I don't know how many times I've replayed this video. Superb songwriting ability on your part. These riffs are so beautiful, thanks for releasing this; you've helped me more than you can know
FINALLY a guitarist on youtube who actually knows what emo music is, rather than people just playing shitty Black Veil Brides-esque riffs and calling it emo
black veil brides is shitty becuse of andy ballsack lmao, jake is my inpiration reason why i picked up the guitar but the style aint my thing id rather kill "we stitch thease wounds" and "set the world on fire" and create something heavy
when I first watched this video I had no idea what emo was but now it's been 5 ish years and oh my god I love the riffs on this video, currently in a rut in writing emo/screamo riffs
When I clicked on this, I was thinking, "This probably isn't actually emo (twinkling)." Well, I was surprised and really appreciated this. I totally dig these riffs, dude. I hope you find some bandmates.
Wow you are the best guitarist i ever saw,im not joking! Can you please make tutorials for playing emo songs?i mean guitar rifs etc... And also you deserve much more subs...!!
Haha thanks man. I'm not that great but I appreciate the support. I might be willing to do a tutorial but I rarely ever get around to putting out videos anymore.
I am genuinely surprised how legitimately emo this riff is. Clearly inspired by SDRE or Indian Summer or Emipre! Empire!, not some BVB or Asking Alexandra riff.
spudbrain nah fr? Thats crazy bro I would’ve never known and I bet jake didnt know either wow how insightful im boggled do you think weezer is emo too 😐
Check out American Football, TTNG, Six Gallery and maybe some Minus the Bear. Listen to their song 'Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse'. There's tonnes of bands who have this kind of vibe, just trawl through TH-cam and you'll find the good stuff.
I also play guitar and scream and I've been wanting to form a Midwest Emo band for a year now but nobody I know is down because they don't understand the music
+cammykinzofdeath I just bought an interface recently so hopefully I'll be able to get some demos out there soon. I just started a project with one of my friends too so hopefully well get some material out there in the near future
If I can help a bit with writing Orchid riffs, Will Killingsworth's guitar playing (especially on Chaos is Me) is very heavily focused on tremolo picking. It's very similar to black metal in some ways, so looking at how black metal riffs are written might be useful. Also, Orchid used D# standard tuning a lot. So that, trem picking, octave chords, high on the neck playing (notes lower than around the seventh fret don't appear much), and adding open strings to chords (for example, octave chords on the G# and F# string while hitting the open D# string) should result in a decent Orchid approximation.
Is this done in standard tuning? I noticed you're making use of minor and dominate7 chord shapes. If it is standard. I usually use FACGCE for skramz.. your tapping Is on point.
Hey bruh, I need some help, i play in a math rock band but i dont know anything about pedals, i usually play my fender stratocaster direct to the amp, but sometimes my tapping doesn't sound in the ideal volume, and the other members can't heard it, do you know any solution? Please i will appreciate it.
+MassiveKiller2 Buy a compressor pedal. It makes all of your notes equal volume. I cant give you a good rec for what pedal to buy because I don't really know myself but thats what you're looking for.
these arent emo riffs theyre math rock/metal riffs. bands like brand new and sunny day real estate never really got this complex with there writing(correct me if im wrong).
Paul Smith well this isn't really math because everything is in 4/4 but if you want some mathy emo bands check out tommy boys, two knights, gulfer, they're/their/there, algernon cadwallader etc. Also American Football which is like the biggest emo band ever is pretty mathy sometimes
Ben Nagy shit, well if you can record we can send low quality audio files via email and compile them over a drum kit thing and call it a side project hahah
Listen to Tiny Moving Parts, they are known as a modern "screamo" revival band and they use tappy jazzy riffs, its the heart and feel, not the sound that makes screamo. Technically Circle Takes the Square is a hardcore band, but 99% of people call them screamo because they hold the emotion. Adonis Battlefield should be a metal band but we all call them screamo.
sorry to burst your bubble man but this is defiantly not screamo or emo XD this is very progressive, kinda sounds like math rock too. go check out a band called foals
Most of this is in 4/4 so I don't see how it could be math rock or prog at all. I think if you heard the riffs in context of a real song you might think differently. I'll check out the band though!
Not going to lie when I clicked on this video I saw an EMG loaded guitar and was waiting for metal core BS....thank you for actually killing it
Some metalcore is cool but I agree I need a tele
I don't know how many times I've replayed this video. Superb songwriting ability on your part. These riffs are so beautiful, thanks for releasing this; you've helped me more than you can know
that I>IV/I>V is really the only thing any emo band ever needs.
dude a really hope you found a midwest emo band who play with!
FINALLY a guitarist on youtube who actually knows what emo music is, rather than people just playing shitty Black Veil Brides-esque riffs and calling it emo
agreed
Ben Werli but jake is good guitarist tho :/
black veil brides is shitty becuse of andy ballsack lmao, jake is my inpiration reason why i picked up the guitar but the style aint my thing id rather kill "we stitch thease wounds" and "set the world on fire" and create something heavy
This is not screamo or emo either
@@lucascrass4531 ok buddy
Best Emo Music Ever
I like the mathy emo riffs, keep them coming.
Reminded me a lot of I Wrote Haikus About Death In Your Yearbook.

I am genuinely surprised how legitimately emo this riff is. Clearly inspired by SDRE or Indian Summer or Emipre! Empire!, not some BVB or Asking Alexandra riff.
THose last two bands are not emo

Nice playing man! That was really good! Hey maybe when I get out of high school we could create a band?
dude, that was beautiful. where are you in the midwest?

American Football
Rock on dude

pantscereal I just mess around with chord shapes that I know and see what works
man id love to jam with you. been getting back into emo lately and it seems like nobody around knows or likes emo haha
That verb👀
nice bruhh
math rock emo
Did you mess up at 1:30 or was that intentional? Either way it makes the riff sound like 10x cooler
I want to sing to this so bad bruh I wish I could start a band with you
... jus realized this was posted 7 years ago hehe
what pedals do you use? reverb, delay?
❤
really loving this sound any band recommendations?
Check out American Football, TTNG, Six Gallery and maybe some Minus the Bear. Listen to their song 'Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse'. There's tonnes of bands who have this kind of vibe, just trawl through TH-cam and you'll find the good stuff.
Where do you live? I could sing. I love this type of emo
cool...
I also play guitar and scream and I've been wanting to form a Midwest Emo band for a year now but nobody I know is down because they don't understand the music
Mannn, this is exactly the kind of shit I wanna play. Is there like a technique for any of this? Like certain chord shapes or scales
I just started using chord shapes I liked and put melodies over it with my other hand.
Awesome tunes dude! What tuning are you in?
Quantutron drop d
Holy shit, I really wanna learn this but like, no tabs ;-;
oooooooo thats some quality shitt duddeee. someone start a band with you yet so i can hear these in songs???
+cammykinzofdeath I just bought an interface recently so hopefully I'll be able to get some demos out there soon. I just started a project with one of my friends too so hopefully well get some material out there in the near future
aha!!!! thats what i like to hear!!!
Can you show how to make like early screamo riffs like Orchid and some 2000 screamo like Thursday and Taking back sunday
If I can help a bit with writing Orchid riffs, Will Killingsworth's guitar playing (especially on Chaos is Me) is very heavily focused on tremolo picking. Did you ever start a band lol

Drop D or C I believe
Is this done in standard tuning? I noticed you're making use of minor and dominate7 chord shapes. If it is standard. I usually use FACGCE for skramz.. your tapping Is on point.
It's just a drop tuning. I haven't been able to really figure out how to write in FACGCE yet. Thank dude!
Uhm it was a digitech multi-effects. I think it was the RP5000. I wasnt playing this on my gear it was my friends
what pedal do you use, and how configure the amplifier ? please
This is a bugera 333 win a digitechrp5000 I can't really tell you how I set it up because this is like3 years old now
How did u learn to tap I try but it doesn't sound clean at all.😭 any tips?
Just go as slow as possible and be as clean as you can and work your way up in speed. Find some songs that have tapping it in so you can practice
what tuning is this in?
can i use this to make a song of mine? no comercial proposes off cours

Ben Nagy this is about as screamo as American Football
Listen to Tiny Moving Parts, they are known as a modern "screamo" revival band and they use tappy jazzy riffs, its the heart and feel, not the sound that makes screamo. Technically Circle Takes the Square is a hardcore band, but 99% of people call them screamo because they hold the emotion. Adonis Battlefield should be a metal band but we all call them screamo.
