  • The VTA mod is a cheap and easy way to increase turbo noise in your EcoBoost. I just needed something to mess with on my truck so I decided why not try this. Even if I decide to undo it, the plug costs $24. Not bad got a quick, easy mod.

    I did this today, and added a cone filter similar to a cold air intake filter at the back of the blow off valve which made the noise a lot better sounding then just coming straight out. Sounds like a diesel truck almost. Amazing turbo sound. Mines a 2013 year Ecoboost. I also removed that tube completely and used a one and 1/8 chair leg boot to seal the end of the intake. Again add that filter trust me. Yours sounds like a poof 💨 mine did too before the filter. Now it’s a lot higher pressure sounding and more drawn out.

    Would you lose turbo spool noise since there is technically less air going into the truck since the air is not being recycled?

    • @TruckStuff1
      @TruckStuff1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah it's minimal. The air intake outflows the turbos significantly.

    • @lil2.74
      @lil2.74 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The revented air has zero effect being recycled, it is going into an area of vacuum and doesn't boost anything and a fraction of a second blast of air wouldn't matter going into a boosted area either. It's not a matter of being minimal. it's a no effect mod. Just allows you to hear it. The only reason Ford did the revent was to silence it. A high percentage of potential buyers wouldn't like it. To my knowledge, no manufacturer building turbocharged vehicles vent to the atmosphere.

      $2 if you use bottom of chair rubber or $25 if you use actual VTA part.

    Some misinformation here in the comments. Ford revented it to silence it, the vast majority of the public doesn't want that and no manufacturers vent to the atmosphere on turbocharged vehicles. It has nothing to do with performance. Also blow off air isnt wasted, it has to get rid of the pressure. If you go off throttle, subtract gas you have to subtract boost. Doesn't matter if you blow it off into the atmosphere or back into the air intake that operates solely on vacuum. And this does nothing to increase turbo sound, whistle or flutter etc. Turbo sound doesn't blow out of the intercooler. it's only a short blast of air being released, and that's the only change in sound. The actual blow off valve is closed 99.9 percent of the time. So you exposed the blow off valve that only opens for a fraction of a second, and you put a plug in it that seals the return tube so it doesn't suck in dirt. Where would an increase in the whistle come from? Cold air intake name is a scam, all "cold air intakes" draw air from the same location as the oem intake and the open top designs use the existing bottom and intake duct. And even the aftermarket closed units draw air from the same location. Its a same air intake...lol. It has been proven that open top intakes rob horsepower from Ecoboost. Up to negative 25hp. Lets spend 300-600 bucks to rob horsepower. Some of the closed style aftermarket intakes made gains up to 10hp.Buy the open style I guess if you wanna look cool with the hood up. Those can increase turbo whistle. Hmmm do I want to sound fast or be fast...lol? Substantially increased turbo sound only comes from a major exhaust change or completely exposing the intake side of the turbo. The later would not be a good idea at all. Yes the blow off valve vented to the atmosphere has a cool factor. I did mine years ago. And you will always be able to tell its working properly. I have a high flow catted downpipe. all of the resonated 2.5 inch midpipe replaced with straight through 3inch going into the stock muffler. And I have the S&B closed style intake. I have very little turbo sound increase and what I did gain is solely from a much higher flowing down pipe and mid pipe. I run the stock muffler because I dont want to be loud and the stock muffler is gigantic so it can be high flowing and still knock out volume. The aftermarket muffler designs with 4 inch out the back coupled with a downpipe and mid pipe upgrade really produce turbo whistle at low rpm but at wide open throttle just a loud exhaust note. By the way, a high flowing catted downpipe such as CVF or SPD does add horsepower especially combined with other mods and a tune. The stock cats are extremely restrictive and growing worse with mileage. And the mid pipe is a substantial choke point. The muffler is not. You'd be better off keeping the OEM intake and doing a downpipe for power AND turbo whistle. If you are going to add multiple parts, intercooler and downpipe should be first on the list.

    Ford put this hose on for a reason. Your truck will have issues down the road and your mpg will decrease. Leave stuff alone and you'll be fine. Want noise? Buy a muffler,air intake,aftermarket bov.
