I love how much his game has evolved. In his younger days he would be 6 feet behind the baseline and win points with his brilliant counterpunching and young legs. But after 2015 you can see how much his touch and net game developed. Sadly there will never be another player like Nadal. Nobody will play with that much intensity and hit with the same spin again
Yep. More powerful forehands, more attacking ones as well. People think he's got a weak backhand.. He hasn't. Give him a loopy ball on his backhand side and he will smash it.
Yeah, I remember in the early years he would walk around his backhand almost all the time. He would hit 90% of the balls with his forehand. And then he left open so much space and it was so risky, because the opponent just put the ball in the other corner and Nadal ran so much all the time. It didn't seem like a smart move. I think his backhand really wasn't that good in the first years. It was very flat. His serve was also not very hard yet. But his serve got better first in 2008 or something. But later he improved it again and pushed it more foreward.
I suggest you dig a bit into Guillermo Coria. He could have made it much mor difficult for Nadal had he not developed service yips. His 2005 Rome final against Nadal remains maybe the main candidate for the best final ever, outside GS finals.
@XRP SNIPER Watching the 2005 Monte Carlo and Rome finals, there is nothing to separate them speedwise. Nadal had a better arsenal overall, that's obvious. And I didn't say Coria would have snatched clay titles from Rafa...especially not in the 2006-2008 era, it's just that he would have been pushed closer to his limits more freqently. Nadal himself said that his hardest final was Rome 2005 against Coria. But if you want to argue against even that, there's not much sense I can bring here :)

I wouldnt say improved. He just plays different tennis because his old playstyle is unsustainable. Now he has to be aggressive allrounder if he wants to have a chance.
