- This last weekend I was mowing with my CUB CADET LTX 1046 KW and all of the sudden the drive belt smoked and then broke. This video is my journey of getting the belt replaced. Hope you enjoy!!

An air or electric impact breaks the 5/8 bolt loose without having to hold the motor. No need to remove battery. All can be done from underneath. If the pulley is stuck on the shaft the 3 tabs can be bent back slightly to get the belt on, just make sure to bend them back.
Would make things easier. On the wanted list. Thanks for watching
All you needed was a pipe wrench to hold on to that drive pulley while loosening the 5/8 bolt. That would’ve prevented you from going crazy and saved you a lot of time. I’m doing the same thing on my lawn more today and hopefully the rest of your video will prove helpful to me.
Good luck my friend and I am glad to help. Thks
Awesome video. Finally someone who doesn't sugarcoat it.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video coming from a man in his early twenties who was never taught this stuff, it makes a world of difference for people like you to make content like this.
Also, For anyone who doesn’t have the KW version of this series, for the pulley under the fan I recommend taking the fan off because (at least on mine) there is a safety bracket preventing you from wedging the belt into the pulley, but with the fan removed the pulley pulls away from the bracket and allows the belt to easily be put on, it was just one 3/4” bolt holding the fan in place
I am glad I can help you out. This is why I do what I do. Thanks for watching & if you don’t all ready pls follow the channel.
I broke the bolt off while taking the bolt off the fan.Welded that thing shut lol
Thanks for posting this video! very helpful. My LTX 1046 has the Kawasaki 20 hp motor and the engine shroud comes off much easier by loosening 5 cover bolts (leave in but just loosen and removing the upper screen by taking out three screws on top that are easily accessible. Thanks again - great video!
Appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
If you have an impact wrench you don't need to take the shroud off. The impact will undo the bolt without removing the shroud.
@@3cybex Thanks a lot.
Use your leaf blower after each time you mow to clean the debris that accumulate on top of the deck.
I will keep that one n mind. Thanks for watching. Hope your following us. 👍
Just did my belt also and noticed the belt was rubbing against the steering shaft and could be part of the reason for the failed belt. I also replaced the steering bushing and gear. With the steering shaft out, you can see the drive belt is routed through the same location as the shaft. There's no room for adjusting it to provide more space. Bad design? Wish I could attach the photo I took of it.
Thanks for the info. They put a lot of things in a tight area.
LOL I've been working on mowers for over 40yrs and have never seen it done like this. LMAO
Well I am glad I could entertain you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks I have the same mower with a Briggs and Stration motor. It just quit pulling so I believe the drive belt is what’s gone
The drive belt run the hydraulics. Most likely
Every time this happens it’s usually because a pulley has locked up because it ran out of lubricant on pulley bearing.
@@copedennis1 My belt just failed. The pully and pump were fine.
@@watkinstreefarm6880 awesome. You must use it a lot. Cub cadets drive belt will usually last many years. The pulley system idler pulleys are notoriously weak.
I seem to have started a Lesco walk behind mower collection. I think the deck used on the floating deck Lescos is kin to Cub Cadet. They may have used the same deck on some models way back....but I sure have it lucky compared to you when it comes to changing belts. It takes just minutes on a walk behind. Great video! tHanks for posting it!
No problem. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the video big help.
Happy to do it and glad it turned out for you. Hope you check the channel out and subscribe.
👍👍
next time a pipe wrench works really well. thanks for the video.
Awesome!! Thanks for watching
Thanks, didn't know to use a screwdriver in the flywheel hole to stop the engine crank from turning. Alternatively, remove the spark plug, rotate the flywheel to move the piston to bottom of its stroke, then put about a foot or so of 3/8 inch diameter rope into the spark plug hole, hold the rope with your finger at the spark plug hole to prevent it from being shoved out as the flywheel is rotated to the top of its stroke. The rope stops the piston from moving which in turn stops the engine crank from turning. Then remove the engine crank / deck belt pulley bolt. Also, safety first, first thing would be to remove the battery to prevent accidental starting of the engine. BTW, really enjoyed the music! Oh, forgot to say, after re-installing the engine crank pulley and PTO clutch, remove the rope and screw the spark plug in.
Yeah. Don’t want to forget all that in the engine. Thanks for the advice. Take care.
@@watkinstreefarm6880 We changed ours using an impact wrench for the 5/8 bolt. Then there is no need to do the screw driver thing. Thank you.
@@rickmartell4362 Sounds like I need a good impact wrench!! Thanks.
You could also drop the mount bolts and move the motor over enough to get the belt off. Easily moved back in place
Sounds good. Hopefully I will never have to do this again. LOL
thank you so much
No Problem. I am glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. How many hours do you have on this Cub Cadet?
I will need to check and get back with you. I think around 250.
Didn't look like an easy job... but I loved your praising Jesus!
The job did end up being a little harder than I first thought. The world would be a better place if more people praised Jesus.
If u use impact wrench u avoid all the work on top holding the drive shaft
I have the same mower as you and the Cub Cadet website says I need 954-04207. But it seems to not be long enough maybe? I cannot get it to the front pulley. The belt you have 954-04297 says it will not fit my mower. (LT1046kw). Same as yours, right?
Yes that is my Mower. I show the belt number in the video. I had a hard time finding the correct number. The other place to look is when you lift the hood there is a sticker on the side of the cowling & it gives the correct number along with other replacement part numbers.
Thanks. Any issues getting it to stretch on to the front pulley?
@@jaredbarnes811 Not with the correct belt. I first secured the belt around the front pulley through the middle pulleys and did the rear pulley last. I compressed the spring underneath while my son slipped the rear pulley into place.
Hey, I hope you can follow us along .
What’s the part number for the 1046kw belt? I can’t find it anywhere.
954-04219 Deck Belt Thanks for watching!!
@@watkinstreefarm6880is that the same number for the drive belt? Tks
@@ekaybeane No. Drive Belt # 954-04297
Thank you very much@@watkinstreefarm6880
Needed a impact wrench to remove pulley.
Awesome. Glad it worked out. Thks for watching.
I should have watched a few more minutes of your video before I made a comment because I see you have the electric clutch and I do not so I had an area to put a pipe wrench on to hold it while loosening the 5/8 bolt to remove the drive pulley.
All good. Crazy how many versions of everything that is made anymore. Have a great weekend!!
Pit a pipe wrench on the engine shaft
Ok. Thanks for watching.
Does this dude have a patreon or something cause I'd love to kick him a few bucks. This video saved me a couple hundred bucks
I added a link in the description. Please tell me if that works for you. Thanks for watching!
Worked great! Thanks
Thank you!!
Thank you ! I use nails too.
LOL. A nail is what usually find the quickest & it works. Thanks for watching!!
Unbelievably long for no reason. Don’t even think about watching the first 5 minutes, total waste of time.
Thanks for watching!!
