I always thought the SNES version of Mortal Kombat was more realistic than Genesis. With more buttons and much better sound. No one ever really argued it in my school. Everyone was aware of the blood code on Genesis but it didn't really make it a better release. I had it on both consoles and friends would always choose the SNES version. StarFox also had a Oscillator mod that you could do to the original cart. The problem is the sound often gets cut in a way it wasn't intended. Most notably in the scene with the ships leaving at the beginning. Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Ugh- I couldn't stand the labored run, animation looked terrible and generic to me. I never played much of the original or the lost levels on All-Stars so I never really noticed the change. Now that I know though, I'll never be able to forget. Even though I steer clear of them, it will weigh on me forever.
Great video. I've played all these before (too much time down the SNES rabbit hole haha). I agree that Super Ghouls and Ghosts is a brutal game. As for FX2 Starfox, I prefer the original running at normal speed. You can now play the original NES version of Super Mario Bros on SNES using Project Nested. I prefer this to the All Stars port. As for hacks to recommend, Super Street Fighter II Reload adds turbo features into the game. Killer Instinct also has the Eyedol Deluxe hack which makes Eyedol a selectable character without cheat codes.

I can't believe I never noticed the Mario block issue given how much I played it. Starfox, it's good but the speed of the game is too fast with the hack!
I feel like people complaining about Baby Mario's realistic crying effect is more of a meme than a legitimate complaint. I remember being impressed when the game came out because he sounded like an actual baby.
I remember getting an SNES Game Genie for the express purpose of turning the sweat into blood. It felt like a great way to hack the system, even if it wasn't quite as bloody as the Genesis version.
The brick physics problem in Super Mario All-Stars is likely to be a bug and not a creative choice. The way All-Stars replaces bricks with empty tiles is handled differently compared to the NES version, inadvertently sending Mario upward. The hack simply reverses Mario's Y speed after hitting a brick.
Bit of a nerding out moment here... you're actually not saving Princess Gwenevere in Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. In fact the game is not based on King Arthur lore at all (though even Capcom USA got confused about this back in the day as I seem to recall one of the English games does actually call her Gwenevere).... you just happen to be a dude named Sir Arthur. The princess is named Prin Prin (I'm not joking).
The issue with the blood version of MK1 on SNES is that they didn't go far enough. First, that blood looks very pixelated, and I think they could have cleaned up the sprites for it a little. Also, there's still no blood landing on the floor, which I think the game needs to really sell the effect. Just a colour palette swap is not enough. Thank God Mortal Kombat II is a thing on SNES. With Yoshi's Island, I honestly think you need Mario crying to sell the effect of what's actually happening there. Without that it just seems hollow. So, as grating as the crying is, I prefer it and actually think that's what incentivises you to grab him again as fast as humanly possible. There's actually a lot of sense behind the way Nintendo did it, and the hack doesn't make things better imo. Regarding Star Fox, I'm not sure it's running smoother so much as it's just running faster. What I would actually like, ideally, is for the game still to play at the same speed at the original but at a higher framerate in general and with no/less slowdown so everything is simply smoother (just like modern games when you switch between 30fps and 60pfs). That's the real way to improve this game. When that happens, if it does, I'll be very impressed indeed. Note: I just played both back-to-back right now, and I prefer the original. Ghouls n Ghost is basically a win all round as far as I'm concerned (the FastROM hack is great for making it run smoother with much less slowdown). The only problem with the hack is having to reach over to Select and hold it at the same times as pressing the d-pad with the other hand (meaning you are just standing still and can't even fire while trying to do the selecting). I'd rather they removed all the pointless Save/Load stuff currently assigned to the shoulder buttons, which actually crashes my version, and instead used the shoulder buttons for the weapon/armour selection. Note: I would also love it someone additionally hacked in the ability to shoot up in the SNES version (need to add in some proper sprite animation frames for him aiming up though, just so it doesn't look cheap). With the Mario All-Stars fix for the jumping: It never bothered me--didn't even notice it before--so not sure I'd care. Although, maybe if I properly sat down and played each version side-by-side I'd actually prefer it one way over the other (although, not necessarily the old over the new). Note: Just tried it and I prefer the patched version. So I've just loaded that onto my hacked SNES Classic Mini. Don't get me wrong, as much as I'm being picky and moaning here, I totally appreciate all the work that people are putting into patching any SNES games. In some cases, like say in Gradius III, where it removes the slowdown but doesn't actually speed up the normal gameplay, it turns a good SNES shmup with lots of unfortunate slowdown into one of the best shmups in its library.

The cool tbing about tue SNES mortal Kombat 1 blood thing is we could do that with a Game Genie back in the day. Too bad the hack doesnt fix the input lag problem though
Everyone always focused on the blood/sweat issue of MK1 on SNES. For me the much more pressing issue, and to my knowledge it has never been addressed, is the gameplay of the game. It's horrible. It's sluggish, unresponsive, and plays practically nothing like the arcade version. The Genesis version actually played a lot closer to the arcade version in terms of gameplay. It's like the SNES version was made by people that never played the arcade original, which was probably the case. I wish the SNES gameplay could've been fixed. I would've been very satisfied if it played like the arcade version, even if it had sweat instead of blood.
I remember back in the day playing Yoshi's Island my brother and I shared a room I remember I rented it. I was up late playing it and everytime Mario and get knocked off and start crying my brother would throw stuff at me
Dang I had Ghouls and Ghosts! Almost forgot that one! Florida here, beat it! The Firefox hack seems the best! Also yoshi was fun and ya crying Mario was annoying.
Dude, if you're an experienced gamer, Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts really shouldn't have been THAT hard that you couldn't get past at least the first stage without a hack. I mean, the game is difficult, yes, but it's nowhere near as hard as other games. The key is just taking your time with it, learning the enemy patterns and not abusing double jump. Once you get powered up, the difficult eases up and makes you really appreciate and play better to hold on to them as long as possible.
i beat super ghouls n ghosts first playthrough on my channel. i havent done the second playthrough yet, but it's not that hard of a game if you practice ;) the older versions of the game though, are way harder.
I disagree with Yoshi's Island. The crying gave you urgency to get Mario back, to stop him crying. You can see there is no urgency to get Mario back when you remove the crying. This "fix" breaks the game.
Well yeah that's the thing with Super ghouls n Ghosts... you gotta memorize the entire thing before it gets fun... So you gotta die in every single trap there is in the game at least once and then once you know everything you're done with the game because it erodes your sanity
As for Super Ghouls N" Ghosts, there is a hack that eliminates the slowdown from the game, making it super smooth! And this is the easiest game of the series so far, the only real problem is the penultimate boss!
I know, right? In the first quest, I'd just lose my armor on purpose for the second form and spam him with my crossbow whereas the second quest, it was always a nail-biter if I'd be able to keep my gold armor to beat him with the goddess bracelet before the timer ran out!
3:39 This is why i NEVER played this game, despite SMW being no worse than like 3rd in my personal all time fav games list... and i HATED that, and i still hate that to this day lol.. like you, i love me some Yoshi (and everyone, i mean come on, right?!?), and u get him as the main guy in a SMW sequel?? But ugh, hearing ABOUT that crying still cant prep u for actually hearing it; heard it ONE time in a commercial or a friend playing it when at his house, something i obv partially blocked out from my mind, and it was a wrap; no WAY i could put up with that... Kinda surprised i never really thought to look up a hack like this.... yet another thing to do on the DAY OFF list i suppose
Great video, already liked and commented it! Btw, I have a video on my channel finishing Super Ghouls n' Ghosts... the only drawback is that it's in Portuguese, my main language. Still, if u wanna check it out, it points out most (if not all) of the hidden chests and the easier way to finish it. u see, once u get the golden armor, it's kinda easy to abuse its frames of invincibility after u use a spell, so that's the main thing u should keep in mind! ;)
As a previous Sega owner I have to say this: You can add as much blood in the patch as you want, but you will allways be a nintendo sissy boy. Whoaaaaaahahaaahaaahaaa
Why are people so annoyed by Mario's crying in Yoshi's island? Like just don't get hit bro. In any other game you'd just die. Plus it literally takes less than 2 seconds to regrab Mario with your tongue
I never understood that complaint about Yoshi's Island. In fact the purpose is to exactly make the player desperate when they lose Mario, so then it adds a little more tension to it. I'm sorry but hacks who remove that sound doesn't quite understand this.
It's not a little more tension, it's a lot of aggrivation to some players. Having my phone squeal like a smoke alarm every morning would help get me out of bed, but sure as shit doesn't mean I'm gonna do it.
The SNES port of Race Drivin' was crap enough to be pretty much unplayable. Fortunately, someone was able to hack the game to play as if there was the SA-1 chip aiding the SNES, and the result is pretty drastic. th-cam.com/video/i9_4mwd7cYg/w-d-xo.html

I'd argue the biggest problem with the SNES Mortal Kombat isn't the lack of blood, it's the terrible input lag. Are there any hacks that fix that?
The cool tbing about tue SNES mortal Kombat 1 blood thing is we could do that with a Game Genie back in the day.
Too bad the hack doesnt fix the input lag problem though
Baby Mario crying stressed me out as a kid and is the main reason I've never played the game.
Tis blood change on the MKI was already available through game genie.
The baby Mario crying isn't a big issue, it's only a skill issue for those who can't avoid getting hit.
No links to the hacks?
New Video let's goo
LOL!
It’s kind of funny how the red sweat hack looks more realistic than the arcade blood.
Agreed. It feels weird compared to the arcade and Genesis version.
Super Ghouls and Ghosts was dark souls before dark souls was even dark souls
dark ghouls
Blood, no no no.
Ripping someone's head and spine out? Completely fine.
I remember back in the day playing Yoshi's Island my brother and I shared a room I remember I rented it. I was up late playing it and everytime Mario and get knocked off and start crying my brother would throw stuff at me
incentive to git gud
Part of the schtick. ;-)
It's so hard.
i beat super ghouls n ghosts first playthrough on my channel. i havent done the second playthrough yet, but it's not that hard of a game if you practice ;) the older versions of the game though, are way harder.
Yep, if you're a sucker for torture Gouls 'N Ghosts is the game franchise for you. Great music though!
I disagree with Yoshi's Island. The crying gave you urgency to get Mario back, to stop him crying. You can see there is no urgency to get Mario back when you remove the crying. This "fix" breaks the game.
I can only agree about the starfox hack but not about those other hacks as they are not a big deal for me.
Well yeah that's the thing with Super ghouls n Ghosts... you gotta memorize the entire thing before it gets fun... So you gotta die in every single trap there is in the game at least once and then once you know everything you're done with the game because it erodes your sanity
The fx2 version is how I remember it haha
As for Super Ghouls N" Ghosts, there is a hack that eliminates the slowdown from the game, making it super smooth! And this is the easiest game of the series so far, the only real problem is the penultimate boss!
Yeah the slowdown was pretty rough in spots
I know, right? In the first quest, I'd just lose my armor on purpose for the second form and spam him with my crossbow whereas the second quest, it was always a nail-biter if I'd be able to keep my gold armor to beat him with the goddess bracelet before the timer ran out!

This is why i NEVER played this game, despite SMW being no worse than like 3rd in my personal all time fav games list... and i HATED that, and i still hate that to this day lol.. like you, i love me some Yoshi (and everyone, i mean come on, right?!?), and u get him as the main guy in a SMW sequel??
But ugh, hearing ABOUT that crying still cant prep u for actually hearing it; heard it ONE time in a commercial or a friend playing it when at his house, something i obv partially blocked out from my mind, and it was a wrap; no WAY i could put up with that...
Kinda surprised i never really thought to look up a hack like this.... yet another thing to do on the DAY OFF list i suppose
Great video, already liked and commented it!
Btw, I have a video on my channel finishing Super Ghouls n' Ghosts... the only drawback is that it's in Portuguese, my main language. Still, if u wanna check it out, it points out most (if not all) of the hidden chests and the easier way to finish it. u see, once u get the golden armor, it's kinda easy to abuse its frames of invincibility after u use a spell, so that's the main thing u should keep in mind! ;)
i want that star fox thing
As a previous Sega owner I have to say this: You can add as much blood in the patch as you want, but you will allways be a nintendo sissy boy. Whoaaaaaahahaaahaaahaaa
Zelda games are not RPG's.
No?
They kinda are tho
They are action RPGs
@@connorplays6263 🤓
They are classified as Adventure games with minor Action/Puzzle elements. 🤓
Why are people so annoyed by Mario's crying in Yoshi's island? Like just don't get hit bro. In any other game you'd just die. Plus it literally takes less than 2 seconds to regrab Mario with your tongue
I finished Super Ghouls n Ghosts when it was first released for the Super Famicom. It's not that hard!
Do you live in Colorado?
The TV brightness is too high I can see the TV's raster lines
I never understood that complaint about Yoshi's Island. In fact the purpose is to exactly make the player desperate when they lose Mario, so then it adds a little more tension to it.
I'm sorry but hacks who remove that sound doesn't quite understand this.
It's not a little more tension, it's a lot of aggrivation to some players.
Having my phone squeal like a smoke alarm every morning would help get me out of bed, but sure as shit doesn't mean I'm gonna do it.
Game genie is good for the tough ones
2 player Final Fight Guy
The SNES port of Race Drivin' was crap enough to be pretty much unplayable. Fortunately, someone was able to hack the game to play as if there was the SA-1 chip aiding the SNES, and the result is pretty drastic. th-cam.com/video/i9_4mwd7cYg/w-d-xo.html
Mean flawed snes games i think paperboy 2 and roadrunner Death Valley rally not star fox or super Mario all stars
Not bad.
Imagine Bubsy having a romhack that fixes his problem with Jumping with momentum, Giving Bubsy Hit points (either a la Bubsy 2 or Sonic) making better bosses and reduces his acceleration speed, it could have been purrrfect
Sorry to say but other than the Star Fox one, these all seem pretty lame to me.
Why were you a Sega fan over a Nintendo fan?
Or u can cheat abacaab i think been 30 years pretty sure that was the blood code mortal kombat hehe😂😂😂
💯 on super Mario all stars. Completely broke the game
pls ty
HAY DUDE give site for hack ghoul ghoust that awesome hack
I can't stand yoshis island. The music is terrible. La lalalalala la lalalalala......incredibly annoying
The most overrated console ever,, the Super Nofriendo aka snes.
The reason Nintendo was so strict with blood, gore and tits (final fight) was because since they were the most known company they were the ones being sued left and right for anything regarding video games. The move in MK 1 was preemptive.
