When I found myself pregnant at 16 years old, my pastor decided to preach a sermon on fornication and how I was going to go to hell when I died. I was so embarrassed, and I wish I had been mature enough to walk out. In adulthood, I avoid churches and religion whenever possible. It was a traumatic experience.

@Steven bent1 If you would objectively take the time to study and understand the Bible, you would find out that everything you mention has been addressed over the centuries, and shown that there are no discrepancies whatsoever in the Bible. The most evil people on the planet have still never been able to disprove God's True Word, the Holy Bible. Anyone who isn't already biased and prejudiced in their heart about knowing God's truth will be able to "see" and understand God's message, but, those who in actuality refuse God's free plan of salvation have hearts that are against God. Bottom line....it is all true, all of the Bible is true, because there can only be true justice for evil men by the Almighty God's final judgement, where the good will receive their reward and the evil will receive eternal punishment. It's so very clear. As for me, I choose life through Christ, and we all have free will to make our own choice. It's actually a "no-brainer"; and of course, I have nothing to lose, and you have EVERYTHING to lose. Cheers.

Hate speech and violence from either side is totally abhorrent. Australians are about to vote in a Plebiscite s/s marriage. here is my assessment of both sides.
The “no” campaign is fighting a losing battle trying to offer history and procreation as reasons for keeping the traditional definition of marriage. The homosexual lobby has been very clever to paint religion as the enemy of equal rights, anti-discrimination, free speech and progress. But of course statistics reveal love and long term commitment are hardly the defining tenets of a homosexual lifestyle.
Under a multi-coloured rainbow banner, the YES campaigners chant “We should be able to marry whoever we want.” which has apparently won over a gullible public not wanting to be seen as discriminatory or "homophobic'. The same statistics prove that the real enemy of SSM is not religion but nature and their own reckless lifestyle in their constant need for sexual gratification with strangers not in the 10s but literary in the several 100s. (Bell and Weinberg)
SSM is really a dangerous slippery slope, opening the door for any individual, religious sect or ethnic group to press for acceptance of polygamy, underage brides, incest and/or even bestiality. The claim that such activities are the product of one’s genetic makeup would surely be denied by courts. Evolution by natural selection would necessarily have bred out the 'homosexual gene' over 1000s of generations because it would not lead to procreation.
In reality the homophiles represents about 2-3% of the population but in the UK and especially the US, those actually embracing marriage is insignificant if not irrelevant to the debate (see Pew Research). More than 50% of homosexuals claim to have had 500-1000 partners, 80% of whom were with total strangers. Clearly It is not about marriage or equality but their need for us to condone and ‘normalise a promiscuous lifestyle that deep down their conscience tells them is destructive. Studies by NHIS reveal increased depression, mental ill-health, STDs, suicide, domestic violence and even child abuse.
There are alarming Educational & social implications if s/s marriage is legalized. Despite claims to the contrary, governments cannot legislate to protect from abuse, the rights of churches, schools, individuals or businesses who withhold or refuse homosexuals’ demands. Those who advocate for the ‘no’ vote have already been vilified and threatened on social media. In the UK a private schools were threatened with closure if they didn’t include same sex education in its curriculum. Even worst outcomes are being realized in US States like Massachusetts where a parent was arrested for wanting to exclude his child from such indoctrination. That says it all, doesn't it? And all this goes on under the farce of anti-discrimination and "marriage equality". If the implications for families weren't so tragic, it would be laughable.

So much respect for your strength. I went to a Christian school for 13 years, I sat through bible class after bible class hearing homophobic messages. One of my biggest regrets now is that I didn’t walk out. The one that hurts the most is when we had to put anonymous colour coded stickers to say if we agreed with certain topics. One of them had the words “Gay people deserve respect.” It wasn’t about gay marriage, it wasn’t about gay people being parents, hell, it wasn’t even about if being gay is a sin. It was literally if they deserve basic fucking respect. Over half of the stickers on that one were red. I had never feared so much, or felt so hated as in that moment. I was still very much in the closet at that point, and my heart sunk so low. I wish now that I would have grabbed that piece of paper and marched down to the principals office with it, that I would have done something. Instead now there’s class after class, with people in them feeling the same fear I felt. I wish so much I would have had the strength to walk out like you did.

It's stupid ass questions like this that divided up humanity with manipulation and intimidation then have the nerve to ask, why do they look demasculinized(intimidated) and manipulated. When I was 15 I sat through a sermon addressing the legalization of gay marriage in America. At the time I had not accepted that I was gay but deep down I knew that I was. I wanted so badly to walk out or say something but I was with my family and it was a small church and I didn’t have the courage. So I just sat and listened to how the sanctity of marriage was ruined and how people like me would end up in hell. It was horrible and many other situations like that have deterred me from going to church even though I’m still a Christian. It’s terrible that people will use religion, something that’s supposed to help people, in order to further their own hatred and bigotry.

Well when I see the words "I dare you' with several exclamation points and in all caps, I find it quite immature. This kind of grammar school persuasion is hardly appropriate within mature conversations. What I find almost laughable is that the article that you "dare" me to read, is dated from 1988. My question to you is, why are you citing a piece of writing that is almost 30 years old? Also I find it intriguing that you responded to my comment, instead of merely posting your opinion.
In addition, you write that you "know dozens of musicians, none of which..." The correct grammar is "none of whom". When arguments are presented in writing and contain grammatical mistakes, it automatically reduces the apparent validity of the person writing the argument.
I think the dare at this point would be for you to update what you are reading. No, yours is not a hate comment, but citing an opposing view that was written more than a quarter of a century is ago is hardly relevant to this discussion.
In addition, the author that you dared me to read, I will point out "left the Episcopal Church in part due to their opposition to the evangelizing of Jews." So clearly, he had more purpose in his actions than merely speaking against sexual minorities.
Thank you for contributing your musical talent to your church.

My mom was sitting there shocked at such hatred.

This happened to me many years ago. I was (and still am) organist of a small Episcopal church in SW Oklahoma. We had a new priest just beginning his tenure with us, and the second Sunday he was there, he got into the pulpit -- looked me straight in the eye and said: "I have personally cured 4 homosexuals!" I was dumfounded, and had a very hard time keeping myself from throwing a hymnbook at him across the choir. Luckily I didn't -- it was nearing Christmas, and we had a very nice Christmas concert planned for the next Sunday. After service, I told the senior warded that I would be leaving right after Christmas. Evidently the word got out, and the new priest offered his resignation right after that. That was over 30 years ago, and I'm still there, love the congregation, and they evidently like me and my work. However, to hear such remarks in such a setting is one of the most hateful experiences anyone can be put through.

Here`s the thing.. You can´t pick and choose what you accept from the Bible and what you don´t. The Bible teaches that All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.. It also teaches that having sex with another man as with a woman is an abomination. If we as believers do not call out homosexuality as sin then we are not loving people. Christians should love the sinner but hate the sin. This guy really started off on the wrong foot when he called playing at the Church service "performing". It is not a performance. The role of the organist is to lead or to assist in leading the praise and worship. It is a ministry. As for going where he feels accepted then the Bible talks about people only being prepared to listen to what their ears are itching to hear.

Comments like this is are why I don't believe in organized religion. That said, so the CREATOR made a mistake? If not he is living his life the way it was meant to be. You can't have it both ways. Either you decide that he was made the way he is suppose to be or a mistake was made. The mind, as I see it would be part of the creation. Decisions are made in the mind. People may not make the best decisions. But perhaps a chain of events was planned all along and that is the reason why some "sinful" decisions are made. Maybe they were planned to lead to something positive for someone or something else down the line.

The easiest explanation is that God doesn't exist, therefore nobody should go to any churches, because they're all bullshit.
You know how many holy books there are in the world? How many religions? How many different interpretations of the afterlife? Just because a religion is big (like Christianity and Islam) doesn't make it right, it just makes them better at conversion. Any of them could be true or false. So going to a church that says something that conflicts with core beliefs we have about humanity and justice, therefore, is not a good thing to support.
If you're going to convince yourself a magical person in the sky exists and has an afterlife in wait for the "good" people, you might as well find one of those Gods who loves and accepts you for who you are, rather than a God that will arbitrarily send you into hellfire for falling in love with the wrong person.

Another thought: The trouble actually begins with misinterpreted and misunderstood text. The Leviticus and Deuteronomy laws often go against God's original Ten. Later on in history, Christ would always ALWAYS support the Ten while at the same time refuting the lame Levit and Deut TRIBAL laws. Those laws were manmade, never dictated by the Most High. Christ even clarified this point in one of the discussions with the disciples. (Matthew quote below)
Another problem is the 1978 announcement by the Evangelicals that the entire Bible should be considered to be 100% "INERRANT" and "God-breathed" or "inspired." Not so. And they only have the Apostle Paul's own letters to correct that misnomer as he OFTEN wrote that he was writing while being "not of the spirit" or "not inspired," etc etc. He honorably declared to those to whom he had addressed his letters, using the honest truth.
More on how Paul refutes supposed biblical "Inerrancy" -
Paul in an epistle writes: "I give my advice" (2 Cor. 8:8-10). That's not constant inspiration. Secondly, Paul quotes Scripture, and says the Lord gives that command, but "the rest is from me, not from the Lord" (1 Cor. 7:10-12). The latter is certainly not inspired. Paul says elsewhere "what I am going to say now is not prompted by the Lord but from a fit of folly" (2 Cor. 11:17).
There are more examples, but I think I've offered enough for now.
Back to what Christ says about Moses.
    Matthew 19:7-8
7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
HARD HEARTS caused the men of the earliest wanderings as a tribe to go against God's original Ten in more ways than one.
Moses' followers had suffered many times over and had often gone against God's original Ten during the wandering years. Many had lost family members to enemy attacks along the way. Most had been abused at some time during their years in captivity in Egypt. PTSD can make people hard hearted. Suffering can also make ppl unhappy to the point of loss of feeling for others.
So you see, what happened during the Leviticus era is not at all what we are to continue on with today. Jesus made that clear with his radical views on the treatment of women, children and outsiders like the Samaritans (parable of The good Samaritan, plus his going out of his way and off the normally travelled route for most Jews then, in order to meet with the Woman of Samaria.)
In the case mentioned in the video above, that minister forgot that Christ's words + God's original Ten supersede all of the tribal stuff.
If you are interested, I have some thoughts to share as regards the Tribal nomadic cleanliness laws of the Old Testament as well.

    • @williambunter3311
      @williambunter3311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Ros McGuinn; Your comment is disingenuous. Paul did not 'OFTEN' write about things not directly taught in the Scriptures, but once or twice only. And he certainly didn't say he was writing anything contrary to the scriptures Paul was taught personally by the risen Lord for a long period of time, thus his pronouncements have all the weight of Christ's teaching behind them. He was not merely offering his opinions, but extrapolating in the power of the Spirit what he learned from Christ himself. Paul was given the task of unfolding the mystery of the church, the body of Christ, which comprised Jewish and non-Jewish believers together equally. This was not known in the days of the Old Testament.
Paul did not say homosexuality was acceptable - in fact he said just the opposite, as you know full well. And who said we should live according to the O.T. laws of Moses anyway? You're knocking down a straw man! We live under grace, not under the law of Moses which was given to Israel only.. And homosexual acts are as sinful in the present dispensation of grace as they were under the dispensation of Law.
You are confused, Ros, and clearly you are trying to digest strong meats before you have been sufficiently weaned by the New Testament milk. What you call 'tribal stuff' is no less the word of God than the ten commandments. The social laws and the ceremonial laws were just as much from Jehovah as the ten commandments were. It is true that the Jewish rabbis and scholars added many new laws, over the centuries, to those given to Moses, but don't get confused into denying what God has given. it wasn't because of what the rabbis said that Paul preached against homosexuality, but because of what God has said.
