Sina Theil and Caitríona O’Sullivan celebrate a number 1 single in the main Irish charts and also Irish Country charts with the first female released duet of the iconic song “The Fields of Athenry” to mark International Women’s Day week and St. Patrick’s Day.
“There’s a very powerful female story within this beautiful yet heartbreaking song; the story of a mother left alone to fight for her and her young children’s survival during the Great Famine of Ireland. A fate that, sadly, is still a reality for many women around the world today.”
“The Fields of Athenry” is available on all major download and streaming sites: linktr.ee/sina...

You both deserve all the praise you get Caitriona. From an older Irish man living in Boston 33 years. I’m not ashamed to say I shed a small tear during your recital!!😘

This song touches my heart. I was a British soldier who ended up in Lurgan in the mid 70's and had my eyes opened to the Truth about the illegal occupation of Ireland and the persecution of the Catholic population, it sickened me when I learnt the history of the occupation and it convinced me I had no right to be there as a soldier so I got out. I went to Eire about 20 years ago to and had a really great time with such a nice nation.
Thank you for your understanding. It's much appreciated 🌹
I served in Northern Ireland as well as a British soldier and i think the way you do!🤔
God bless ya son my great grandfater died in the Boar war i feel the Irish big time but love good folk in England too the crown is slipping 🍀🎶😇
"Nothing matters Mary when you're free" One of the greatest lines in all of Irish music.
I am from Mexico and I love the brave Irish people... their history, their beautiful country, their music and their beer... I will surely visit Ireland one day
Absolutely! The green Emerald Isle will welcome you like only she can 🍀
Batallón de San Patricio!!!

@@SinaTheilMusic Thank you! I first approached Irish history through the novel TRINITY
I am from Ireland and I visited Mexico often on business. I was treated like family and I loved the Mexican people; so like Irish people in many ways😊😊
God bless the people of Ireland.

A native German, Ireland is the home of my heart, and I still plan to move to this island someday. And I just love this kind of music Thanks a million, Ladies, and please do more music together. 👍
Only the Germans helped the Irish. Supplied guns. We Gaels have not forgotten. God bless Germany.
And Ireland as well, pretty please, Mightty Lord. 🙂

Like Ireland itself, this song is beautiful and haunting at the same time. Thanks ladies. 🇺🇸🇮🇪
In my old age, I sure find myself being attracted to Irish country music. What a splendid performance.
And probably attracted to these beautiful Irish ladies, yeah?
@@terencemageeShhh, don't tell anyone.
@@jayjaynella4539 This is Irish traditional music, or folk music. Not 'country' music.
When God wants to hear music he calls on the Irish angels .
I love the sound of women's voices in that alto range.
super Lied ich liebe die Irische Musik
How beautiful! My Gram left for the USA during this period alone at age 15. She never spoke of the loneliness starvation and hurt. You sang this so touchingly and humanly THANK YOU Go mbeannaí Dia thú araon
My mother left Ireland at the age of 16. She became a proud American but never once did she forget her roots and history back home. The music always made her cry. I miss you Mom.
This is my favourite Irish song. Having been married to a Kilkenny woman for over 35 years before she passed.
Yank here, married to a lady with roots in County Clare. She sings this to me regularly. So sorry for your loss of your.
I’m was born an English boy in 1953 but my grandfather was born in Ireland but i will never forget where my heart was from
It's amazing to hear our beautiful language spoken fluently 🇮🇪☘️💚🤍🧡☘️🇮🇪
Love Irish Songs 😊
Two historic events that are not taught in my country of the UK. The HIghland Clearances in Scotland and The Great Famine in Ireland. Growing up as a child of Scotland in the 1970s, where even my local language of Doric was discouraged in school; I now understand why we were taught about other 'great' events. The two world wars and the industrial revolution. It's never too late to learn the shameful events.
I understand your feelings. My family emigrated from Ireland to Lancashire in UK like so many other Irish, due to an Gorta Mór. I have never even been to Ireland, or had the chance to learn the Gaelic. But there is another shameful event: Cromwell's intended genocide of the Irish people. In England they even have statues of that murdering bastard, streets are named after him, there is even a portrait of him in their parliament. In Germany they at least have the inner decency not to have a portrait of Adolf Hitler in the Bundestag, or to have any streets named 'Adolf-Hitler-Strasse'.
Lest we forget !!
the great difference is: Hitler lost. So his bad deed was seen. The bad deeds of the winners are called victory.
Sad. very sad.
Wonder why our history was not taught to us.?..
And in Botany Bay and most of Australia the history of the First Nations people is still not taught...!!
This song is about love and what you take for granted until it has gone ! The first time I heard it was in Tenerife by an Irish lady called Michelle, I went In the Bullshead every night just to hear her sing it and fell in love with irish singers and folklore such as Luke Kelly . This is a very lovely cover Thankyou 😍
I am English, my wife from Hospital, County Limerick.
Six Nations Rugby aside we get on “shoulder to shoulder”!
Man, what a beautiful rendition, by two amazing ladies, and well-shot. As good as it gets.

When I here this song it reminds me of my nan and grandad who despite both being Scottish have Irish ancestry and went to a local Irish club where I grew up and when this was sung my grandad would sing along and it brings a tear to my eye as I remember them as they are no longer with us ❤❤❤❤

Nothing has brought ne back to that time I spent in Ireland than this beautiful, beautiful song and the songbirds that did justice to it. Thank you, thank you.
*I couldn't find a video with lyrics, but alas:*
"By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling...
"Michael, they have taken you away...
For you stole Trevelyan's corn,
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay..."
Low lie the fields of Athenry,
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling,
'Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free...
Against the famine and the crown
I rebelled; they cut me down
Now you must raise our child with dignity.'
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
By a lonely harbour wall,
She watched the last star falling,
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky...
For she lived in hope and pray,
For her love in Botany Bay...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry...
Low lie the fields of Athenry,
Where once we watched the small free birds fly...
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing...
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry..."

If you haven't heard this song, you've never been to an Irish pub. I've heard it many times, but this is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Thank you young ladies. You were born to sing this song.
As an Englishman, frequenting an Irish members club as often as I do, I've heard this song a million times, sang dozens of different ways. But this one brought me to tears. Cracking job, ladies. Erin Go Bragh! 🥲

Such a sad but beautiful song; Ladies your voices are Angelic! Thank you for touching an old soul!
@@klsmith0722 thanks for listening and the lovely comment!
Beautiful song though it is a sad song sung so well by these 2 beautiful ladies with such wonderful voices.
I admire the brave Irish people who survived the Great Famine caused by the potato blight from 1845 to 1852.
My own grandparents died in the great famine of China in the early 1900's.
Pray it will never happen again anywhere in the world again.
I agree about the two ladies but the last bad famine was in Russia/Ukraine around WW1. The Bolsheviks did that on purpose. Somewhere between 60,000,000 to 100,000,000. The same group is trying to do it to USA and white Europe. Also Australia. So pray but start helping yourself by stocking up on what you can
With respect, there was more to the Irish famine than Potato Blight..Chris Fogartys book tells how the English shipped out the Irish Cattle and Sheep to England in Ships made from the finest Irish oak Forests..I have not read his book but have listened to his interview on an Irish Channel.

I’m so sorry for your loss. May they see you in heaven someday.

I've been to Ireland about 6 times and loved the pubs with irish music playing and loved every minute of it my great grandad came from Ireland birthplace unknown I think it might have been about the time of the potatoe famine so that's where the blood in came from I'm so proud❤❤❤
A wonderful version of the old folk song...! I can't imagine that about 1.000.000 irish people died because of starving from 1845-49! Thanx to you both Sina & Caitriona ! Well done! 🥰
And another 1,000,000 or more had to leave everything behind and emmigrate in harsh conditions to save their lives...
Just unbelievable I am of Irish descent love these girls butifull xxx
From England. Have many friends north and south of the border, have also studied Irish history. We both live on very small islands off the coast of Europe. Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland share a brutal but shared past. We are probably the most culturally diverse piece of land in the world. That saying ….Poke one with a stick and the other three will respond in support!
Greetings from Estonia! This old Irish folk ballad is the pride of the Irish. An extremely beautiful performance from charming maidens. The song penetrates deep into the soul. I love this musical story with historical content! Beautiful! 🌏⚓⚓⚓
Not so old Was written in 1979
Thank you, Larry! What I do know is that the song was written by Pete StJohn. I was probably thinking about the content of the song about the events of 1840 in the history of the Irish.
My grandparents were Irish. Loved our heritage , Irish- Burmese ( Dad&Mum) but still loved our Irish family connection! Married a beautiful girl from Belfast in 1974. Still married with 5 lovely Kids & 6 awesome grandkids in Essex. Love the Irish and my family everywhere. Having said that playing &singing is a great part of our family!🤔✍️🎸🕺🏻👏👍
Never really listened to this song before. I mean really listened to it. Now I'm crying it's just so bloody perfect. Wonderful, girls, just wonderful
Our family arrived here in the States in 1867. Raised in the Irish way .This song still brings tears.. 😢
Very nice song with a talented song writer.
Beautiful version I’m from Scotland love the Irish spirit you’ll never beat the Irish ❤️
One of my favourite songs. ❤
Such a beautiful rendition by Sina and Caitriona.
Most beautiful song I’ve heard in a long while. Makes me think of an old photo I have that was taken in Dublin in the late 1800’s of my grandmother and great grandmother. As a teenager my grandmother and a girlfriend of hers later came to America by themselves, brave girls. They’ve all passed long ago but all things Irish make me tear up.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME BEAUTIFULLY SUNG I HAVE HEARD THIS SONG SUNG SO MANY TIMES BUT I MUST SAY I THINK THIS WAS THE BEST
@@brucerayner1260 thank you! So delighted to hear that! Please support by sharing with friends and family and subscribing to the channel 🙂
I'm an Aussie with 5 convicts - all Irish - in my ancestry including a woman on the 2nd Fleet. This song haunts my nights, every night, since it first played on my TH-cam. Stoicism. Strength of character. Faith in a better outcome. Beautifully sung, thank you ladies.
My great grandfather left Roscommon in the famine. Moved to Boston and dominated the primary care health scene in South Boston south end for next generation. Ireland strong!,
Every time I hear this it chills my heart as hunger still exists and the children still pay the price in suffering!
We know when we are contained, but how do we know we are really free?
This is a masterpiece sung well!
Beautiful!
Beautiful. Never heard a bad cover of this. Probably Ireland's finest.
Just beautiful! Thank you from the state of Maine, USA

Wow, you feel the pain and desperation of the Famine...Beautiful song, brilliant performance
Thank you! So much appreciated!
The potato famine was by no means limited to Ireland but the system of monoculture in the West rendered it catastrophic.
Simply beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes!
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
No statement is more true!
Wow beautiful brilliant voice love y thank you ladies 👏👏🎸😍🍀☘️🇮🇪
Paddy Reilly's versions have been my favorites so far, but now I've found a perfect and heart-touching rendition.
Thank you! His version is indeed beautiful, so we feel honoured!
Particularly, the one from a pub after someone’s Funeral, with many joining in on the choruses and several musicians playing along.
