Don't recall him mentioning Achilles and Pat specifically, but he sure as hell schooled a gaggle of shitty snickering boys when a documentary brought up Alexander and Hephaestion's romance! The fucking voice acting in this game is just so good. Just look at the way patroclus' voice shifts after they're reunited, it's so subtle yet sets so impactful. Good voice acting in larger games is always so impressive to me that's so much hard work and effort and my gods do I love this game, and them.
This is one of the things I fell in loce with Hades's lore, THE DIALOGUES. It just fells so, subtle, sensible, how their voices are just trembling with emotion, how Zagreus is just so soft when he cares. The hurt in Achilles voice when he tells about Troy and the end of the war... Dialogues are just making me fall in love with every single character. Except the Olympians aside from Hermes and Artemis (which never actually hang around Olympus and are delightful)

Once Achilles is freed from his contract, the next time we see them together, their sprites are mirrored, they wear almost the same clothes and they have the same spear... My heart...
I'm 2 years late, but the reason why their clothes look almost the same is because Patroclus had died in Achilles' armor, wielding his weapons. They ARE the same clothes and spear. 🥲

It took me so long to realize that both Achilles and Patroclus both don’t really call Zag by his name. Patroclus calling him stranger is brought up in the dialogue but Achilles calling him lad isn’t but is used similarly.
Zag is always so respectful towards the shades he meets. It is very endearing.

Also, I got so angry that no one was willing to bury Patroclus and Achilles together. At least Achilles mother wrote Patroclus' name at the end of the book, and it's implied that the two of them meet each other again in the underworld. But I could be wrong. Ugh, that book hurt me.

Same now Im just dissatisfied that they still refer to Pat as a 'companion' to Achilles and how Achilles son just straight up go against his dad's wish to not bury Pat and Achilles together like an asshole
In the version I read, Patroclos's spirit was able to speak to Thetis, and in the end Thetis said that she did it, she carved his name in the stone next to Achilles, and she said go, he's waiting for you + the last sentence
After finishing the video i said "why did this end so fast?!" then i realized it was 24 mins long. I am definitely not yet done with the story of Achilles and Patroclus. I need a book about their life in Elysium... or death.

I'm a writer and working on it. They're not my main characters, but my protagonist does meet them in the Underworld. They are always together, relaxed, playing music and loving each other. So much so that the protagonist is surprised to hear they were warriors once, to him they were just soft bois cuddling around all the time.

I admit I teared up a little at the first dialogue set. I just imagined the devastating rage he must have felt at hearing about Patroclus' death...damn. For Zag to warn him not to drown his sorrows... You know that all of the world knows of the love Achilles holds and know how it effects him even now.
The fact that Patroclus was so tormented...
Zag holds so much respect for them both. He wants both to find each other and be happy, you can hear it! You can also hear how much he holds Achilles up on a pedestal, not only as a hero but as a person. That's how you know Achilles has had such an impact on his life.

I like how brave the developers were in leaving some of the best dialogue and moments for the end of side endeavors
Love that Patroclus starts standing only when Achilles goes to visit him the first time. The voice acting is top notch, the dialogue... ugh, this is so cute and well done. Kudos

So the thing that just cracks my heart is the way it says “forgotten hero” under Achilles name. He sacrificed the thing that mattered the most to him, his Patroclus, for fame and now he is forgotten
I've done so many runs and for some reason they arent reunited yet and yeah I want to scream
I think I reunited them around 60-ish run, and I took on it since run one: always talking/makings gifts to Achilles and to Patroclus any time I had a chance, they were my priority. So yeah, this quest takes a lot of patience. Keep going and you'll get there! Will see them laughing together in Elysium and interrupt their newfound happiness to get some jerky :>
I might add that after you've maxed both their hearts to the locked one it's just lots of waiting, talking and completing other quests. It does help to release Sisyphus and Orpheus when you can as well.

I somehow got it first try because I finished re reading the Iliad and The Song Of Achilles and I needed some sort of closure when I figured out that they were in love in this game also and I went into pro gamer mode to figure out how to follow the main storyline, but also get these two men together for crying out loud ;D

Ok I'm gonna cry about this (happy tears, don't worry) for a good long while. The voices are so nice. And after reading both, The Robert Fagles translation of Illiad and TSoA, I needed this. Ah the closure is incredible.
I was brought up with the idea that Pat and Achilles were cousins (from the horrible Troy movie). Now, as I grew into adulthood and learned the truth, I'm angry at modern media erasing their love for each other. It's truly bitter-sweet. To see their bond and longing in segments of this game is just so......liberating for them. Thank god this ends in them together even in death. Like this is their real feelings to each other as lovers in a horrible wartime tragedy. I love them and I love this game.

The first version of the Iliad I read took the Troy movie route and censored Patroclus and Achilles as family. I was so surprised in college to read an uncensored version! So glad that a bunch of gamers’ intro to these characters is so thoroughly romantic.

Like I don't mean this horribly but Madeline Miller did not invent patroclus and achilles being in a romantic/sexual relationship. Its been concept since ancient Greece while also being explored and written about at the same time period the Iliad was written. I love song of achilles but she didn't invent the ship its quite literally thousands of years old lol

The writing of this game is so good that each run doesn’t feel like a grind but more like waiting the next dialogue of your fav characters
Oh and after playing this game I bought the audiobook “The songs of Achilles” it’s really good
There are two ways to unlock this side story. This is the Achilles version but here's a little bit of how the Patroclus one goes:
You meet Patroclus and don't who he is. Until one day he asks if we know someone named Achilles down in Tartarus, Zagreus tells him that he will try to remember or ask for him (acting as he doesn't know Achilles), and then mentioning to Achilles that this shade was looking for him, making Achilles tell the story to Zag and sending him to tell Patroclus that he is down there.
I believe the way to get this is not getting enough good relationship with Achilles so he won't tell you his story with Patroclus before you meet him, so you won't know who he is. Or simply to not look at the book to not know Patroclus name.
I got the Patroclus route while playing the game due to the fact that I always give one bottles of the rare nectar that I acquired to Npcs that I encounter on my route in the beginning instead of Npcs that were always at the house. My relationship with Patroclus was, because of that, very more advanced that Achilles.

The writing and voicing of these characters is so damn good.
