- The Cadets of CTC 1-22 watch with pride, anticipation, and hope as their senior counterparts graduate and become officers. They embark on intensive and mission-critical DUI enforcement training and learn live-saving skills during EMS training. The stress of the high speed track gets to be too much for some cadets as they strap in and learn how to safely and effectively drive patrol cars at pursuit speeds.

I worked 24 years of graveyards as an officer and sergeant (and even a few shifts as a lieutenant). Made thousands of DUI arrests/turnovers and have a wall full of MADD Awards that I'm proud of. Loving this series!
Did you have to work those graveyards or was that shift preference?

Any CHP officers here that can tell us what is required during the high speed portion?
Cadets must qualify at up to 120 mph around the high speed track using proper turning and braking techniques.
Being from Argentina, Province of Chaco, can I do the California Highway Patrol race, or not?
You have to be a resident of CA and have a CA driver’s License to apply to the CHP, amongst other things.
Anyone know how much running or cardio will be once in the academy?
Being in good shape is a huge help in attending the academy. Floor workouts can be as long as 30 minutes of non-stop Calisthenics along with runs to follow soon after. Being physically fit is a key component in getting through academy training successfully. We recommend all applicants to start their training as soon as they start the hiring process.
Do they stay in all the way or they get to bookout on weekends?
Cadets are given liberty on the weekends pending any exams or scheduled trainings. For the most part, cadets can check out as early as a Friday evening and then check in Sunday prior to midnight.
They get liberty on most weekends and Wednesday evenings.
