      Yes! But people pretend like teaching kids about it is the same as sexual abuse. Tho I wonder if some just do it out of convenience so their kid doesn't shout it in a mall (which is also not a fair reason). There is this borderline perverse idealization of childhood ignorance that equates it to Innocence, especially in girls. A child should not be subjective to abuse, but they won't suddenly be scared of the world just because they now know what the thing between their legs is called.

    It's actually terrifying that Dr. Jones' content can be seen as 'racy' or 'explicit' when it's so clearly educational. I really fear for those in schools where they are denied access to legitimate scientific information on reproductive health and other issues in the medical field. The content MDJ presents is accurate, informative, and easy to understand. Someone like her explaining reproductive health to schools is precisely what is needed, not someone who will shy away at the first mention of the word 'vulva' lest it be too explicit for them. As a conservative Christian parent, I encourage my children to watch educational videos that people like you put out. I may not agree with everything that you believe, but it’s important that children get the facts first, and THEN discuss morality and beliefs. I have feelings about the way my children should live, but if they don’t choose to live that way, I want them to live safely. I want them to know their options and the risks involved, good bad and ugly.
    Also, I legitimately thought that the morning after pill prevented implantation. Which wasn’t a problem for me, it still doesn’t “end” a pregnancy, not in my opinion at least. But I learned something new today!

    • @Adara007
      @Adara007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +101

      That's a good approach to have and one I wish my own parents had held. It is extremely important for children to have access to facts like MDJ channel provides. It enables them to understand how reproductive systems operate and about issues involving not just sex but preventing or avoiding unwanted pregnancies and also about informed consent. These issues are unfortunately often not discussed by many parents with strong religious beliefs and most private schools who such parents usually choose for their children to attend reinforce such an approach. That leaves any children caught up with that type of situation without important information unless they find it online.
      My own childhood was like that where my mother was far too embarrassed to mention more than the most rudimentary of reproductive functions and sex was absolutely taboo with abstinence being the only focus until one was married. The private high school I attended was quite religiously dogmatic and didn't teach any sex education besides screening a graphic anti-abortion film which was designed to inculcate female students with a belief that any abortion was a sin that would send them to hell. Growing up in this situation the unspoken message was that the female body was dirty and sinful and topics like informed consent were never discussed and nor was gender issues since the slightest reference to non-heterosexual individuals resulted in heavy condemnation of them and their so-called perverted practices. As a woman who grew up with dogmatic parents I can say that a lot of psychological harm is caused by attitudes like theirs and it is so important for any students and especially young girls to have access to educational videos like MDJ and that schools should allow this. It's great that you encourage your children to watch such videos and it is a refreshing change considering many conservative Christian parents are like mine were. Your children will grow up with a healthy understanding about and knowledge of their bodies and will be appreciative of your open-minded approach. Best wishes for the New Year from Australia.

      @@Adara007 Thanks! I sure hope I’m doing the right thing. The fact is, any parent who doesn’t give their children all of the information, is doing them a disservice. We cannot claim to be good parents, or good Christians, if we only give our children part of the information. They deserve to make decisions for themselves, just like my husband and I did. And frankly, I didn’t wait until marriage to have sex. A woman my husband dated previously, had an abortion. How can we provide them with guidance if we aren’t being honest with ourselves and them?

(To supplement the Sex Ed she has had both at home and at school)
      My daughters also might know more than most their age because my husband and I have had to explain miscarriages and tubal pregnancies to them when they were young. When mommy suddenly isn't pregnant any more or has emergency surgery you figure out real quick how to explain hard topics appropriately to 5 year olds. And they handled it fine and we can talk openly and without shame about what our bodies do. I didn't grow up with such openness and it's incredibly important to me to be open with my kids.

      In response to the latter part of your statement, I find it very bizarre that some parents try to keep kids away from sex-related learning, when doing so actually *would* cause the "forbidden fruit" effect. The more you try to keep them away from it, the more appealing and interesting it becomes. Having proper knowledge and understanding of biological sex-related topics would generally keep this from becoming a problem. Scares me how people who make decisions for the education of young children can’t even be bothered to do their own research. I’m embarrassed for Fairbanks.

      MamaDoctorJones, if that school board knew the actual facts, they would understand that you are an educator, not a harlot. But they have spent their lives thinking that sex is dirty and nasty, and anyone talks about it must be dirty and nasty. They're uncomfortable with any conversation about sex, especially if you are able to remain relaxed and confident. I feel sorry for people who are that repressed. It becomes self-hatred when (or if) they find sex pleasurable, and they feel shame regarding any discussion about "lady parts". I'm old, and my generation was taught to be ashamed of sex, when suddenly birth control pills came out, and feminism made us do a 180, and generally speaking, we all became pretty promiscuous.

We talk about relationships (platonic as well as romantic), gender, consent, contraceptives, and lots more. Your videos actually help me to get the facts straight for example about pregnancy (since I’ve never had a pregnancy myself, but am required to teach children about what happens after fertilization). It’s all about what children can handle developmentally. A 4 year old doesn’t need to know all about sex and pregnancy, but you can tell them about where baby’s come from without it being “racy” or inaccurate.

In the 3rd grade, it was all science with "oh, by the way, people are mammals". In 5th grade, it was focused on what was coming for girls. I think we had this with boys and girls together. 6th grade repeated that, with some discussion of embarrassing things that can happen to boys. 8th grade a repeat, and 10th grade, a repetition with more discussions of responsibility, relationships and what it means to be in a loving relationship. We had assignments that required us to talk to our parents and write a little about what they said, so it actively asked parents to provide their opinions and moral guidance. I think it was great.

      True. As a teenager from a country that does not prioritize sex ed, I've seen people my age suffer from lack of information about menstruation, STDs and contraceptives so we often see cases of teen pregnancies. Any topic regarding sex and genitalia is somewhat considered taboo so us younger people would just have to find infos ourselves lmao. In my life (I'm currently in highschool right now), I only experienced one sex ed class because they just stopped after showing us a video of how sex works and the risks without explaining further. I never got the "talk" either so I just found out about sex by accidentally stumbling to the more adult-y side of the internet lol
      I do hope they'll prioritize sex ed more in the future because I was lucky enough to find this channel to learn more about my body but it might not be the same case for other teens that doesn't really dive into this type of topic

      There is no reason for woman of any age to feel shame or have low self confidence or self esteem because of a natural, normal experience.
      What is so sad about the lack of Sexual Education is that it's more than "P goes into V". What it needs to be is *both* young boys & girls learning about their bodies what is normal or not & when its important to see a Doctor. And, for both to know that pre- period and during period issues can affect more than just the body. And Birth Control pills are used for treating other hormone related problems like PMS & cramps.
      I don't know if you ever watched the YT videos on the " Period cramps simulator " that guys put on their lower abdomen to learn "the experience". Most of the videos are " fun" but its something every male should have to experience.

      parents/schools can't accept their children arent going to wait until a wholesome, christian marriage to have sex with one, lifelong partner. if they teach the bare minimum, they absolve themselves from any blame (students getting pregnant, spreading any stds, etc) because they taught abstinence only, and it's the child's fault for not listening. a lot of people think teaching in-depth sex ed courses "encourages" sex, but what they dont understand is its going to happen anyway, and if they really wanted to prevent those things, real sex ed actually reduces rates of teen pregnancy and std transmission. it baffles me
