3D Print Not Sticking? 9 Ways to Get Perfect Bed Adhesion

  • The first layer is the most important in 3D printing. If it does not adhere properly, the print will not succeed and the time and filament spent will be wasted. However, there are many ways to increase print bed adhesion.

    Definitely giving these a try! Had major peeling on left side coincidentally somewhat close to a window and it's 20 degrees outside..tried raising bed from 50c to 70c and the print turned out significantly better, but still warped. Going to make an enclosure to block the window and also slow the initial layer speed down. Thankyou for the great information.

    I'm so glad I found this video. I've been having problems with my new Ender 3 V2 (my first printer), and I wanted to solve the adhesion problem without using glue or hairspray. I don't know why I have a bug up my ass to avoid these things, but I do. But your talking through all the variables that can be modified helped my understand Cura better, and I'm happy to report good bed adhesion for a couple of prints now without needing the hairspray. I loved that you showed video samples of the differences and explained how each change improved adhesion. THANKS!

    Thanks! I was having issues with getting the first layer to stick. Longer strokes of fillament in a continuous motion worked fine, but shorter and qicker motions... oh boy... the 5mm/s on the first layers did the tirck. Cura was configured to do this on the first 2 layers. Not sure if this is an old setting from when I found this profile as a starting point a few years ago but I thought that it would help before it'd become an issue. Start of the print looks mighty clean so I have high hopes it 'll work this time.

    I reduced the print speed to 5 mm per second as suggested along with wider and taller initial layer lines and it works great (I previously tried mouse ears prior to watching this video and it didn't work, the whole ear will get pulled off because of the speed). I no longer have to print a raft, which will save me on filament (print time maybe slightly faster than with a raft but not by much). Still need to figure out curling issue, but thank you for solving this issue that have been bothering me for a while.

    • @arcanealchemist3190
      @arcanealchemist3190 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      what helped me with curling was creating a simple enclosure out of foam core boards to surround my printer. this created a thermal buffer to protect my print from sudden changes in temperature, for example from the air conditioner turning on and off nearby. that, and slightly increasing bed temperature. the main cause of curling is the print cooling unevenly, so it helps to prevent that however you can!

    spoiler: Dehydrate your filament.
    I had an Ultrabase that had lost all adhesion after 3 years of frequent use.
    Sandpaper, solvents, first layer slow...nothing worked and was resigned to printing on blue-tape!
    Then used a food-dehydrator on all my filament..6 hours at 55c for PETG, 10 hours at 45c for PLA.
    Now I'm back to the other adhesion problem...getting the model off the glass without breaking!
    Most the filament I got came with the printer, so it's 'aged'.
    There was a roll of glow-in-the-dark PLA that crumbled into bits when I dried it! [Hatchbox]
    I'm getting all new filament soon...
