Hi musty, dont forget sometimes David used in 1994 P2 muff before the overdrive. I think he used It earlier in the tour and not in the pulse official, Just during time maybe, but not in comfortably numb, a video show his looper and he was using CS2 > TD > big muff as Always
Good video! Something that's also commonly done is using a compressor in front set up with a slight unity boost. The also gives like those clicky notes. Nice edgy!
How I have my pedalboard setup for David tones is my Friedman be-od pedal into big muff into rotary sim. I don’t focus on using the Friedman for drive since enough is coming from the muff and rotary but I use it to tighten up the muddy low end as well as it makes those gilmour pinch harmonics a lot easier with the big muff. Give it a try sometime
The effect is much better noticed if there is no jam track in the background. Also, the text in white and rather very small font can't be read comfortably (numb). Good video on boosting the beast. Cheers.
First of all your playing is awesome and very inspiring. My take on it is it depends on the muff you have. I have the green Russian (shown here) as well as the triangle and the Ram’s Head. The beauty of the green Russian is that it doesn’t have to be boosted, but the other 2 do. I like to put the boost before the muff if I’m using the triangle or Ram’s Head, but use the green Russian on its own.
@mustyguitar Do you still recommend looking for a used Laney Cub12r for playing at bedroom volumes or is there a newer version with the 1 watt option that you would suggest?
I bought mine used yeaaaars ago. I haven’t even changed anything ever since. Not even tubes :) Now I haven’t tried the newer versions but if Laney wants to sponsor me, I’d very much like to try
I know this is about muff and boost, but have you ever tried the Vick Audio V-2? Its kinda like two pedals rolled into one. Or if a RAT and a muff had a baby. I believe it is supposed to be a clone of the Pete Cornish G-2. It gets great Gdansk tones. That's actually my favorite tone. It's very minimal. I either use the V-2, or the rams head reissue into a Colorsound Powerboost clone for the late 70s tones. Great video!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of David Gilmour’s iconic sounds. Can you recommend a good substitute for the Boss RT-20 at the end of the signal chain? Thank you
I keep a Tube Driver before the Muffs and a TD-X after because what I prefer seems to change day to day or depending on what I'm playing. But generally speaking, I typically prefer the Tube Driver on prior to a Civil War Muff, and the TD-X on after a Ram's Head or Triangle Muff. The TD-X kind of smooths out the Ram's Head or Triangle, while the Civil War is already smoother and doesn't need the drive after it. I probably spend too much time stomping on these pedals rather than playing though 🤣
The hiss noise will always be there. If you're playing then you won't hear it. If there's a backing track playing you definitely won't hear it. The noise gate will only help when you're not playing.
My tube driver after ram's head (or byoc triangle muff) never work well, I prefer tube driver before in the chain, it helps muff in sound defintion imo
I have the exact opposite experience, I tried this and that, TD before the muff just makes the muff sound dirtier and nothing more, and after that the sound has more density and character of the TD
Yeah I guess everyone has different taste. I actually like to use the muff all alone but lately I’m very wet about boost side of the engine pedal going into a big muff.
Some switching must be involved - there is no way all these could be in chain at the same time = signal loss - noise issues - impedance problems etc etc

I see it all the time on movies and various videos and it's very difficult to make out what it says when the print and background are close to the same color. It's not being overly critical. It's an honest request that makes sense.
Thanks for the suggestion man, you’re right, but I always thought those are just my comments so it shouldn’t just be more than catching your eye. I’ll change it in the next videos though

This is amazing !! I litteraly just got those two pedals and couldn’t wish for a better video !! Incredible tones, and incredible skills, huge thanks
You got it Vincent!
So, are you getting this tone out of them?

Excellent video 👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the knowledge!
I have these two pedals but I'm missing David G's fingers to sound like him 😂😂
But thanks to you, I'm working on it...

What do you think about reissued Ram’s head? Would that do without boost? Character wise?

Thanks Spaceman
Dawned Prince Pulse is great for it and for some tones its better
@@mustyguitar Thank you for the recommendation. Look forward to your next video. 🎸
great!

I’m guilty of it too. I play with the pedals way more than I play the guitar
Pedals snaps are real settings used by u?
yeap
Great video!! Question? How do you get rid of the hiizzzzzzzz noise of the fuzz? Noise gate?
The hiss noise will always be there. If you're playing then you won't hear it. If there's a backing track playing you definitely won't hear it. The noise gate will only help when you're not playing.
Step on the footswitch near the bottom of the pedal. It engages the internal noise gate.
Are u using the stock speaker, if so what speaker would you recommend?
It’s stock but vintage 30s are great
6:38 😱
That hurt a bit
Can you make a video about boosting a RAT? I want to replace my big muff for a RAT clone for more versatility.
Well, rat is great but does it need boost? I’m not sure…
I preferred the sound of Overdrive before Muff, seems to be more controlled.
understandable. cheers!
Can i use boss SD1 to boost big muff than BD2?
SD-1 is less good for boosting from my experience. Doesn't really add much volume, it's more a tube screamer style pedal.
Please un tutoriel sur steve Rothery ;Marillion

@@andreybylI agree with you….. but of course completely different set up and ears!!!!!!

Heard of buffers?
Please don't put white text on a white background
When is your video, with better production, coming out?
