That’s the rack one right? That sounds amazing on keyboard as I’ve heard but I don’t know how it sounds on guitar. Does it have a blend knob? How do you use it?
For anyone who can’t afford or find a RT 20, here’s two alternatives- 1) Danelectro Big Spender. It’s a great Leslie sim pedal with a ramp feature. Great for all early Floyd stuff. The RT 20 is better, imho, at simulating the tones of the Yamaha and the Doppola speakers from “PULSE”. Thankfully, I found an alternative for it- 2) the Boss ME-25. It has a rotary effect, which uses the same COSM tech used on the RT 20. It’s also available for under $150 used (I got mine for $70). You can tweet the settings to match most RT 20 settings; you can also use the memory banks as a ramp to switch to faster speeds. A bonus- you get some great delays you can also throw into the mix, plus a volume/expression pedal. If you can’t find an affordable RT 20, this is the way to go, imho.
I wasn’t too familiar with the tones of this pedal until I came across your channel and it definitely sounds great, sucks they don’t make it anymore but there are a lot of great alternatives like the Strymon Lex (bit more on the pricey side but definitely worth it) and of course the Dawner Prince Pulse
dawner prince pulse would be a better choice, no affiliation. because it has a blend knob and it's designed to sound like gilmour's doppala speakers from pulse concert. lex is a leslie one and it doesn't have a blend knob. I love lex though. the best leslie sim out there.
Maybe a little off topic, but one technique I've been playing with is to use the RT-20 to get a 2 channel stero input into Amplitude5. You just need to remeber to set the input channel selection in Amplitude to be 2 channel stero. By using two seperate channels, you can get a much thicker sound. Although you can achieve the same setup with any pedal with seperate stero outputs (choris and flanger typically), by using the RT-20 you get a much thicker and better modulated sound in my opinion.
I’m an owner of a Yamaha ra 200 and a motion sound srv-112 cab. They sound incredible, especially the Yamaha. But if I’m being honest you can get a sound that’s just as good with simulators in a stereo set up. Have your simulator going to a second amp only after the pedal board with the rotary effect on the pedal maxed so the amp is essentially a rotary cab. I never use the real deal because of how heavy it is but it is cool to hear it in person.
Had the MD200 sold it quite quickly as it doesn’t have a blend knob. It’s a level knob which effects the over all level. Not the blend of dry and wet signal which is paramount.
I've heard about it but I have no experience with any Line 6 product or sim. what do you think about it? how are you enjoying it? do you have sound clips I can listen to? is there blend knobs or split signals?
@mustyguitar there is a simulation of a leslie 122, two leslie 145 and a Yamaha RA 200 in the hx one. you find some soundsamples in youtube from all the effects (e.g. eitschpy42). you also find the hx one manual on the linev6 website. I think for the price you get a lot of good effects. there is also a sim of the chandler tubedriver, Phase 90, big muffs, etc. you do nothing wrong with the hx one in my opinion😊
Can the Precision 1 cover any ground that my Ram Head Big Muff, Green Russian Big Muff, Past X Revolution and Tdy can't? Trying to decide if it worthwhile to get one.
Sounds like you have most of your ‘Big Muff’ style pedals covered there. So you might not find as much use for the Precision1. Even though it’s a Cornish modified Big Muff, with his buffer mods etc, it might be overkill for you. Thanks for your interest though!
you see, leslie and yamaha are different things. they are both rotary cabinets, but yamaha sounds a bit more like chorus-y but leslie is a bit more flanger-y if that makes sense. still, any rotary is better than not rotary at all.
What is your best alternative for rotary sounds instead of the rt-20? It is very hard to aquire since it’s of the market. I bought the fender “the pinwheel” wich is also a rotary simulator but it doesn’t have a blend knob and that ruins it. After this video i am motivated to get a nice rotary simulator for myself!!
The NEW Keeley Rotary has all this and more. it sounds more authentic to the real Leslie as it has dirt you can add from the sound of the Leslie's amp.
You can find them, just going to pay close to $500 for one. I honestly would look into other rotary pedals there are plenty out there they do just as good as this one. Either way a good rotary pedal is going to be expensive. I highly recommend the Micro Vent 122, to me it is way better than this boss.
strymon lex is a leslie simulator and a very very good one at that. they are different type of pedals to be honest and strymon lex doesn't have mix knob. still, lex is hard to beat.
Not hard to find just you are going to pay a lot of money. There are other options out there that you can use other than the boss RT-20. I like the the micro vent 122 way better.
I had and sold my RT-20. Sounded like a chorus. I also prefer my neo micro vent which is way more capable, and flexible, especially in a two amp set up, with the vent only effecting one amp. Which is how DG uses his Yammy. Separate. It can be subtle like Yamaha rotating speaker or really like a full on swirling Leslie. I can’t play like Musty though 😂
@ Please do. I value your opinion and I am astounded by the tones you get, your playing and how you master DG solos so accurately and so quickly. Like you said in your review of the l&s gig, you even caught HIS eye. 🤩👍🏼👀
Don't know about this one, but tried the Dawner Prince Pulse, and hated it. Just destroyed the overall tone and just didn't sound better than a chorus with a blend knob. I just bought the Strymon Zelhziah, I'm pretty sure I will be able to do somekind of swirly Gilmour stuff with it 😉
that's actually a very fancy phaser. it's gonna give you great shine on, have a cigar, some breathe and any colour you like too and brain damage and eclipse too probably, but it's not gonna sound like PULSE or pigs or dogs or anything. I love strymon pedals though. very high quality.
Well I just tried it, it's pretty awesome and VERY versatile. The left side gets classic phaser stuff, plus an enveloppe filter. The blend knob is a clear game changer. The right goes from chorus to flanger. It sounds very good for the Wall flanger type stuff. Gets into Police and Cure territory. Since you can mix the two sides in parallel, series, or separatly (on left and right outputs), it's an awesome pedal really. No, it doesn't do that doppler thing. It can get close though. Recommend for a very high quality modulation pedal. I don't know why Strymon doesn't advertise it more as a multi modulation pedal, because it's what it is. The phaser is just one part of it. The right side mix effect knob goes from chorus to flanger with everything in between. Marvelous!
Are there any cheaper alternatives to the Boss RT-20? It's very hard to find one here in Romania and other alternatives like the Strymon Lex are pricy. Just wondering
Thanks for the great video you get very close without selling your soul to PETE CORNISH AND NEAVE . HAVE A WONDERFUL 2025 AND PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.

Oh yessssss, I was waiting for this episode so heavily!
Was amazing on David's tour ! i have the Dynacord CLS222 which is the greatest emulation in my opinion, David used it in Pulse in 1994
That’s the rack one right? That sounds amazing on keyboard as I’ve heard but I don’t know how it sounds on guitar. Does it have a blend knob? How do you use it?
Another quality video! This is great, it really is the secret sauce behind Gilmours tones
Epic tones Musty! Impressive
Thanks Terry!
Perfect! And your playing sounds as if Gilmour himself plays in your videos;)
Thank you! I appreciate that❤️

@@mustyguitar thank you for all the awesome work! If anyone is on the fence about becoming a Patreon member, I can vouch it’s well worth it!
heard the big Yamaha once on front of me.....amazing, because of the air thats moved and its 3D effect.
thx for your great videos!
that must've been something!
The whole video was great, but that mother solo at the 8:05 was another level.

the fact that it was discontinuated by boss sucks. really wanted it too. i wonder if the md200/md500 sounds similar to it

@@kyledonworth3845 wow what an omission from Boss😮
I have one and it's really cool with a Strat (preferably black :-) )
cool, but the line 6 HX One does the job also relatively well I think. There are three different rotary sounds in the hx one😊
I've heard about it but I have no experience with any Line 6 product or sim. what do you think about it? how are you enjoying it? do you have sound clips I can listen to? is there blend knobs or split signals?

Amplitube 5 is an affordable option if you aren't gigging. It has Leslie rotating speakers.

Hello which model of guitar and pick ups do you use on this video?
Thanks
Hi mustafa, great vid as always,do you use both sides of the pedal thought you only used left side
I almost always use the left side, for any colour you like I use the right side as well.
I have the Formula B Vintage Vibe MK2 does it do the rotary effect or i still need a rt20?
I don't know the one you're talking about but vibe and rotary are very different things my man
No that's a univibe.

dawner prince pulse is the best alternative to my ears. or, if you're using a daw, SKnote RA200 is absoultely amazing.
Are you going to do a review of the new Keeley rotary pedal?
I second that.
I would if Keeley sends me one :P
The NEW Keeley Rotary has all this and more. it sounds more authentic to the real Leslie as it has dirt you can add from the sound of the Leslie's amp.
sounds like a great one unit.
Rt20 is cool but wait till you hear the real thing bouncing the sound around the room. Great tone as ever. I find the hi power to lean more into fix.
can't even imagine the real thing
