- i struggle to explain common methods used in screamo (skramz) guitar playing/writing for about ten minutes. probably most informative if you have already been playing guitar for a little bit.
ig: @jamecono
I feel like clean cut dude with a surf guitar and an oxford shirt buttoned all the way up makes the best hardcore. Throw some all black New Balances in and he's unstoppable.
Danelectros 6 strings, especially in a seafoam blue/green, are the most hardcore guitars on the face of the planet
If the guitarist of the band looks like this, you're dying in that pit.
Been married since he was 18 and has a kid named Mint.

Omg this is LITERALLY first how to screamo on guitar tutorial on TH-cam ever!!! Wooooow
It’s true! It is! I’m so excited, because no one ever talks about how to play hardcore or really anything other than EDM and metal
As a metalhead, I’m at least glad that there’s a broad variety for thay
@@mysticmagicsmurfdarklord6844 Yes! This is true gold and honey for my ears
ive been trying to write some screamo songs since months, just now im getting near to truly understanding it. this video was really helpful, thank you man
You should try emulating bands in the subgenre you're looking for. Learn to play their songs first, then take what you learn from that into writing your own stuff. Eventually you can find your own voice and style that is uniquely yours, but still pays homage to the music that inspired you.
Pro Tip: 'Screamo' isn't a real subgenre. You're probably looking for hardcore, post hardcore, or metalcore. Calling it screamo music is often seen as cringey and disrespectful.
@@newa0nni’ve been doing this but i lack chords I DONT KNOW WHAT CHORDS IM MISSING i have tons of songs and melodies that want to come out but i just can’t make them sound the way they do idk if it’s my tuning or i simply lack chord knowledge
@@newa0nn calling it screamo isnt really "cringery or disrespectful" tho. A lot of bands have adopted the "Skramz" titling to loosely identify the sound that they play and Skramz in itself is a pretty known sub-genre of punk at this point. I mean it's having one of it's biggest revival now with a lot of new bands and big bands that aren't strictly traditional Skramz, but Skramz-influenced sound. Like a good example would be Portrayal Of Guilt's earlier work, with them labelling themselves as Blackened-Skramz, although they have shifted heavily on the Black Metal side lately.
So essentially screamo/skramz is an actually sub-genre used to define sounds that are popularized by bands like pageninetynine, rites of springs, jeromes dream, etc
0:56 KITTY!!
this was truly helpful. First time I feel like I've had a video completely catoured to me and what I needed.
I've been dying for a video like this
this is perfect for getting me back into learning guitar. thanks bro
hey man this video was really cool. would you be willing to make more videos/share what kind of chords you play in this tuning? they sounded great and would love to get a closer look at them if you're willing. either way very informative and cool. dont see alot of vids on this kind of subgenre.
yesss, please chords
He made a video for that!!!!!
@@Ivexxyhe made a video for that!!!! :)
Fun and helpful video, great job explaining as well. Thanks for uplpading!
keep uploading Dylan this is grate
Awesome video, very under rated genre. Skramz is one of my favorite hardcore genres.
It really is underrated. I started learning some old Thursday recently and it’s actually pretty hard! And I’ve been playing for like 20 years
love the sound of this tuning gna have to try writing some stuff in it
I like that Dano. Ecspecially with the natural headstock.
I got a 59 shortscale bass very similar look. Undertated for metal and alternative genres.
Cool video man 👍👍
Ay bro this video helps a lot man keep it up bro you sound good
can u kickflip tho
Into the sunset

nice overview of important concepts
Saw the Dan Electro and had to comment. One of my favorites on the market.
Thanks for sharing, great video!
thanks. need more of this
very good and informative
Really helpful, thanks !
good video, didn't mention playing to a met. For the more hardcore influenced skramz that tends to be more percussive it is way easier to play to a met when song writing.
yeah I totally agree! honestly didn't really occur to me because I practice p much everything to a metronome, hardcore or not, these days.
This is so good pls more
love this dude
Thank uuuuuu Dylan!!
If you could do more videos breaking down more of the specifics of what your doing in these rifts, that would be killer.
Im a music theory guy and theres all kinds of stuff id like to pick what sorts of harmony techniques are implimented in screamo. Theres alot more interesting stuff going on in the genre than most people seem to realize.
Also this tuning seems really interesting. CGCGCEb right?
I saw the danelectro and knew we were in for it
make more videos!!!! this is great
Hell yeah! subscribed.🤞🏾
I will use "bonehead" as often as possible now
his guitar design reminds me of cat in the hat (mike myers) type cat n the hat
Yes dude, please share more of your knowledge. I've recently gotten into skramz (was just at a Frail Body gig tonight with some great supports) and would love to play some different riffs from what I usually do
yoo frail body is so good, wasn’t expecting a rockford monday
i missed frail body n algae bloom i was so bummed. do u know any other current screamo in the uk??
@avarel666 As Living Arrows are sick, they were local support for when I saw FB in Brisol. Bit more emo but they got some skramz. Chalk Hands were on the UK run obvs. Earth Moves are woefully underrated, such a good band, a bit more pensive and post-metal vibes as well
@@avarel666 they're not super active right nowbut cassus is fantastic, and then Cady are also uk based and absolutely rule.
Pretty interesting hardcore/punk subgenre.
the old decks in the background rly let me know you're with the shits lmao
Hell yeah dude
Nice a fellow danelectro user
This is a TH-cam grail, just dropped a fat knowledge bomb!!!
What was the notes for that tuning ? very curious sounds really cool.
It's a drop tuning, for this video I had it at CGCGCD#
oh hell yeAH could you make one for bass too or?¿?
Dylan u need to upload more videos
okay i did click bc u are very handsome. stayed for epic guitar.
love u mwah
bulletsbetweentongues is starting an entirely new movement for hardcore music.
Hence this video
Yeah I don't think they are the only band doing it, but I do like their sound, the melding of a lot of subgenres that were considered fairly disparate maybe 10-15 years ago is pretty cool. There's always been metalcore/screamo crossover acts (the critic comes to mind), but it's def getting bigger these days.
so good thank you! any recommendations for shoegazey screamo/skrams bands to check out?
Summer in my veins

how are you getting that guitar tone?
pin the treble on the guitar, bridge pickup, roll back the high end at the amp. it’s a garageband amp sim lol

I've played in a lot of bands, and still do! Not trying to promote my music here though, just trying to pass on some tips bc I've noticed a lot of people ask about how to play stuff like this online.
but what bands did you play in
So, what bands have you played in?
@@jamecono you've summoned the evil screamo archivists
@@jamecono yeah but what bands did you play in
good job, i fell asleep to this video TWICE
That's pretty boneheaded
screamo is a misnomer created by clueless boomers. screamo =/= skramz
skramz was originally called screamo until everyone started to call every song with screaming in it screamo
@@jjazy3439 it was still a misnomer back then lol
@psychwardsandcymbals how can it be a misnomer if that was the original word for the genre, just cause people mistakenly call mcr screamo doesn't make the actual meaning wrong
@@jjazy3439 i dare you to post proof. i'm waiting. you weren't even alive at the time lol
the word screamo was definitely used around 2000, but like emo, no band wanted to be called that. skramz is something i heard for the first time way after 2010. i only heard skramz used by kids that weren't even born when most those bands were around. most bands would insist on just being hardcore bands. labels would be used to describe the sound. you had gravity, ebullition, gold standard labs, dim mak and such, which would tell you more about the style of hardcore they played. neither screamo nor skramz were really endemic genre descriptions.
Midwest emo enjoyer tries to explain metal
fun fact: 'screamo' is a word that scared moms made up to describe music they didn't understand that their kids were listening to and isn't _actually_ a genre of music
while the term screamo was often misapplied to post-hardcore and metalcore bands in the 2000s it is its own genre (also commonly also referred to as skramz) that combines emo with more dissonant forms of hardcore such as grindcore and powerviolence.
Screamo is definitely a real thing baby
@@yrgettingnicereveryday "often misapplied" is very generous. Moms learned the word emo and attributed that word with: moody, wears black clothes and eyeliner, doesn't talk much, stays in their room listening to sad/angry music, writes in their journal a lot"
Then came the advent of "how can you listen to that noise, they aren't even singing" once they heard screaming in the music. Screaming was very much considered an invalid vocal technique. To describe the screaming music their emo children were listening to, they invented the catch-all term 'screamo'
People who use it today either don't understand musical genres in rock/metal or are trying to retcon the word in despite its origin
@@chrispysaid the term screamo was made way before scared moms started using it to describe everything with screaming in it, buddy. it is an actual genre now called skramz because the normies (i hate that fucking term but whatever) took it pver and just started applying it to every song with screaming
This dude absolutely played VFW shows in their prime
