At the CAL FIRE Academy, they attached a anti-roll device (looks like a crab) to a 26,000 pound fire engine and students practice high speed maneuvers similar to what CHP does with their patrol vehicles. It's a sight to see a vehicle that large do a full 360 and the students regain control and continue on.
When I went through the police academy, I also had zero experience with a firearm. I intently listened to my instructors in how to shoot the weapon and was getting great scores. My fellow cadets were asking me to help them shoot to get a good score. At the end of the police academy, there was a first place trophy for the best marksman. It was between me and another cadet as we shot from different positions, standing, kneeling, behind cover on your belly. We were neck and neck. I lost to the other cadet on the belly position. I learned my competition was a Marine veteran.
I was thinking that too, reminds me of Police Academy and Fire Academy reality tv shows from like 2009? I think. Miss that, this is similar but too short 😅
I LOVED my EVOC training at the Academy. It was the first time I had driven a vehicle with an automatic transmission so that was interesting. Late in my career I was a manager in HQ and we decided to have an in-service EVOC day. That was one of the best training days I ever had on the job.
Honestly, this EVOC course is what is scaring me the most out of the academy. I had buddies pass away due to hydroplaning and car accidents so I hope I’ll be able to pass EVOC
My son is in his 13th week at the academy. I knew the toughest part for him would be EVOC so I made sure to help him by finding him an EVOC class to attend prior to him starting the academy. So i enrolled him twice in that class lol. The class really helped him haha. Everything else from DUI reports to PMA he did while in the CHP explorers. GO CHP! 👍
I always will remember in my life not following up on my CHP career. I passed the written exam on or about 1997, I failed the exam my first time. I studied and practiced, on the second try I was the third one to finish written exam, I knew I had passed. I really wanted to become a member of California's finest. I was doing good financially selling radio advertising and and running my security company in San Diego. I was little scared leaving my wife and two baby girls at home and getting out of that comfort zone. If you are planning applying with CHP go for it. Don't hesitate and ask for help, that way to get everything lined up, when you are invited to to the CTC. Do it, don't be like me. My cousin retired from CHP, and has always says "you bonehead" you should joined, you would made a great STO. Our first two daughters are married and have good jobs, I've been persuading our third daughter to apply, but she is considering veterinary school - wish me luck. God Bless the CHP family and stay safe!
Had you gone ahead and done it, you and I might have been classmates. I graduated CTC II-98 and have had an absolute blast of a career. The people (uniformed and non) who work for the CHP are a class act. The absolute best of the best, and our mission is just. I'm planning on retiring this year when I turn 50. But, truth be told, I can't think of anything else I'd rather do. When asked, I compare it to being at a really cool party and knowing that your time to leave is coming up but trying to make excuses to stay a while longer.
This is exactly what I’m at right now. I’m good in backgrounds I’m just so overthinking it. Idk if I can leave this comfort I have to go. I needed to read this
@@tile_life6819 blessings my brother, go do what your heart tells you. I wish you the best, but do not wait for the right moment or time. Time passes and fast, go do the CTC CHP and graduate. @@robertoiniguez3514 I know my brother I should of gone to Sacramento, I wanted K-9 detail. My cousin #12000's, CTC 1-88 drove the Mustang 5.0, then on to BMW motorcycle, he had a blast. EVOC driving seems overwhelming with the high speed they're driving and then with the sliding, skidding would make me dizzy too... I'm sooo enjoying watching these videos though 🎉🎉👍👍
I wanted to do chp so dang bad! My record is clean but I’ve done some things that I’m ashamed of in the past and unfortunately it won’t let me pass the poly exam 😔
Question, how long does each of these lessons take? Like to learn and pratice? I never caught that part. Love the videos you guys make, every episode is great!

As I was reading this I knew it was a Marine as I am one 😂😂
Love this show. But the videos need to be longer.. we need full 1 hour shows.

EVOC for me was very fun. But then again I went to the academy in Colorado and we don’t do hydroplaning scenarios
Just take your time, listen to the instructors and you will be fine. Don't rush anything. They aren't looking for speed just smooth control.
Hey bro you can find driving instructors for EVOC and tell them ur training for the CHP evoc

It is several sessions during the entire academy. They work with each cadet with what they need. Depends on the cadet.
I love ❤
Shaking is from tensing the muscles… lol. ☠️
No one passes this one though 😂
they need mask out at the range but they don't need mask inside the vehicle with fellow cadets?
