Vera Plechash Granting that this pertains to the temptation of lust, is it not a testing of your faith to overcome? Is sickness not also a testing to overcome? If you have sickness, will you not be tempted to question and complain God just like in the case of Job? Is temptation only pertains to lust? Will you not be tempted to backslide and deny your faith after you loss your job, after your loved one dies? Will you not be tempted to steal when you are in poverty? Tell me?

As a retired coach of three sports, at all levels, of both sexes, I can assure you it was my job to push people beyond what they could handle so they knew that they could push beyond their current abilities. God is a much much much better coach than any who has ever lived! He will push you and show you just how strong you can be. We will need this if we are indeed the generation of the great tribulation. I’m having trouble just making it through the political minefield that we’ve created today let alone the great tribulation. It’s all just practice for whatever awaits each of us!

Yes, because kids who are wealthy enough to play sports experience the same circumstances as someone born into poverty and starvation. Christianity works in the West because we can give God credit for our convenient and easy lifestyles, and works in poverty stricken nations as a salve for the horrible circumstances they face. Why would the most secular nations in the world have the greatest quality of life? It almost seems like either God doesn't exist, or he chooses to bless the nations that have the least amount of believers? Nordic countries have some of the best quality of life metrics in the entire world, and yet they have some of the highest levels of secularism.

This is an awful practice. Consider my experience. In H.S. I wanted to play on the baseball team. The coach had a bunch of "stations" set up where one would do push ups & another sit-ups & runs & other exercises. So I got in line and proceeded to do as was expected. I gave it my all....being pushed by the philosophy the same as this retired "coach". By the time I got to the 4th or 5th "station" my body was completely exhausted. I was ready to pass out. I got up and walked out of the gym. If this is what playing baseball was going to require then I was just not good enough.
I went to the showers and got dressed. Meanwhile the "training" was over and the other kids asked me why I quit. I told them but they said I was the only kid in the gym who wasn't "dogging" it (not giving my all) and tried to talk me into not quitting. But I was ashamed of "under preforming" because of this kind of coaching philosophy. Never played baseball in H.S. because of it. H.S. baseball is not the military and should never be treated as such. And people are not all the same. And do you think my "coach" ever said a word of encouragement? Shame on him for breaking a kid's spirit and robbing him of having fun playing a little baseball.

I feel like crying about this truth... I lost my baby and from there started the downward spiral of my life and my marriage... I was bitter at God, i felt entitled bcz of thinking like this that He is for me in my life (but in my carnal desires)... and I fell way out of my fellowship with Him, in depression, rebellion and hopelessness... God in His goodness, with the help of other Christians who counselled us, and we have now repented, continually walking faithfully to His every word, totally dependent on Him in everything and redeemed from our dark past. Thank You Lord... that You revealed yourself to me in my suffering therefore I rejoice to know that my life is not about me... my life is about You!! I love you Jesus.

I believe that whatever circumstances that God allows in our lives, He will, through the Holy Spirit, empower us to endure and overcome in the end. The problem most of us Christians have is thinking that we can't go through trials if we are born again. God says that He will be with us in the fire and water. We won't be burned or drowned but it might hurt.

    • @CoolRobeH
      @CoolRobeH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

"In the end", does this refer to us continuing life on this earth after the circumstance? How does this reconcile with the fact that many of the early disciples were martyred for their faith in Christ? Stephen was stoned to death (Acts 7:54-60), others crucified, etc. The power and hope of Jesus Christ provides us not an "if then" faith, where our faith in God is dependent on whether we get through the fire or water, but an "EVEN IF" faith, that even if we don't survive whatever physical circumstance, that our hope is in the blood of Christ, who fully paid for our egregious debt of sin.
I do think the situation changes when we transition from "life circumstances like persecution" (as mentioned above) TO "temptations on our soul from the devil"
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

I recently had a kidney transplant. The doctors never tested my bladder before hand. It caused horrible complications. I had been on dialysis from age 21-37. This supposed ‘verse was repeated many times over to me but I knew it was no where in the Bible. I knew something was very wrong because the pain and suffering I endured was far beyond what I could endure. This saying made me feel as though I had stepped out of God’s will. I became suicidal because I felt I was being punished for being disobedient or that I missed obvious warning signs. Thankfully The word of God and his love allowed me to seek therapy and endure. I still have severe medical issues and the kidney transplant is failing due to the damage caused by there decisions. Short of a miracle I will end up back on dialysis. People please read the book for yourselves and don’t be so reliant on church. If something goes wrong people will be quick to make it your fault instead of saying I don’t know what the answer is. God bless.

Happy Birthday & Happy 1-year RPL Anniversary, mr.B! Here's a cake AND an apple: 🎂🍎Btw, I found almost 50 NT verses in the Bible talking about warnings of hate, persecution and trouble for His followers. Maybe Joel should start open the Bible in his sermons, instead of just holding it up with the crowd in beginning in that mantra?🤔

"God will not give you more than you can handle. If you have a big challenge today, that means you have a big destiny"
      1 Corinthians 10 : 13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; HE WILL NOT LET YOU BE TEMPTED BEYOND WHAT YOU CAN BEAR. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
I think this is the verse for that quote for you not to also misled others.

When people say that, let’s say a terminal diagnosis is something to which they would say “God doesn’t give you more than you can handle”
I know feel compelled to ask exactly what it is that falls into the realm of what I can’t handle that God wouldn’t give me IF NOT A TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS!? 🤦🏻‍♂️

I had a daughter born at 24 weeks, spent 4 months in the hospital and then came home with a nicu of equipment. I didn't sleep for more than two hours per day for a year (no naps, I couldn't leave her unmatched or she could literally die). I heard this phrase a lot from people. I could not handle it, but God did. Now my daughter is thriving as a 3 year old and equipment free! I praise God for that outcome but we were submissive to what God's will for her and us was. It was most definitely more than I could handle. But God handled it in his own time in his own way. There were so many things outside of our control, so many times when we were asked to give of ourselves when we had nothing left. God is capable of anything, I don't have to be capable of everything.

God never promised to deliver us from suffering. Just from spiritual death. When I messed my leg up I never blamed God. Oh I was mad. Not at him. But myself. I prayed and got peace but through that I mostly recovered. So keep moving further and pray. Sure enough we can make it through the storm. I'm not saying we won't suffer. But we can make it through it. Fall. Then rise higher than where you were before.

I completely agree. I believe that God wants to build us in proper understanding, and that sometimes He allows us to confront catastrophes because He, in his omniscience, knows that those catastrophes are our path to spiritual growth. When things are fine, people party. When things go bad, people ponder. Because we are eternal, because we are children of God, his highest priority is that we progress in true wisdom and love.

Just came across this video. Have been dealing with a season of suffering myself and more than one well meaning christian has said this to me.
I think it brings up another problem the sin of self sufficiency. If someone says that to me my thought is then "oh i must be stronger than i thought, God knows i have some hidden strength that i dont know about". Instead of relying on Him i am looking to myself. What i say about my current suffering is that im completely overwhelmed but thats ok. He is in charge and i will rely on Him.

I’ve never truly suffered in my life (although there was that time when my mom was diagnosed with cancer but for some reason I wasn’t worried and knew she would be fine….. maybe it’s bad I wasn’t scared? Idk) and I’m my head it makes it harder to share the gospel because people be like, “well you don’t know my situation and how bad it is.” And I’m like, “yup, my whole family is whole, I’ve never seen a divorce, never had close relatives/friends die, I have the American syndrome (too much stuff, for which I feel guilty because so much of the world has so much less than I do), I don’t live in the best house in the world but my parents own it and it’s a good house… so yeah, I don’t know or have any concept even of what you are going through.” Jesus does because he was a human at one point, but in my head it doesn’t make any sense for a non-believer to accept that because they (usually) can’t meet Jesus and he lived 2000 years ago. I mean, even the Bible says that the wisdom of God is folly for men (or something along those lines, I don’t know the exact reference). All that being said, I wouldn’t/shouldn’t be completely surprised (after some contemplation) if some great tragedy happened to my life within the next few years. So boom, inside scoop on what has been pressing on JTRaptor’s heart as of the last few months. Dunno where I was going with all this but here it is lol

As a Christian trauma survivor and trauma survivor advocate who grew up in and left a church that believed this when she was 15 years old. I am so appreciative of this argument against that slogan. Bad things happen we live in a broken world. And yes sometimes there are things that are more than we can handle that are not our fault or God's fault. But God is still good and faithful because He is enough to rely on and He is strong enough for us to lean on. God has given me older Christians who are also trauma survivors to look up to and to learn from. And God has given me Christians who are not trauma survivors who are still willing to support me in my journey of healing. On top of that God gave me an amazing Christian counselor who is very affordable when I came to realize that this is too much for me. And that doesn't make me a weaker Christian as a Christian I must learn to rely on God more and more. Would I say that God caused all of this trauma to teach me to rely on Him? No because none of this is His fault. I would say that God uses the brokenness of this world to teach us to rely on Him. I am not grateful for the brokenness I am grateful for the ability to rely on Him that God has made stronger. The brokenness is not responsible for my ability to rely on God becoming stronger. I give God the full credit for that strength that I've gained. So no matter what we face trauma, poverty, grief, sickness, depression etc. we can take comfort in the fact that we have somebody all-powerful to rely on and we have the family of God to confine in. Is every member of the family God perfect? No, are they going to hurt us sometimes? Yeah. Are there going to be some people who will pretend to be a part of the family of God that will hurt us? Yeah. Is God still good and strong enough for us to lean on no matter what is happening. Oh Yeah!!! My rant is done. Just had to say this because I appreciate your argument against that slogan that God will not give you more than you can handle because that slogan has only added to my pain.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.
