Me too, although I wish we got to see as much of Dread Persephone as we got to see of mommy venure Persephone in the game. Seriously, the scythe was originally an agricultural tool so it's not a stretch to say that Thanatos got his scythe after seeing how badass Persephone was using hers.

@@marvinkem3201 when zagreus mentions the sun , you can stand and watch the sun rise over the ocean, but the person in video didn’t look at it, they went to the fish instead lol
When I played this, I started crying when he said "That thing, that's the sun?" The voice acting was so good there. It hadn't occurred to me that our guy Zag had never seen the sun, that he'd be seeing it for the first time. All the dead have seen the sun, and most of the gods and incarnates. This is the moment where we really get to see what it actually means to be born and raised and trapped in the Underworld. The way the line is delivered conveys genuine wonder. You can hear it in the voice that he's trying to understand what he's seeing, only knowing it from being told about it. It's such a simple thing but for me it packed an emotional punch.
I love that, unlike in most modern Greek myth stories, Persephone isn’t a naive young girl. She’s a wise, powerful, mature woman and it’s easy to see why she’s regarded so highly as a goddess.
I've always thought that she started naive, like all young people, but became wise, powerful, and mature over time. The original myth seems to suggest such development. Most modern retellings are set earlier, but the few that I've seen set later depict her as a mother, wife, and queen not to be trifled with, on her own merits.
It is seriously masterful for such a bittersweet ending to STILL make all the hell of making it to this point worth it. You could technically stop playing at this point and it would be such a great Greek tragedy, but I'm glad the game lets us go further.
Spoilers: To go even further, I'm glad the game gives you the option to reverse many Greek tragedies if you put the time into the game. Persephone finally agrees to go back to the Underworld after ten successful attempts, reuniting the Hades family. Zagreus can change Orpheus' contract to Hades to allow him to reunite with his wife, Eurydice. He can also alter Achilles' contract so he could reunite him with his lover, Patroclus. He can convince Megara and the other Furies to go easier on Sisyphus, who has long repented from his whole cheating Death trick (plus giving Thanatos time to forgive him, too.) He can convince Chaos and Nyx to start speaking with each other again after centuries of silence. He can get Hypnos and Thanatos to finally get along. He can make Dusa feel less like a servant and more a member of the family. Most importantly, Zagreus can reconcile the past relationships he had Meg, Than, and even his father Hades, getting his own closure after their cold and aggressive start. It's honestly details like that that make this the best rogue-like I've ever played, hands down.
It's really amazing how the game gives you several points that feel conclusive yet it finds a continuation to the story. Not that they don't give you incentive to keep playing
I had yet to get this far, but I can imagine the genuine outrage a person must feel after beating hades and getting this far. Like playing the original ghosts and goblins and having to restart for the true final boss.
Can't speak for everyone, but after struggling to pass the final area, I didn't think it would be worth it, but it totally was. It's a beautiful and tragic, like a Greek, er tragedy. If the game just stopped there, I'd be pretty happy, because it follows its own logic, and it's not just a random sucker punch to give you the finger for your hard work.
Zagreus until this point is killed in so many painful, humiliating, and violent ways. The song that plays here, "On the Coast," is a genuine masterpiece. It plays out your death, but not in the sudden and violent ways you have before. It plays out the desperate sadness of being instead gently whisked away by the Styx. And the way it blends so smoothly into Zagreus' pained last words to his mother is heart wrenching.
Its funny to me...the fates deemed zagreus would die at birth...but as a son of the god of the underworld.... while his living thread was cut...his godly thread was spun
