      In the least can you let us know about the Mark. How many miles from the mouth of the river are you. Do you find estuary fishing most productive at certain times of year or states of tide. I fish the Tyne a bit here and there and have never been able to put my finger on best strategies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers John

    Fishing the old car tomorrow, will start fishing at least once a week again as a mental health medicine, works like a charm, and I love the sound of the waves and the smell of pier.
    Been studying so much, came to the conclusion that I'll only buy the rod and line and the rest I'll make handmade, and I'm so excited for it

      I make most of my rigs too. It might be worth buying 1 of each rigs and then you have a template. Send me a PM to the Fishlocker Fb if you want a chat about rods/reels etc.

I could 'watch your videos all day or all night, & still find them intensely interesting & very relaxing. I'd been toying with some long forceps to turn the line through the gills and remove deep hooks the same way you do, but after seen you using the "hook tool" I'm going to definitely adopt the idea (hope you don't mind John :) ). It seems to be a much more friendly way to unhook deep set hooks and less stressful for the fish. Thanks for another great video and some great tips John.

    Thank you once again for your time and effort in delivering another great video from the shore , can relate to the mud thing mate, was at a mark on Bristol Channel last week, up to my shins in river silt , but the cod were biting so take the ruff with the smooth I guess , take care 👍🏼👍🏼

    I learn something from every video you put out.
    Last video I saw those "foam reels" with your tackle wound around it when you opend the tacklebox. Thought that was a gorgeous idea!
    This video I couldn't help but notice how much you pay attention to your setup (always checking back at the rods.) You could see it was the fish that was important and the camera is just also there.
    I also love how much patience you have with the bites. I, being an amateur, tries to set the hook every time the rod slightly vibrates. I guess I will have to change that.
    Love your channel. Happy new year and may your channel *way more* than just double this year.
    God bless.

      That is one of the hardest things to develop in fishing. Is how to sit on your hands when you get an “interest” bite. Learning what different bites indicate. Some are just a fish finding and exploring the bait. Others are “FISH ON”!!! That’s a difficult thing to learn. 😊👍🏻

    Good technique there for unhooking flounder, they always seem to hook deep. A mate once told me bend the hook over left or right of the shank slightly to stop deep hooking, it seemed to work well. That mud though, gets everywhere.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Offsetting your hooks doesn’t avoid deep hooking but it does help increase hookups of shy biting fish.

I love these estuary videos and hope in the near future to be copying your techniques for myself. Great upload, glad you went through the unhooking of flounder with a much clearer demonstration. Nicely filmed thanks for posting.

      I am not one to try and shame anyone, but I do hope that by showing people that there are better ways to do things, unhooking and handling etc. people will be encouraged to do things differently. Our videos the fishing is primary and the video is secondary. For some people being TH-cam famous is more important. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Great unhooking technique, when done carefully it's a great way of unhooking flatties. I used to see scores of palm sized flat fish dead under Bournemouth pier when spearfishing as many anglers just wiggle the hook out with a high risk of puncturing the heart in flat fish. Circle hooks can reduce the risk of a deep hook, but I find your bite to hook up ratio drops.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spot on Danny. Circle hooks for flatfish just are not as effective. And I have seen so so many people deep hook flatfish and either panic and cut it off or kill the fish in an attempt to disgorge it. Hopefully this will help.

    Great vid again folks. Very interesting to see how those estuary Bass bite, up here in the North East I would put money on it being a Whiting. Bass up my way hit very fast and hard and you often have to stand and hold the rod to have a chance of hooking into one. I know its difficult filming on your own but it would be good if you could find a angle that let us watch the rod tips as you are talking, your head is always in the way...LOL. Thanks again for the video, Cheers.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s all just about which way is best for the light and audio due to the wind really. Easiest for me would be the rods behind the camera so I could look over the camera at the rods.
