@Jensen HARGREAVES Federer has the best public image for charity and stuff because he also commercialises himself for doing so (nothing wrong) Rafa and Novak do that too, but Rafa is the biggest gentleman in tennis history, never said anything bad about anyone, never threw a tantrum or anything like it. The GOAT tittle is debatable but the biggest role model and gentleman in this sport is Rafa by far and to me that's why he is the GOAT because there is more to it then on court results (which he also has)
@Chuck Thunder Its not about the surface in Paris. Its because its a more important tournament and you have to beat this absoulute legend in 5 sets since its a slam.
You can close the roof Change the balls Change the month Change the weather Change the temperature Change the audience attendance You can’t change the Roland Garros champion #RafaelNadal
Crazy how a surface can make so much of a difference, I mean Aus open just the year before Djokovic beat Nadal so hard he made him look like a beginner then fast forward a year and Nadal sends Djokovic back to his junior days, simply marvellous
@Barış Alkan true but the high bounce is even more of a factor than the court speed. Nadals forehand simply does too much damage even with margin for anybody to deal with over 5 sets.
Thing is here these conditions was the best possible for Novak with the closed roof and cold temperature, more control + lower bounce. So even though it is clay this match should have been closer maybe even a different winner perhaps if Novak played his best.

Rafael Nadal - is the personification, embodiment and evolution of a “Champions Attitude” - never an excuse - always humble - always unconditionally committed to getting better - he is strong and brave in the face of adversity and humble and gracious in the glow of victory. A wonderful human - playing a wonderful game with the totality of being a Champion!

Gonzalo S. Vasq In Barcelona, there is already a court called Rafa Nadal. I think the courts are named based on the tennis player from that country. For instance, AO has Rod Laver, or USO has Arthur Ashe. So I don’t think it’s easy to do that.
As a Novak fan, I knew he was in trouble when Rafa hit that crosscourt backhand winner in the first game 40-30. Rafa only hits that shot when he's fully confident in his strokes.

I think Djoko played waaaaaay better back in 2012 2013 or 2014 honestly. He committed 52 unforced errors and had only 40% 1st serves in ... But it's part of the game, I think all players already lose in their mind before playing against Rafa at the French
@@thexcookieman1842 On the contrary, I think Nadal changed tactics and caught Djokovic by surprise so he was forced to go for more shots than normal, hence the huge number of unforced errors
@@thexcookieman1842 Nah man, it was just that Rafa was returning his first serves like Novak was doing to everybody, he got in his head from the get go, Novak didn't play badly at all. He had more winners, especially in the 3rd set I think he played his best tennis. But Rafa's attitude throughout the match was like you can't beat me and you know it. Novak deserves all the respect but it's clear now that that 2015 win was a fluke. By fluke I mean he was "lucky" that he was the top player to play and beat Rafa. Stan, Andy Roger maybe Ferrer would've beaten him that year
@@ismetcehic5581 I think everybody knows the 2015-2016 meetings were so onesided because Rafa was nowhere near the level he is now and the level he needs to have in order to beat Djokovic. This can also be the reason why Djokovic leads the h2h right now and why he has also beaten him more easily than usual on hard courts lately 🤫
"I have always had the utmost respect for my friend Rafa as a person and as champion. As my greatest rival over many years, I believe we have pushed each other to become better players. Therefore, it is a true honor for me to congratulate him on his 20th Grand Slam victory. It is especially amazing that he has now won Roland Garros an amazing 13 times, which is one of the greatest achievement in sport. I also congratulate his team, because nobody can do this alone. I hope 20 is just another step on the continuing journey for both of us. Well done, Rafa. You deserve it." - Roger Federer
I am a Federer fan. I swear, I am almost happy as if Roger won another Slam. Because this man right here is the best rival a supporter could ever ask for. Classy, graceful, humble, as immense as a person as he is as a player. He truly deserves this achievement, and I hope he gets even more. Along with Roger, maybe, but for the moment.... All hail the king of clay, all hail Rafa Nadal
Katherine Sparkes to have 20 GS when you are excellent on clay or grass is twice more difficult than to win on hard court. Not only that. To play on clay is the most difficult of the three as it requires much more technique, mental strength and strategy as you cannot rely so much on your service. That is why he is the best even if Federer has a more refined technique. That and because his injury struggles and his come backs and his humility and his attitude on and off court. Federer was playing tennis 5 years without facing an strong opponent. In fact, Rafa lost 2 Wimbledon Finals before he defeated him in 2008. Federer won one RG because Nadal was out with injury. It is like Thiem’s US open victory without the Top 3.
i loved how Rafa said in the first interview on court "Novak killed me in Australia, now it was my turn" and even Novak had to laugh after loosing this match! amazing players!
@@lavarball4635 the guy played 12 finals at Wimbledon, won 8 times (record for now) and lost 4 in very tight matches that could go either way. And you're telling me "he's neglected". You might reconsider your statement.
@@juanmartin8753 Shut up. Djokovic has better mental strength than the grunter. Talk about records...Djokovic doesn't just eclipse all of Nadal's achievements (of course except clay which Nadal relies on) but also outperforms in terms of all surfaces. Throughout his career he has faced opposition from fanboys like you. More slams, weeks at #1 (doubled it in fact), he has 40 masters titles, has more year end titles and wins over Federer and Nadal. Now, you can go ahead and say that I am just spewing stats at you, so before you began your roid rage, I'll cram some facts up your ass. Djokovic has supported improved education in Serbia by direct donations and has a foundation with his wife to continue this. He also guided young players to play in the ATP Next Gen organization. Did you even muster up the energy to watch some of the interviews, events, etc. with the other ATP players? Novak has utmost respect to his opponents, and in general, he is an extremely charismatic and energetic person. So, outside of tennis and on the court, I don't see how he's simply racquet smasher that you describe him as.
That had to be SO satisfying. The lead-up: "Oh, it's cooler, and the conditions favor Djokovic. Rafa's run is over." And Rafa produced one of his best Roland Garros tournaments ever. Here's a stat for you: Roger Federer has won 20 Grand Slam Men's Singles tournaments in 79 tries. Nadal has done the same ... in 60 tries. Who's the GOAT? That would be Rafa.
@@wave1468 Yeah... TEENAGE Rafa lol... fed won 6 majors by 2005 and Rafa only beat him on clay which is a given because Rafa on clay is the greatest tennis player of all time...once Rafa grew up a little bit and actually improved his game - 2008, 2009 federer stopped winning as much. Djokovic was a much later bloomer too and Ofc this doesn’t mean Federer can’t beat either of them these days (match point against Djokovic in Wimbledon 2019 for example) but it shows that he won most of his majors (15 or so) before Rafa (and then later Djokovic) truly started to dominate
I didn't know that. 79 vs 60 attempts is a huge difference actually. And Federer's early opponents were not nearly as tough as what Djokovic and Nadal had to play against. Neither Safin, nor Roddick were as dangerous as Wawrinka, Thiem, Murray when on his prime, etc.
I just cited that figure today. On the women's side Evert was also 1 in 3. That's a good reason for him to be the GOAT, you're right; a lot more impressive than the 35 or something consecutive semifinals of FedExpress in Majors.
If Rafa has played 60 slams instead of 70 or 80 as a result of injuries then that's his own doing. Maybe if he played a less physical brand of tennis then he'd have less chances of getting injured.Of course playing less physical tennis might mean less chance of winning those 20 that he has won.
It's crazy to think that Iga, the women's champion, was 4 years old when Rafa won his first trophy. Now, 15 years later, he is still the champion. What a legend. 🏆♥️

Yeah me too. Is OK. Federer can still win a few more although I think Covid and stadium with little crowd might put an end to his career sooner that expected.
I think Fed and Nadal both win one more next year...Nadal French, Fed Wimbledon. Gonna be hard for Djokovic to catch up to these two since even though he's the youngest, he's still over 33. But I think Djokovic can win at least two more.
Honestly, if you watched the whole match there was nothing Djokovic could do or did'nt do to win. He threw the kitchen sink at Nadal and the ball still came back with interest or a clean winner. Like AO'19 final where Djokovic was unplayable, today Nadal was simply unplayable. Rafa reserved his best for the finals.
Nadal was not unbeateble today, Djokovic did not have the commitment to spent 5 hours hitting the ball plus 90 mph to overplay Nadal, and thats why Nadal is one of the GOAT a machine that will destroy you if you dont put the best you have in each match....
@ TheTH-camr and Ja Y : Oh please, for godsakes, stop with the BS. This was probably the most important match in Djokovic's career and he had everything to play for. Just give credit to Rafa. He neutralized Nole from the get go, with some extremely smart and strategic tennis. So, did Rafa play badly in the AO'19 final, no! Djokovic was unplayable that day, like Nadal was today. PS: When someone loses a grand slam final. It's 99% probability that the opponent played better. Rather than the player losing, playing badly.
Rafa was ruthless in this match. He came out really focused and I think he crushed Nole’s spirit. Even in the third when it looked like Djokovic might make a push, Rafa shut it down. As a Rafa fan I’m not only happy that he won but that he did it in dominating fashion.
It was important that Rafa shut Novak down, because Novak is one player capable of turning round his game and bouncing back if he gets any whimp of a chance. Nadal has learnt his lessons
Rafa's performance in this match was probably the best performance anyone has ever put out in any tennis final ever since the RG 2008 final. Just ridiculous.

He was an unstoppable ruthless force on the court and the sweetest most humble winner. Despite this year's hardship watching Rafa claim his 13th Roland Garros has brought a small piece of normality to this year and hope for the next. Vamos Rafa, you truly are the one and only GOAT.
Nadal didnt loose a set in this Roland garros....just to tell you the level of the guy ! He is the god of clay and no one beats nadal in Roland garros ! Congrats to rafa his legacy in Roland will never be forgotten !
Pete Sampras was widely considered as the greatest tennis ever when he won 14 grand slams... Nadal now has 13 French Opens alone ... I have to laugh everytime I think of how ridiculous his French Open record is !
This was the most tactical beat down I’ve ever seen on a court besides the beating Rafa gave Roger in RG 08. Nadal used every single conceivable shot, lob, drop shot, angle, topspin, high looping forehand return, straight backhand, straight forehand, change of pace slice followed by a fearhand return... my goodness... God Mode activated. Joker 🃏 played well actually he was just shocked as there was no game plan for this type of play on clay. Federer did this on grass in Wimbledon 19 but he choked away the match. Rafa said “not today”try next year. Phenomenal performance.
Indeed it was! I never expected that it will be a demolishing job. T’was fantastic. It’s as if he was waiting for this opportunity to get his revenge from the AO finals humiliation he got from Nole. Now, they’re even.
Almargo said it best "Rafa will win Roland Garros 40 years in a row... he'll be 65 and still be winning at Roland Garros". That was back in 2008. As a Rafa fan, I am so proud of his achievements. Everything was against him winning this year's tournament - he hadn't won a warm-up tournament leading into Roland Garros for the first time in his career, the cold, wet weather and heavy ball would neutralise his natural advantages, and the seemingly invincible Novak Djokovic who owns a winning record (29-26) over him would be too much for him to overcome. I just love how Rafa rises to the challenge and overcomes adversity each and every time. Yes, there's been some heartbreaking losses over the years but I am never disappointed in being his fan. When he loses, he accepts it and moves on and comes back even stronger.
I totally agree with you. Beautiful words. What a wonderful time for tennis. We’ll miss this guys in the future. I feel lucky to be able to enjoy this as it happens and not in history books. Greetings from Spain.
He is the best example for the kids and adults alike, in my opinion. Such a great human being in general, same goes for the members of the big three. We are blessed with their greatness and kindness. As other folk said already, as far as Nadal wins Rolland Garros, it is good to be here on earth.
Unbelievable, I thought it should be a 5-set match. There will be nobody like Rafa again, never ever again. I'm just so lucky to be able to witness his career.
I became a Nadal fan after Agassi retired. He was the one player that kept the sport interesting for me. Such a hard worker on the court with incredible ground strokes.
Nadal just confirmed what most people thought: he is Mozart in this court. His footwork, court coverage, change in rhythm, and his devastating forehand. If he keeps this form, I seriously doubt anyone in the world can win here if Nadal reaches the final. The emperor of clay and possibly the GOAT himself !.
@@taopaille-paille4992 I am sorry, his footwork and sensible touch of the volleys says otherwise. The craftsmanship of his tennis is second to none, on clay. Especially this court. So, again, he is the best in the history of the sport and his records tells you that too. A master of masters.
@@Xo.064 I am not sure I get it. For me as a non American, it is an insult to compare Nadal performance with a Hollywood nobody of the seventies. I don't see the resemblance and I don't like it.

The difference between him and the others is so big on clay and especially in RG that even if he played with 50% of his ability he would win in 3 tight sets or in 4. We will never see a player like that again, not even on other surfaces We should be happy that we are living in this tennis time
All the so called experts in tennis predicted Djokovic winning. Ivanisevic, chist evert, wilander, Brad Gilbert, mackanroe, bodo, muratouglo, etc etc. I never doubted the man, raining, wet, winter, cold, sun, no sun, heavy balls, not winning Rome, Djokovic winning Rome. This is Rafa's best surface.
It's funny how Novak celebrated holding his serve as if he was winning the match. That is a good way to understand the level that Nadal was displaying that day. I have not seen anything like that before. Nadal is just on other level when playing on clay courts. Really hoping he gets to win even more grand slams and hopefully the ATP Finals or any other indoor tournament before he retires.
I cracked up when John McEnroe said ”imagine beating Nadal only to lose the whole tournament” Referring to Djokovic losing the French open finals to Stan Wawrinka in 2015. Lmao!!! 😂🤣

Everyone always uses the same weak argument that all his wins are on clay. Allow me to remind everyone the Nadal has 7 slams NOT ON CLAY, that's more than Becker, Edberg, Lendl, Borg, Same number as Agassi, Connors, McEnroe. Credit to Fed and Djoko cause if it wasn't for them he would have several more. Nadal has lost 8 slam finals, 7 of those were to Djoko and Fed, 1 to Wawrinka. If you understand tennis, you understand that Nadal stood much closer to the baseline than he typically does and this caught Novak by surprise. That little bit of time he took away from his opponent meant all the difference. Rafa knows how to defend his home court. This was a fantastic display of tennis...

Nadal won it again at age 36. Beating an in form Novak on the way. And Djokovic at 35 is making mincemeat out of his opponents at AO right now and hes in the SF, and every time hes reached a SF, hes won the title. Down 2 match points to Roger? Not a problem. Not to mention 100% of the crowd was against Novak. Sun in his eyes too and he was returning Federer's serve. Then again crowds are never an issue for Novak. Down 2 sets to a guy 15 years younger? (Sinner 2022 QF) No problem. Down a set to Kyrgios (2022 Final) having never won a set vs Nick and never having broken his serve previously? No problem. Down a set to a guy undefeated on grass that season? (Berrettini 2021 final) no problem. Regardless of who defeats him, its gonna be a SEISMIC shock next time Novak loses a Wimbledon match. Makes Murrays win in 2013 all the more incredible that he managed to pull it off. Rafa's epic AO run isnt possible with Novak in Australia. But Medvedev was also in fantastic form and mentally in a great place, especially after coming from 2 sets and MP down vs FAA who himself had a great year. Rafa coming from 2 sets down vs a confident Medvedev was truly stunning given the circumstances. The tough 5 setter vs Shapo when Nadal won despite heat stroke. And being out for 5 months before. Only downside was that it destroyed Meddy's confidence. He hasn't been the same since.
After all the hype that Djokovic is technically better, has all the answers to every Nadal shot, and was expected to give Nadal trouble, Nadal dismantled Djokovic's game and announced once and for all that Nadal is, and has always been, the king of clay. Or should I say, god of clay.

I have never seen Nadal so quiet in a match. Sublime shotmaking with total confidence in every move. This was a little different to the recent 2021 SF of RG. Palpable stress and momentous pressure, with, at times, an unbelievable amount of errors. It made for a tense battle amid the finest of margins.

Everything was against him this year...Final in october, cold, rain, wilson balls, Novak in the final and they even closed the roof for final... still he won it without dropping a set and the way he destroyed Djokovic in final is just amazing... such a legend - repeat in half a year...
Not really. The court was much slower than usulal which neutralised Novak's serve and return speed. This was more close match than the scoreboard shows. He outclassed Novak, didn't destroyed him. Destruction was Ao2019 final.
@@miodragmanojlovic In Ao2019 Nadal won 8 gems to Novak's 7 in RG ;) and still didn't lose set to 0 xD Both matches were very one sided though. Novak just wasn't in best form and you could already see this in games with Carenno and Tsitsipas, low % of first serve, a lot of unforced errors. He has actually very easy draw, don't think he was good enough here to beat Thiem or Schwartzman not to mention Nadal
I never thought I could surprised by Nadal's brilliance at the French Open, but he somehow manages to outdo even his own peerless standards. Bravo from a Federer fan. Bravo, Rafa!
Nadal's dominance at RG shouldn't be a surprise to anyone anymore, but it's still simply amazing for Nadal to beat arguably the world's second greatest clay-court player so comprehensively in the final. I'm a Djokovic fan, but you gotta tip your hat to true greatness when you see it.

Novak was a gentleman in the end. He told Rafa: " Man well done!". He understood - he played well, but it was not even close to being enough! 2020 was the single most dominant French Open win by Rafa next to his 2008 performance. He did not win his matches, he rolled over people like a tidal wave.

@Barış Alkan This is a bit oversimplifying. You have long points also on grass or hc nowadays.
@@Srednicki123 He didn't say the opposite. But there's a lot more long points in clay than in any other surfaces
@Barış Alkan true but the high bounce is even more of a factor than the court speed. Nadals forehand simply does too much damage even with margin for anybody to deal with over 5 sets.
Nadal’s movement and forehand on clay is the greatest miracle in all of sport history.
Thing is here these conditions was the best possible for Novak with the closed roof and cold temperature, more control + lower bounce. So even though it is clay this match should have been closer maybe even a different winner perhaps if Novak played his best.

Djokovic actually played really good. But Nadal is just ridicolous on Clay. This is high class tennis.. geniuses on court.

Yes, 100% flawless performance 🔥🔥🔥 unbelievable !!
That's a man who knows his skills inside out... 😃
Indeed it was! I never expected that it will be a demolishing job. T’was fantastic. It’s as if he was waiting for this opportunity to get his revenge from the AO finals humiliation he got from Nole. Now, they’re even.
Phenomenadal performance
1:16 shows this. Joker won the point but that took every bit of effort he had. Rafa on clay is something else
But they ALL have had devastating losses though. It's part of the sport! U just have to expect them, learn from them and move on!
I would not say he is the Mozart of this court, but more the Chuck Norris.
@@taopaille-paille4992 I am sorry, his footwork and sensible touch of the volleys says otherwise. The craftsmanship of his tennis is second to none, on clay. Especially this court. So, again, he is the best in the history of the sport and his records tells you that too. A master of masters.
@@j.erickson8571 He is implying that Chuck Norris furthers your compliment, he is not disagreeing with your overall message
@@Xo.064 I am not sure I get it. For me as a non American, it is an insult to compare Nadal performance with a Hollywood nobody of the seventies. I don't see the resemblance and I don't like it.
The variety on his forehand hits this game was amazing. I don't think I've seen that level ever. Power, technique and touch. Nadal has it all.
The first player in tennis history to win a 4 times GS titles without lose a set after 2008, 2010, 2017, incredible
And he doesn't win 7: 5 7: 6 (with a few exceptions), only 6: 0, 6: 1 6: 2 ... unimaginable
He can read a game better, he can do more with the ball than anyone else, he plays aerodynamically and is very clever tactically.
The difference between him and the others is so big on clay and especially in RG that even if he played with 50% of his ability he would win in 3 tight sets or in 4.
We will never see a player like that again, not even on other surfaces
We should be happy that we are living in this tennis time
What do you mean by "aerodynamicly" has it to do with topspin?
So you are deciding to be selective with the data? IN 2007 when he won in Paris it was 4 sets over Federer? Do I need to go on???

It's funny how Novak celebrated holding his serve as if he was winning the match. That is a good way to understand the level that Nadal was displaying that day. I have not seen anything like that before. Nadal is just on other level when playing on clay courts. Really hoping he gets to win even more grand slams and hopefully the ATP Finals or any other indoor tournament before he retires.

Nadal won it again at age 36. Beating an in form Novak on the way. And Djokovic at 35 is making mincemeat out of his opponents at AO right now and hes in the SF, and every time hes reached a SF, hes won the title. Which means in about 78-79 hours from now, Novak will be lifting the AO trophy again. For a 10th time. @@james-vx7nv I'm glad that Novak is back in Australia, and at the peak of his power and greatness nevertheless. In a 5+ hour battle vs peak Rafa (2018 SF) and facing multiple break points in the fifth? No problem for Novak.
Down a set to a Brit (2018 R3 Edmund, 2022 SF Norrie, 2021 R1 Draper)? No problem.

Djokovic's coach yesterday : "Nadal has no chance in these conditions"
Rafa today : "To lose yes"
😂😂😂
You meant...”lose” right? There’s a diff bet loose and lose...
Guillaune X...That´s one thing I hate about Djokovic and his egotistical coach, they´re too proud, to much pride(one of the seven deadly sins) and think they´re above the rest. Don´t get me wrong, Djokovic is a very good player, but all that pride.
Extremely idiotic thing to say about a 12 time champion
Guillaume X Did his coach really say that? W...O...W. Wow.
Novak was a gentleman in the end. He told Rafa: " Man well done!". He understood - he played well, but it was not even close to being enough! 2020 was the single most dominant French Open win by Rafa next to his 2008 performance. He did not win his matches, he rolled over people like a tidal wave.
2017 is the most dominant ever
