Thanks for this video. This auger solved my problems. I had to use it today! Works great!!! you saved my $$$. I paid a plumber $125 to do this. Now I can do it myself. I have a tree branch problem. I am pouring salt, too. I got it on ebay fro $172. It was $255 on Amazon. Thanks again, bro.
These things are absolutely necessary in my 1962 house… it worries me, because they’re still cast iron pipes from my laundry to septic inlet. Having control of the spin speed is vital. My current auger is one speed, forward and reverse.
I have an old house and worry about the cast iron as well. I stopped trying to clear clogs ten years ago and hire people to do it, and Tom is correct. It is expensive.
@@purleybaker yeah, my outlet pipe to septic collapsed and had to hire someone to break concrete, dig, replace, add clean out. It was a little over $8k :-(
Thanks for your mention Tom.. Another note re the forward engagement lock that makes the snake screw out. I mentioned that it must be kept in the left to right position.. Well I've discovered that even though the knob is in the correct locked position, the tongue part of the assembly is not fixed securely in the lifting knob. Thus it can rotate as the snake thrashes through. I drilled a hole through the whole thing inside the clearance part and put a split pin through it. Problem fixed. Hard to explain in words but I can send a pic if that helps..
Nice review. I can easily see how the snake machine works with small cable drum. But how does it work with larger cable? The larger cable cage does not rotate since it sits on the ground, but the machine rotates the snake cable. That seems very dangerous to me. I don't see how that can work. I prefer conventional snake machines which spin the snake cable drum using a belt like harbor freight hydrostar drain monster (and can be easily found used pretty cheap on craigslist).
Bought a Harbor Freight Hydrostat and although it did the job the belt came off and with no tension adjustment will have to fight to get the belt back on. This one doesn't have a drum. It's 50' to the street from my clean out in front of the house.
These things are very handy but here's a few more tips.. when using the main snake it needs to be taken right out of its cage.. it will whip around like a bitch and cause all kinds of mayhem.. I use a series of rigid plastic waterpipes . That keeps it under control. You also need to make sure the locking driving thing at the front does not rotate out of the correct left to right orientation.. If it does the spring will not advance and it will become stretched and distorted. Likewise the legs tend to unscrew with the vibration. A little sealant will fix both those problems. I also made up a tool that easily separates the sections without heaps of fiddly effort. Hope these tips help..
I want to know why you showing it on Amazon when Amazon is three times more I will go to the website that actually make them which is three times less and you got more options to buy other ones for the same price the company that makes them make all different kinds of them and I would rather go to the company then going to Amazon and paying three times more
Absolutely the worst instructional video i have ever seen. Showed none of the assembling of the cables and how they interact with each other and the machine itself. The ibstructions, as usual are written by someone with no grasp of the english language or hiw to use it in a clear and specifuc way. Since we maybe would assume most of the users are english speaking-well, you know where im going with that. Anyway, i wont be looking for any more vids from this guy. 😢
