I've spent a fair amount of time in the country and have a high opinion of the people there in general. It has its problems, but what place doesn't?
I am Jamaican and I traveled to Morocco with my daughter and I really can't say that we were treated badly. Going through the Medina was somewhat intimidating only because the peddlers were very insistent to get us to buy their stuff. I had braids in and some people were calling out to us "Obama" we love Obama! We went to Fez, Merrikesh, Casa Blanca and our trip was great...except I didn't like the food. It's always a good thing to research the places and culture of the people. You should also learn a few words of their language. There are some countries that single women should never travel alone. Also, small towns are never a good idea for blacks in any country, not even in the U.S.
🇯🇲 As Jamaicans I’m gonna say we are generally more assertive and certainly not naive and we do not assume a sense of privilege hence we are not surprised when met with negativity. And I can truly say that as a world traveler.
I listened to their experiences about racism abroad. It is so infuriating and ridiculous that they have to deal with so much bs just for their skin color. People who discriminate are plain sad. And I’m disappointed to hear that they find that they are treated much better in other countries than they are at home in the US. So many of my inspirational role models and teachers throughout life happen to be black women. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Much respect to you for keeping your head held high and making this world a far better place. Much much respect to these women.
Judging from how they act in the U S, would never have me wanting to go there. And someone said it was like they have a handbook, I’ve often said when they come to the U S, they are handed a handbook. Other than that I just caulked them up as being rude people.
It was never on my list either but when Groupon had a $599 special for 8 days; I had to jump on it. No regrets as the Great Wall was worth the hassle; however I will not return to China. Everything these ladies said were true about China.

Im south African but you will be shocked to hear the only time I experienced racial slurs/stares was outside of Africa. My recent trip to Italy was memorable because we were made to feel like we about to steal something, they do not speak to you. Completely ignored us. We decided to leave italy a week early cause it was soooo uncomfortable. At the airport, we were sitting outside ciapino ( I think thats how it spelled), the police were circling only the people of colour and not the rowdy group of white kids that were clearly intoxicated. They were rude when we asked a question compared to how they conversed with our non black friends. Italy is not a country I'll visit anytime soon

As a woman if I am walking anywhere after hours, hearing footsteps too close behind me is alarming regardless of the color of the person. And for the record, that quote was Jackson speaking to a black audience about gang violence in black neighborhoods. Crime perpetrated by black people definitely exists, but it is harmful to use it as a deflection when black people assert that they have been treated unfairly by non-black people, or are victimized by non-black people. The spectre of the black criminal and crime statistics does not and should not give others carte blanche to profile and surveil every black person they see.
@@GrayzoneGab you are right but unfortunately people's perceptions and fears are affected by the high stats of crime rates, especially those in Asian countries who may never have or rarely encounter Africans. The recent attacks on Asians and BLM attacking Asian stores hasnt helped. I've had similar experience in New Delhi, while I was there I also noticed that they would ALWAYS attend to my white friends and colleagues first and me last.... Generally speaking, as black person when a non black person acts ignorantly towards me in a physical way like pointing, moving away from me or clutching their bags, I immediately flip it around and act in exactly the same way towards them. Yes I'm petty like that, lol and I love doing it to them! 🤣 For instance, I stepped into an elevator once and there was this white woman, who immediately shifted her hand bag to the opposite side, away from me and held tight to it. Luckily I had a bag with me as well. I did exactly the same thing, exaggerated it while muttering the words "OMG!" I deliberately acted uncomfortable like this woman was going to jump me and when the doors opened, I couldn't get out fast enough 🤣🤣🤣 The embarrassed look on that woman's face that day is one that still makes me laugh every time I remember it. I think I mentioned this next incident on one of your videos, or perhaps this one when I first watched it, forgive me for repeating myself... I was by myself once in some beautiful outside caffe in Italy and a family sitting close by kept staring at me, rudely pointing at me and speaking Italian. So, I brought out my phone, pretended to Facetime someone and I kept looking back at this family and pointing back at them as well🤣🤣🤣

I can never forget that on my first day on safari I counted 30 entirely distinct species of animals. 2007 I visited Ghana and I paid more attention to the lives of the people and their histories. Both countries were exceptional. I live in the Caribbean which has its easy-going charms, little in the way of wild animals, but great sea life.

You are 100% correct! That’s just common sense to me.
The people are so nice, but you have to know someone!!! Then you’ll be treated as family!!
So true..the men will follow you and making all kind of sound...You have to have a male with you at all time...
My friend goes alone a lot and loves it
Shes darkskin and said its fun
Stick to countries where you blend in! Don't spend a dime in any county that treats us like shit!
There is No blending in ....when YOU... don’t share, same religion, language or Culture, plus a Women’s elevation or de elevation is determined by their own MEN First. 👈
Unfortunately, BM in all Cultures have not set good examples of RESPECT for their own women so traveling abroad expecting (foreigners) to offer YOU want your own Race or Tribe 👈 has denied YOU is very unrealistic.
Including America😏

@@laceylocket1 Patriarchy and classism
As a South African I know what you are talking about... The workers say white people pay better so they rather serve them first
True
And yup Gambians are nice
I've seen the same in Jamaica. They bent over backwards to appease the white customers. Although they weren't rude to me or my husband, they treated us like you would family and the white people were guests.
"Most notably South Africa, Botswana and Cameroon, I’ve had wait staff and hotel clerks pass me over to attend to white customers."-don't be surprized about this experience in any black country that you travel to. Unfortunately, there are black people in this world with a colonized mind.
Travelling in India alone as a women ( whatever your colour skin) is not the best thing , period!
Right about that traveling alone to India it’s No No!!

China has its own culture and pointing at someone who looks different than their neighbors is not hostility or aggression.

In Maroko they seem to have an obsession with blonde children, they have some themselves, but that's very rare... there's a myth that stroking blonde children on the head brings good luck...

I definately noticed the blatant disrespect I received from Chinese travelers at Ichion airport as well as in Thailand. At our resort in Thailand, we had several Chinese women pointing and staring. I hate hearing stories of how other countries treat Africans who go there in search of opportunities when those same countries plundered and got rich off our continent smfh
And it's still going on with African countries continuing to export raw materials instead of processing materials locally and exporting processed product which sells at a higher price. (Ghana said they will stop exporting raw cocoa beans, the Swiss representatives in the room looked like they were going to cry th-cam.com/video/DbvocKxDtSc/w-d-xo.html. Meanwhile, Kenya places much higher taxes on exports of processed coffee beans than raw coffee beans, the opposite of what you should do if you want to increase earnings from exports and increase employment. )
its not really the case. genuine opportunity seekers from Africa are now overrun by criminal opportunists from Africa. its an unfortunate situation for all, especially the genuine and decent African civilians in southern europe.
If we realise our strength and power, we would unite and be a force to reckon with.

It’s true what the woman said about Italy. If they think you’re African absolutely they treat you poorly. But if you’re African American, they “love” you. 😑🥴
Its very true as a half Italian
There are a lot of videos on TH-cam and Tik Tok of black American tourists who suffered racism when they were in Italy, they told that Italians knew they were Americans.
@@brianlawson4368 yeah…. There are a lot of different reasons people get treated different ways. It’s not as simple as one aspect. I definitely oversimplified my comment (as this is the interwebs). 99% of the 30 or so black women I personally know who’ve been to Italy had an experience similar to mine. But a couple had a hard time. In general, being a “glamorous “ American is a “benefit”. But look at Oprah, when she’s in Europe she’s often treated badly…. She “looks” African. I am extremely light skinned with a red Afro… I get treated *very well. It’s not a compliment to me, tho… it’s still based on inherent racism. If I am treated like a start but Oprah, an actual superstar is treated poorly, we are still talking about the same problems of racialization. There’s also just random interactions people have that can be nationally based… America is not super popular right now… I’m in Europe several times a year for the past 25 years and I’ve seen a shift in how people react to my nationality over time. Anyway… this is a book at this point. I don’t negate anyone’s lived experiences
@@littlehouseinthebigapple5716 I was talking about Italy in particular not Europe in general. I'm black and I've been in France, England, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal and I had a great time in these places, no problem at all. I know other black Americans who visited these countries and they also had no problem at all but they were victims of racist episodes when they visited Italy, especially Rome.

Yikes! Did you think about making a complaint or wasn't it worth it?
Did you sue?
😮
I'm so sorry that you experienced that. I hope you are OK. DID YOU seek retribution? This mistreatment and abuse does not bode well for the tourism industry
Wonderfully laid out. My dark skin male friend was treated horribly in Milan until he spoke English and they realized he was American. He said they are horribly cruel to Africans.
I truly believe Jesus must have been a BLACK man.

Yes, this is beautiful, highly informative, easy to follow video!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!:
Ha! Ann Marie is telling a true story! I am her friend who had no money! They played themselves that day!!!
That's terrifying!!! I'm so glad that her colleague was there to help her. . . What in the world?!
That's the scariest thing I have ever heard! I'm so glad she is ok and did NOT open the door.

I have heard that it is not safe for any woman to travel alone in India. Lot of raping foreign women going on over there.
I literally watched a video of that, it was a white woman though.
I agree with you 100% Julian. I loved the time I spent in the Philippines. 💗

AGREED
👍🏿 yep yep
I have lived, studied and worked in Casablanca and I have not experienced racism
🇯🇲 As Jamaicans I’m gonna say we are generally more assertive and certainly not naive and we do not assume a sense of privilege hence we are not surprised when met with negativity. And I can truly say that as a world traveler.
@@nelsonchinyanta1889 because you're a man.
China has never been on my list and definitely will never be! I’m okay with it.
Same!!
I've been to China but with a group so not sure how this is would be if I was traveling solo.
Pleasant experience I actually found the locals docile. I was in the south.
Hong Kong was cool. It was just like any large city. Great shopping.
@@attilathehun8115 Okay but has an African country wrongfully kicked out Asians because of the virus? No. Yall are just as racist if not more than whites 🙄
" There is nothing more painful for me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start to think about robbery and then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved." The Reverend Jesse Jackson
Italians are mostly ignorant but once you speak their language, they are afraid or careful not to offend you.
Never go back but in the meantime don't think they're doing you something God is the one who make you not your mother or father so don't feel no way you were wonderful and perfectly made you're beautiful in God sights don't worry about those racist losers
@@blesseddc5093 i used to think male privilege was a myth until reading this nonsense.
Am not saying it is the right way to tnink but am making the point that it is not because they dislike the skin colour of Africans, in most cases, but rather what they perceive them to be like
I've had similar experience in New Delhi, while I was there I also noticed that they would ALWAYS attend to my white friends and colleagues first and me last.... Generally speaking, as black person when a non black person acts ignorantly towards me in a physical way like pointing, moving away from me or clutching their bags, I immediately flip it around and act in exactly the same way towards them. Yes I'm petty like that, lol and I love doing it to them! 🤣
For instance, I stepped into an elevator once and there was this white woman, who immediately shifted her hand bag to the opposite side, away from me and held tight to it.
So, I brought out my phone, pretended to Facetime someone and I kept looking back at this family and pointing back at them as well🤣🤣🤣
Lmao!!!
Ok this made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣 I might try this next time🤞
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is soo hilarious

- Kuwait was mentioned, but the woman said it was because she didn’t like her job. 😵

- Australians are racist (period, Pooh) 🤷🏾♀️
- Majority of the women here were indeed travelers and had not lived in the areas. However, there were some who had stayed longer than a few days (the host) or who had frequently returned to certain places (women who spoke about Italy) 😊

As an Egyptian I can say this is sadly very true and much worse than what was described in this video since she spent most of her time here in Sharm Al Sheikh , which a holiday destination that pretty much only has expats and rich Egyptians so it isn't really representative of the rest of Egypt. I would never recommend for a solo female traveller to visit Egypt, regardless of race. There is also a lot of internalised racism and you will find many of the lighter skinned Egyptians and Arabs are indeed very racist towards their darker skinned counterparts, and there is no shortage of horror stories from Sudanese refugees. I hated Australia. The Microagression was through the roof. I studied in Melbourne and worked at Ashley and Martin hair clinic. On a surface level it was ok. However, if you had to interact with anyone they would let you have it! "Yo!", "Are you a gangster?", "how much", "why do you like champagne thrown on your head?" I have a black friend who was actually born and raised in Australia (shocker!) She is now raising two black daughters now and I don't know how they do it. If I have to deal with racism I'd prefer to do in a country where there are more black people to build community with. Go to Kenya. I went in 1992 with my wife and son and if you have any interest in the lives of other societies and also in animals Kenya was superlative. At each hotel and safari lodge we will engage the help to understand what their lives were like and they were open with us about the good and the bad. The wild life was astounding.
