      Any chance of doing a video on bait extracts oils /additives like peeler crab, black lug etc . Test to see If they actually improve catch rate or just a waste money .

    Beautiful plaice. Used to drive across to Edinburgh area, when I lived in Glasgow, to fish Musselburgh Flats for plaice. Amazing! They were filling in an area for landfill and they were catching record after record plaice. Not I, but memorable times. All gone now, sadly. Enjoyed that session.

    Thank you for another stunning video! Yet again, memories have been stirred. Dad had a friend at work who had a small boat in Exmouth (we lived in east Devon). He often gave Dad mackerel that was excess to his need. One day he brought an old fertiliser sack to work, containing 3 large dog fish. He thought they'd make a good meal for my family (there were 7 of us including Mum and Dad.) He was right - but first came the task of skinning the fish - as you'll know, the skin is like sandpaper. Pliers, vice grips, even nailing them to a door lintel to gain a decent grip - it took hours to prepare them for cooking. It was so amusing that my eldest brother drew a cartoon of the activity and Mum wrote a poem, both of which were published in the Farmers Weekly a short time later! I know we all enjoyed the end result and Dad found a faster and easier way to skin them, so whenever his friend caught them, we received the means of making a heap of fish and chips for dinner! Gosh, that was a long time ago now! Happy memories, though! I wouldn't alter any aspect of my childhood and appreciate your bringing memories back for me to enjoy! Thanks, John and family! xx

    What a cracking days fishing. 😊👍I think I counted 8 species including the 'Baby Kraken🐙' and if you caught the Launce on the way out, that makes 9.😊 Those Plaice were fine looking fish and one of the tastiest too.
    I just like them pan fried with chunky chips and minted peas.
    My first ever sea fish age 6/7 was a 12oz Plaice caught on one of those old wooden hand lines with the orange nylon line, a watch lead and about 2 ft of mono, rag worm on a size 6ish hook. It's amazing how much you remember about your first fish. That old hand line hung in my Dad's shed for years lol.
    I caught it in the Looe River and my Nan cooked it for me. It tasted amazing and I'd caught it. 😁. Ps those Blonde Ray's really made the trip perfect.

    Here in North Carolina we have a fish called the Sommer Flounder that looks alot like the fish you caught. They don't have the orange spots. They like to ambush bait fish in the shallows. They cover themselves with sand for camoflage. We use lights and gig poles to catch them. We pole our boats in the shallows looking for their glowing eyes.

      Can't wait for the cook up. My grandma used to put it in a crockery fish dish with some butter, lemon parsley. Then she would lay a piece of kitchen roll over the fish,pour a splosh of milk and pop in the microwave for a few mins. It was just perfect. Going to my local fish mongers tomorrow hoping he has some tasty eats. Have a lovely eating.

    When I was working at a factory in London, I got the phone number of a fishmonger at Billingsgate Fish Market and told my colleague, a chap from Uganda who loved having a laugh, that a man called Arthur Gurnard phoned whilst he was away from his post and could he ring him back urgently.
    He phoned the number and asked for Arthur Gurnard ('alf a Gurnard)
    The fishmonger replied, "That's a fish" and after a while, put the phone down.
    My colleague was by now (still not realising it was a joke) adamant he wanted to speak to Arthur Gurnard and phoned him back again. It was only after the fishmonger hung up a second time that I told him it was a windup! 😂

    Oh how I love fried plaice! Some people say they are smelly and they sure do have a specific smell but I think it's not that bad actually. When my mum was young she was a member of a diving club called Atlantis. About 30 years ago she went diving in the sea of Japan with her crew. They were also fishing and she would always tell me how enormously much plaice they had caught. That fish was an everyday meal for them. Also, that's where she met my father, he was the instructor guy:) This video brought back some of my memories and those are the good ones, indeed. Cheers!

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      - Its funny that, I was talking to someone the other day about the very distinctive smell of plaice. Interesting that they get plaice out in Japan. I didn't know that. I thought it was a European fish.

    • @four4444Function

      @@TheFishLocker, well, apparently plaice inhabits the sea of Japan. Also, just want to note that, in fact, it was Russia, not too far from Vladivostok. Moreover, they picked a really nice spot, not many people around. She told me it was infested with this fish. They would not use a fishing rod, just a line, a hook and mussels as a bait. The reaction would be almost immediate.
      Now that I think of it, they stayed there for a month... might have eaten all of it then haha

    Hello Pal , well What a diversity of fish species you have down there , really is quite impressive & the colors of those plaice really are astonishing .Had Some great plaice fishing off Ryde sands off the Isle of Wight using home made anchor shaped booms covered in beads and small spoons attached to the main line from the front with a hook at each extremity sometimes in just 6/7 ft of water . As the sands were snag free We’d cast a short distance and drift and let the tide do the rest with simple ragworm on a 1 or 1/0 cox & rawle .we’d fish a couple of rods , one near and one about 30yrds You’d sometimes hook one and another would occasionally come from nowhere attracted by the commotion would hit the other bait so doubles were commonplaice☺️in the clear water.
    They weren’t massive but the numbers were there , the bigger fish coming from about 150yrds off what was shanklin pier over some mussel beds where regular 3-5lb fish put in an appearance .unfortunately , inshore trawlers seem to be getting closer and closer to the beaches which judging by you’re success can’t be the case down you’re neck of the woods. I suppose the marine topographie doesn’t let the trawler boys get a clear run at it 🤷‍♂️Another great video anyway pal, I’ll look forward to the next one 🙋‍♂️

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - I have used those wishbone rigs before. Very effective. Here it is the best it has ever been for Plaice fishing. I personally think it is due to the lack of foreign trawlers off the Cornish coast due to lockdown. Long may it continue. 😊

    • @mattmorris9709
      @mattmorris9709 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Fish Locker Agreed pal. The absence of those trawlers has no doubt affected a lot of things particularly the fish stocks but also the baitfish movements or simply by the effect of the peace and quiet the grounds have had for the last couple of months . I don’t know if you have oysters or the scallop boys out there but in my opinion they’re the worst . Not for what they catch but the damage they do to the habitat . Scraping around & raking the bottom but pair trawlers probably take the biggest volume . I feel that fish, regardless of being fished for & caught will be replaced & always move into a rich vacant habitat . The sun can shine for everyone with a little consideration .
