I read in a translation of Odyssey that Polyphemus was likely a caricature of Sicilians, as he comes from a far off land where they raise livestock instead of farm crops (and a pretty racist one at that given the brutishness 💀) And assuming the devs knew that, that makes the Italian mobster additude a really cool touch
Call me a baby, but honestly that 'everybody slips up once in a while' line at 2:12 was a lil scary. Sure, it's probably just a 'haha look how dumb he is' but like, is he wrong? Greek gods HAVE been eaten canonically... and Imagining melinoe being killed and eaten by this guy was ghastly.
yeah that line unsettles me a lot first time hearing it like how every speedrunners, professional athletes, high profile lawyers will slip up once in a while so does our beloved little melinoe. and one mistake could end her. once is not really 'hard' to come by when you're doing runs after runs after runs.

In the actual story of The Odyssey, Odysseus tells Polyphemus his name (it's how Polyphemus is able to set his curse on Odysseus and his crew) so I think it's just a change Super Giant Games made !!

To be fair there wasn't much to his character in the Odyssey besides "raah I'm gonna eat you, Poseidon is my dad, by the way what's your name oh no my eye oh no my sheep help me brothers" I think they did pretty well with limited source material making him a chill dude but a genuine threat, and the Evil Eye motifs in his character design feel like the most Greek thing I've ever seen in a game tbh

I have to remind myself that Odysseus called himself "Nobody" because the Cyclops told his father, Poseidon, that "Nobody" took his eye.
It was the other cyclopes, not Poseidon. He told Poseidon after Odysseus told him his real name.
