    The best explanation I’ve seen on any of these channels, and to be honest, I took the old one out months ago, and by the time I actually got the new one from Amazon after two attempts, I kind of forgotten how it goes together. Thanks for the refresher course and I’m missing somewhere, I placed the bolts to it And I don’t know where I placed them so I’m off to the store to get new bolts. Thank you very much.❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸

    thank you sir! manage to replace my alternator on my 2001 corolla because of you!! couple of things I want to note for anyone want to change their alternator. DEFINITELY get yourself a breaker bar the the tension bolt and the bolts connecting the alternator. the bolts can be very hard to get loose so breaker bar is a must. 15” or more should be good. last thing make sure you have wd40 handy. the bottom part of the alternator really stuck on there so I had to spray it with lubricant to get off but it took awhile. definitely more of a pain then the connector on top. other than that everything is pretty smooth. just follow the video! thanks again man!

      Hello Pencil! You will do just fine, just take your time and as you start taking things off make your self a blue print on your mind on how things are installed. If taking pictures works for you, do that or drownings might work too. This is why we share this videos, so people can learn how to do it and save money for other needs. You can do this and more. Take well care Pencil!

    Yeah, it seems easy and IS easy, but working on my friend's 98 Corolla the freaking 14mm bottom bolt was already stripped a little turning this into a NIGHTMARE. Should be easy peasy with a 3/8 breaker bar and 14mm socket, but NOPE! Freaking 5 minute job turned into a NIGHTMARE. Gonna spray that bolt with some pb blaster tomorrow morning and let it sit for the day then try again with my neighbor's long 1/2" drive ratchet and 14mm socket after work. If that doesn't work gotta find an impact wrench or possibly have to drill it out or jack it up and try to get it from the bottom. Fu**ing NIGHTMARE. Whomever did this alternator job previously is a punk. Put the death torque on this freaking bolt. Unnecessary, man.

    • @elchanojose
      @elchanojose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Ikaika! You got it, sometimes a 5 min job turns into a nightmare. When some one touch the car before and did not do the job right, now the problem is not just the component but the bolt itself. Like you said, add some lubricant and see if that makes a difference helping the bolt on coming out. Take well care Ikaika!

      @IkaikaKahoano ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elchanojose Thanks Jose. I looked at your video again. Looks like the threads for this bolt are on the opposite side of the bolt head on the inner bracket side so gotta see if I can get some pb blaster in through there where the actual threads are. I think the incredible hulk changed the alternator the last time.

      @@elchanojose I was finally able to crack that 14mm bolt! I used a long, solid (16.5") 1/2" drive with a 14mm socket. Took a hammer and hammered the socket so it sat as flush as possible against the bolt flange. Also hammered around the bottom bracket area where the bolt goes through to try and loosen up any corrosion on the threads. It's really hard to see down there so I had to keep checking to make sure the socket sat flush. Couldn't get any penetrating oil down there either so I just had to rely on leverage and a slow and steady force. I couldn't find a suitable breaker bar during the week so I just used the long, sturdy 1/2" drive as is. I held the backside of the ratchet as hard as I could to keep the socket as flush against the flange as possible as I SLOWLY applied force with the max lever arm on the ratchet until it finally cracked. Thank God it worked. Turns out the bolt threads were corroded pretty bad so the bolt was seized and stripped and required special attention, appropriate tools and patience. Took me all of 5 minutes to install the new alternator and fresh serpentine belt after I drove to Toyota to buy a new bottom bolt since the original one was completely stripped. Like I said this is a 5 minute job if everything comes off the way it should. Took me a whole week to figure out how to get that seized, stripped bolt off without completely stripping it so it would have to be drilled out if that would even be possible. Whatever I'd have to do it would be something extremely difficult since this bolt is in a very precarious spot for something like drilling. Just happy I got it out! Battery indicator light is now off and car is quiet with the new Continental belt and runs like a champ! My friend was very happy to have her car back!

    How do you know that the alternator needs to be replaced? Are there any warning and symptoms of a bad alternator?

    • @dalecheney8286
      @dalecheney8286 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your battery won’t hold a charge. The alternators job is to keep power going to your battery while you drive so if you are having to jump start your car a lot it’s likely an old battery or a bad alternator
