  • The final installment of the week is “Jack The Ripper” a song that George grew up listening to and which has been previously unrecorded to the best of our knowledge.
“This song is very dear to me. For as long back as I can remember my father sung this song at parties, always acapella and with that tongue in cheek element. The origins of the song are unknown and I’m pretty sure this is the first ever recording of it. I wrote the opening verse to give it some length and had to make a few lyrical changes from how I originally heard it but I think the overall essence of the song and story has remained the same”
George Murphy is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. He has been in the industry for over 15 years and will be releasing new music very soon with the band “George Murphy and The Rising Sons”.

    Lyrics:
1888 it is not safe to be a woman
On the dark and dreary streets
    Of Whitechapel London
    Because stalking those streets
    Is a murderous figure
    Better known by police as
Leather apron or jack the ripper
    The night was getting dark
    Suzy Bell began to shiver
    She was all alone
    Down by the river
She was a good time chorus girl
And she danced with a golden slipper
But now she’s dancing in hell cause she met jack the ripper
Oh man tell me man who’s this famous jack the ripper
Who’ll cut ya from head to toe
And then sling you in the river
With a blood stained butchers knife
He will cut you up like a kipper
    You’ll be gone surely gone
If you meet jack the ripper
Some say he’s 6 feet tall
    Some say he’s even bigger
With an eye in the back of his head
In a top hat and a slicker
Well no one seems to know yet like a jelly they all shiver
When they hear the name of
    the famous jack the ripper
So when the sun goes down
Be sure that you are sleeping
For just like mack the knife
Round the corner he is creeping
And if ya bump into him
He will cut out your liver
So take good care my friends
    I AM JACK THE RIPPER
