Not fished that part of the country for a long time. Friend and I used to boat fish out of Watchet using uptide rods. Bites like the ones you describe as a real wallop were at times common and usually resulted in tope. Rod would whack over and then stop moving. Wind in to check the bait and hey presto little tope about 10 to 12 inches long. Lovely perfectly formed tope. Keep up the good work

Hi John. As you know I'm an advocate of peeler crab as a number one bait. For your followers who are not familiar with foraging for the rascals,. Gently turn over the rocks in the rock pool, keeping the water clear, look for the crabs that have a pink tinge on their leg joints. Pick the fellow up, take hold of any leg, give it twist, and if is about to shed/peel, the shell will come away in your fingers.
Everytime I take the car ferry across the Clyde from McInroys point to Hunters quay I always stand up top looking down at the water and wonder what is swimming around underneath me. People who don't like fishing just think it's boring standing watching the tip of your rod in the pouring rain and as we say in bonnie jockland, "it's blawin a hoolie" don't understand the thrill of what could be. You never know what you're going to catch as anything could take your bait, big or small. Tight lines John 👍

Hi. If your weight has an impact clip on, why did you add another one in front of it? Also, do you connect the second hook to the circle hook or is this a second line down from the rig? Thanks 🙏
I'll be there for several days in two weeks time (with my long nosed dog fish skinning pliers). I always worry about dropping something important like the front drag knob from a fixed spool reel amongst those big rocks at WM, because it would probably disappear down amongst them forever.
I think collecting and re-using lost gear is a great idea; less waste, and cleaning up all at once. So long as it's still useable, then if it's caught in the weed, reefs or rocks and abandoned? Might be a bit childish, but I think that _Finders, keepers!_ applies~😆 So many teeny baby dogfish today; you set up what they thought was a snack shop right outside their school! 😂 At least you had a lot of fun~😊 That two-fer catch was impressive AF, though! I agree with this comment I'd love to see a collab with John and Wayne! One day on the shore and then another on the boat
I will third that comment 👌🏻
I would have packed in way earlier if I'd been 'hounded' that much.. But leaving your mark on the way home!? Shocking! 😆
Haha. That sticker has been there for nearly 3 years mate.
Yer John, those boulders you were fishing from are known locally as ' Somerset Sand '!
🤣🤣
I think collecting and re-using lost gear is a great idea; less waste, and cleaning up all at once. So long as it's still useable, then if it's caught in the weed, reefs or rocks and abandoned? Might be a bit childish, but I think that _Finders, keepers!_ applies~😆 So many teeny baby dogfish today; you set up what they thought was a snack shop right outside their school! 😂 At least you had a lot of fun~😊 That two-fer catch was impressive AF, though! Even if they were only doggies~🤣🤣🤣
Haha. I was hoping for something bigger. Sadly just 2 at a time. 🤣
Cheers John, wow so many doggies!! Can you use them for bait apart from crab/lobster pots?. Many thanks Graham
Skate will eat them, but not much else
Dogfish everywhere up here the solways full off them as you know john 😢 with your trip other week
You need some skate to hoover them up!!
Another quality video mate! Thanks 🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh mate, your face says it all! You are the best at catching dogfish! Shame it isn't what you are after. Great video as always though, very enjoyable to watch you no matter what you are catching. Best of luck next time.
You can only catch what’s in front of you. 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Hi John, you should have gone the extra few miles and come to South Wales, some tidy rays being caught, if you want any info in the future, pleas let me know . tks Allen
Please send me a message to the Fishlocker fb page mate. That way I can stay in touch 👍🏻
Ankle breakers those boulders John . But I think that there is no market in the fishing that we have so many dogfish , years ago you could buy it in the fishing and chip shops and the preparation of pulling the skin of the flesh
£7 a box they go for commercially. Pennies each.
I blank most sessions, I'd be singing home catching all those haha
Haha.
Sunday night again. You’re more patient than me. 40! Or so dogfish in inr day. Better luck next week! My local fish operative are catching lobster, Crab, turbot, brill and a variety of lovely fish. I’ve almost given up meat! They use doggies in their pots.
I use doggies in my pots too. 👍🏻🦞
At least you know that your rigs are working 😂
Very true
I've fished that Mark before and been on my bottom loads of times
Haha.
Very much the same just up the road at Blue Anchor…dogfish after dogfish for the 4 nights I spent there
Hard work isn’t it.
Hi John personally I like to eat dogfish, no flipping bones in them and there a tasty morsel with chips ttfn mate
Well I can direct you to a mark where there’s loads of them if you want? 🤣
nine and a half meter tides is wild. Here in south Florida a three foot tide is a king tide...
Some areas here are 10m
Can only catch what’s in front of you , shows that your just like us 😂
That’s absolutely true. You can only catch what’s there. 👍🏻👍🏻
