Do they have a speedrun category for "playing the game the way it was meant to be played"? Would be nice to see. In this particular case; no glitching through the level, no exploiting weird mechanics, just going through each screen and killing each boss with the weapon they're weak to.

I just beat this game on the Switch Collection. I struggled so much on Yellow Devil, much more than any other bosses, so I wanted to check if I was doing anything wrong.
Boy was I here for a treat.
I mean thats fine, i think Yellow Devil is just the hardest boss in the game

Using a glitch in a speedrun should disqualify it being called a speedrun when the abuse of glitches isn't being good and doing a true speedrun. The glitch on Cutman was already too much for me when I played this back in the day, so seeing someone currently unable to do a speedrun with zero cheats, then say there's a glitchless version. The fake run shouldn't even be counted!
Glitches Makes Life More Fun
I agree with you. Not that into the speed run thing but I clicked on this video and the first level he jumped into the ceiling to hit a ladder on the floor and used the pause trick on the boss. Hardly an accomplishment. But if others enjoy it or find it satisfying that's good for them.
An any% speedrun is about going from start to finish as fast as possible. If the glitches make you faster, then you can use them.
Glitches are also not cheating. This isn't something where you can just press up and A to finish the game or he's using a game genie, these require proper knowledge, execution and implementation just like any other part of the game.
@@mengo329 In my mind, speedruns have ruined gaming when it makes it so people find hacks/glitches and think it matters when literally speedruns mean nothing and can easily be beaten the next time soneone finds a loophole. There's no honor or prestige in that, just people further wasting their time in a hobby that's about enjoying the time you spend on it, not minimizing the time you spend on it. But to each their own, and I'm not going to judge people who do speedruns like this when they clearly have nothing else to do with their lives. And being that I've found the secret to never being bored, I laugh at people who are small-minded and think any% speedruns mean anything in the bigger picture. I prefer to play my games at ~90% enjoyed-the-game-fully runs. Only thing I speedrun are dailies when to get through 5 games in about 90 minutes and actually gaining over time? Yeah, have fun and know this was cathartic to type, something speedrunners know nothing about.

Why are you speedrunning Rock Man instead of Mega Man and calling it "Mega Man speedrun"? Why is this not a Rock Man speedrun?
I know, Rock Man is the japanese name. Mega Man is the western name. Mega Man is one of my fav game series all time! Love these speedruns but just curious about why you play Rock Man and not Mega Man?
gameplay wise the japanese version is identical to the north american Mega Man. I just happen to own a famicom+rockman cartridge so that's why I play on it. + the title screen is cuter
So is it also identical with the refresh rate? 60 Hz also on Famicom?

I didn't know you can cancel knockback with select. And also, the fact that you have to pull of the magnet beam glitch in elec man's stage consistently is kinda insane. I can barely even press down + shoot on the same frame.
After you beat Cutman I said "cheater" like something offended me, but I think that was just reflex
