- The first instalment for this week is “Roll The Old Chariot” a “stamp and go” or a “walk away” sea shanty.
“In searching for songs [for The Stable Sessions] it was recommended to me to take a listen to some old sea shanties. When I researched I found many beauts but this was my pick of the bunch.”
George Murphy is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. He has been in the industry for over 15 years and will be releasing new music very soon with the band “George Murphy and The Rising Sons”.

Lyrics:
A drop of Nelsons blood wouldn”t do us any harm
A drop of Nelsons blood wouldn”t do us any harm
A drop of Nelsons blood wouldn”t do us any harm
And we’ll all hang on behind
We’ll be alright if the wind is in our sails
We’ll be alright if the wind is in our sails
We’ll be alright if the wind is in our sails
And we’ll all hang on behind
Chorus:
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
And we’ll all hang on behind
We’ll be alright if we make it round the horn
We’ll be alright if we make it round the horn
We’ll be alright if we make it round the horn
And we’ll all hang on behind
A bowl of irish stew wouldn’t do us any harm
A bowl of irish stew wouldn’t do us any harm
A bowl of irish stew wouldn’t do us any harm
And we’ll all hang on behind
Chorus:
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
And we’ll all hang on behind
Another glass of whiskey wouldn’t do us any harm
Another glass of whiskey wouldn’t do us any harm
Another glass of whiskey wouldn’t do us any harm
And we’ll all hang on behind
Well another night ashore wouldn’t do us any harm
Well another night ashore wouldn’t do us any harm
Well another night ashore wouldn’t do us any harm
And we’ll all hang on behind
Chorus:
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
And we’ll all hang on behind
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
We’ll roll the old chariot along
And we’ll all hang on behind

The North Water brought me here
Very cool!
@@vaahtobileet This song is played during the end credits of each episode in a slightly different style or singer
@@moomoopuppy508 No, it's not.
@@vaahtobileet Yes they are. I just listened to the end credits again and right away episode 1 and 2 are different. The end credits song is sung by a large number of people (I believe its this version from the 2010 Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival th-cam.com/video/49FWp7WLYKw/w-d-xo.html }. The second episode end-credits song is sung by a single person .The third episode is back to a group singing, but it sounds softer as if they were far away. The forth doesn't have any singing whatsoever and is just the score/instrumental music. Lastly the fifth and final song is the same one as the first episode. The first and last episodes both have a person saying "hoo!" or "woo!" at 58:48
HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 250 LIKES!??!?!?!!?!????
This is great!
One of my favourite shanties, and an interesting interpretation of it, rendering it in a more everyday song-style.
My favourite (thus far) traditional, shanty version however is David Coffin's performance at the Portsmouth Festival.
He gives it some blood.
This is by far my favourite version of this song. Well done lads!
Thanks a million!
Stumbled upon this on TH-cam Music and I'm so glad I did! Exquisite rendition of this song
