    Luckily some of these games are not forgotten, because some of them ended to be featured on Evercade Arcade game compilations. Vendetta was also a very common arcade machine in Italy and some other european countries. Undercover Cops was also converted on Super Nintendo. 😉

    Both Vendetta and Power Instinct were pretty common games in arcades in my city/area (I'm from São Paulo, Brazil). They weren't among the most popular ones but they were not hard to find.
    Power Instinct became a series that, weirdly, Atlus used to change the name in later installments. The second game was Power Instinct 2, then P.I.Legends, then Groove on Fight, then Matrimelee, then Senzo Kuyo (that never got an official English name)

    So many of these games are what I like to call 'laundromat games', because that's the only place I ever saw them in the 90's. Even in the slowly dying arcades around this time, these titles were nowhere to be found. One title I used to play a lot was a game called Turbo Force, which is oddly similar to the other shooters in your video. Except... the Strikers 1945 game. That's in a class all by itself, and one of my favorites as well. I have the MVS version and it's always my go-to shooter, next to the Sonic Wings 2.
    It's not all that often we get to see you venture into the arcade stuff. Awesome video Greg! 👍

    There are quite a few Amiga based arcade machines. Mastertronic (i think) did quite a few under the Arcadia brand including a pretty cool trailblazer/monkeyball type game and the superb shooter sidewinder along with aaargh. The first Virtuality vr machines were Amiga 2000 based as well although later revisions used intel based pc boards.
    The Mad dog mccree laserdisk lightgun games also used Amigas as did up-scope, a cool submarine game with a periscope to look through.

    • @GregsGameRoom
      @GregsGameRoom  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That could make an interesting video. All Amiga based arcade games…

    • @rafaellima83
      @rafaellima83 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Trailblazer/Monkeyball game is Roadwars.
      I really think those Arcadia games were completely out of place in an arcade. The Amiga hardware was amazing for its time, but those games are really mediocre for what you could play on arcades, and they are barely using the hardware properly.
      Now one arcade game that used an Amiga and *should* be mentioned is MadDog McCree (and I believe some other games by American Laser Games)

    • @meetoo594
      @meetoo594 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rafaellima83 roadwars was pretty unremarkable although it did look quite good graphically. But yeah, compared to other machines the arcadia system was very dated. Guess that's why it flopped.

    • @rafaellima83
      @rafaellima83 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@meetoo594 To be quite honest, the Amiga is a 1985 Hardware... if you look at graphics and sounds only... take a look at games like Jim Power, Project-X, Lionheart, Ruff 'n' Tumble, Apidya, Stardust, Elfmania and so many others... all running on 1985 hardware....there aren't many 1985 arcade games that looked really *that* better. Gameplay wise, They weren't as good as the arcade games we could play but technically? The Amiga even had some nearly perfect arcade conversions from arcade games that were from the same year or even newer than the Amiga itself, stuff like Commando, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Rodland or Pang.
      You could use the Amiga hardware on an arcade machine back in 1985 and it would NOT LOOK out of place if the games were properly coded, the system was *that* ahead of its time. The problem is that it took too long for the european coders to learn how to use it properly and - even though I love many games made for the Amiga - European developers had a hard time desiging a good arcade game back then.

    • @meetoo594
      @meetoo594 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rafaellima83 Absolutely. The Amiga was ahead of its time in 1985 but severely held back by the likes of us gold and tiertex pumping out awful arcade ports often using Atari ST code and graphics, slapping an Amiga soundtrack on top and shoving it out the door. Strider, robocop, bionic commando, bad dudes and countless others were laughably bad conversions. That's not to mention all the other ST ported games that plagued the machine for most of its lifespan.
      There were some amazing European coded games, its a pity they weren't hired to convert titles from the arcades very often.
      The lack of multi button joysticks/gamepads also didn't help. Even though the Amiga could support them developers almost never used more than 1 button due to the prevalence of 1 button controllers in the home computer market at the time.

    I used to play Avengers in Galactic Storm at a local laundromat back when the game first came out. The graphics may not have aged well, but you have to remember that Data East was on a tight budget in the mid-90's. As a comic book fan and fighting game enthusiast, I actually like the game. And for anyone familiar with the Kree, you get everyone from Korath and Ronan The Accuser to Dr. Minerva and Atlas. So Marvel fans should check it out.

    The Commodore Amiga can do great graphics and sound. It's the only machine at the time that can replicate Axel F perfectly. The Aaargh arcade didn't fully utilize the power of the Amiga both graphics and sound. If you want some good examples of what Amiga can do just search for Shadow of the Beast, Apidya, Lionheart, Ruff n' Tumble, Superfrog, Zool, Turrican 2 and Lotus Turbo Challenge 2.

    Vendetta is a classic, I could finish the game with 1 credit and a lot of patience, the trick is to walk vertically up and down the screen and do the 2 button attack and as the enemy walks to meet you on the horizontal plane across from you they never have enough time to counter the attack, works for all enemies pretty much.

    I remember Aaargh! but for the c64, kinda weird game for the arcade.Also, the game Vendetta reminds me of the game crime fighters.

    I love Elevator Action 2, it’s one of my all-time favorites. There was a place in my neighborhood that had it and I played it all the time. Could never quite beat it in one quarter, but got pretty close. BTW, I always played as Edie because her firebombs made those enemy swarm battles like in the airplane a piece of cake.
    In the Hunt is great too, that’s another one I played a lot even though I was pretty bad at it. One of my local movie theaters used to have it.
    Never seen Hard Times, but it looks like a reskinned/updated version of Blood Brothers. I can tell that it even reuses some of the same sprites and sound effects from that game.

    I would say the first game is more King of The Monsters than Rampage. Oh the first jet is a YF-22 Raptor and the second one looks like an F-18 Superhornet.
    Addendum- Elevator Action 2 is definitely not an unknown. It first released in the arcades and got an arcade perfect port for the Sega Saturn. Finally, it was just released earlier this year for the Xbox One, One X, Series S, and Series X. The game is fantastic.

    Did Goldeneye steal the alarm sound effect from Elevator Action 2?
    The punching sound effects for that final fight type game sound like they were taken from an old Bruce Lee movie like Enter the Dragon.

    I wonder how old are you, because I am feeling REALLY old seeing people talking about Strikers 1945 II, Vendetta, Elevator Action Returns or... damn, POWER INSTINCT as if they were hidden gems.
    Those games were everywhere on arcades back at my day, and they got a lot of coverage on magazines and stuff. And while Stikers 1945 II and Elevator Action returns had home ports that weren't widelly distributed, every friend of mine back at the day had played at least the SNES port of Power Instinct (since the Mega-Drive one also didn't get a wide release)
    And Vendetta, back at its day it was impossible to get into an arcade and not seeing a machine of it. The guy humping the lamp post was a constant topic of conversation during school times (Hope you played the version that didn't censor him, it's too damn funny, heh)
    Vendetta is a sequel to Crime Fighters, it was released as Crime Fighter 2 in some regions. If you haven't played Crime Fighters, you may want to try it out just as a curiosity :)
    And the guys from Nazca used to work at Irem before forming Nazca so... guess why Undercover Cops looks so much like it. :D Also check Armed Police Unit Gallop :D

    Does anyone per chance know of this arcade game I remember. The opening is the female singer of a rock band is grabbed by a large hand, during her band performance at a rock concert. Two of the band members follow through the portal and fight their way through the various levels to rescue her. It had a sort of over head view, like the early Zelda games.

    Zeus was a spanish developer, made some of the best games published by Dinamic. Biomechanical Toy was published by Gaelco (also Spain based), and was coded by Ricardo Puerto, who also made Risky Woods for the Amiga. I am pretty sure this is not running on Amiga hardware, but it's easy to see why it looks like an Amiga game. I'd say it "Looks like an euro Game from the 90s", but that's that :D
    Steel Force is a similar ase (Not published by Gaelco, but also made in Spain). And you say "This is a top-down game similar too.... " ............ take a look at Alien Breed on Amiga. It's very clear what game inspired them :D . But it also feels a lot like an Euro Game.

    Good list of games, the only one I knew and usually play is elevator action returns, mostly because I had the original one on the msx and later on the famicom. I'm looking for a mame game I played when I was young, don't remember the name, was a fighting game similar to street fighter, remember some of the characters, one of them was from a tribe and had a mask, there was also an old man with big foot and I remember one, his special move was similar to Ryu hadouken, but instead of a ball, it was a blue ship... That's the only things I remember, do you know any fighting game like that?

    The Amiga had an AMAZING sound chip in it. If something doesn't sound right on the Amiga, it was the author, not the machine. I should know, I've actually cut albums where 90% of the audio came from my Amiga and OctaMed (a tracker).

      Old Octamed user here, first introduced to me with a free copy on a magazine and I was hooked. Spent many hours sampling then turning into a track. House tracks and D&B were particularly good and relevant. One trick we did was to make the beats with the four channels then sample them back to one channel, little was lost in quality and three channels gained for the rest. A bonus was the resampled beat could be chopped up and manipulated again. I keep saying one day I will upload some stuff just hope the disks still work.
