    Is it also possible to remove and change the intercooler on a gen2 raptor this way? I mean while the car is lifted up, changing the intercooler seems way easier and less painful than taking the whole grill out. After dealing with the fan harness ofc

    Turbosmart Regarding building boost while in the parked mode, I installed mine on a 2017 F-150 with a 2.7 Liter Ecoboost engine and the BOV does not open up for me on park at all, now when I’m driving it, it does sound off, and it sounds off really good on the highway, however while I’m in parked mode it does not open up. Either way I’m very happy with my purchase and man did I see an improvement in the turbo performance my truck ran so good I was easily reaching triple digit speeds while I was testing it out and wow it definitely made my truck pick-up and go so much better.

    • @TurbosmartHQ
      @TurbosmartHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We've seen that it's been hit or miss on some F-150's whether they can blow off at idle or not. There is not a lot of pressure to made with no load on the engine and free revving. What opens the valve is a signal from the ECU. If the ECU does not see a need to open the valve it simply won't.

      Turbosmart Actually it does work in park mode I just had to put my truck in Sport mode, which I did not have in the beginning. But now I get that BOV sound in park, a good tip to remember is if you want to hear the BOV in park, place your setting on Sport mode. Thanks again for the video tutorial it really helped me install it on my own. I’m very happy with the product and it sounds really good too. A+++++

      Definitely watch out for debris collecting in the bypass valve muffler/canister over time. The factory valve will give you some light noise with a VTA style mod like this, but if you're ever looking for something that's NOT plastic that becomes brittle over time (leaks), improves response, and has vastly improved boost handling capacity (very important if you plan to tune your truck) then our valve is an upgrade in every way 👍👍

    I see a lot of questions in the comments regarding going into water with this BOV submerged, but seems their support is answering all questions but this one? There is multiple questions about water etc.

    • @TurbosmartHQ
      @TurbosmartHQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry if it seems we are avoiding this topic as that is not the case. The valve will stay sealed as long as boost pressure is in the system. The solenoid assembly is weather sealed so submerging the valve is not a concern. If you modulate the throttle in such a way that the ECU sends a signal to open the BOV then there is a risk that water could get in depending on the situation (I.E. Water Depth, Current Strength, etc.) but remember that pressurized air is escaping out of this valve when it opens so water will have a tough time even getting in regardless.
      Be mindful when forging deep waters and try to stay on throttle as much as you can.

    3:53 "The top is off! Push that out of the way" Lol.
    I'm probably going to get this over the mechanical valve. I have read a few negative reviews that these vent prematurely, but those reviews sound more like a faulty part (or faulty truck side sensor) and not a design flaw. Even CAT sometimes sends out non-functional parts, so if that's the case it's not really a big deal.
    I would have prefered to get the mechanical valve, but I am not really a fan of those cheap connectors (for the resistors) that pierce the OEM harness. I specialize in wiring on ultra class mining equipment so maybe my standards are higher. But, You would think for the almost $500 Canadian Pesos that those resistors would be on a pig tail that plugs into the OEM connector. Even for the sake of keeping debris out of the plug left unplugged on the OEM harness.

    • @TurbosmartHQ
      @TurbosmartHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We haven't had any customers reach out about the valves opening prematurely. If we had then we would have The spring in the valve is the same one all the EM Vee Ports have come with since it released late last year. The only thing that can activate the BOV is the ECU sending a 12v signal to the solenoid on our valve.
      We are happy to inform you that about a year and a half ago we did away with that style of IDC resistor. We have since been using a plug and play style that connects directly to the factory harness like what you described!

    Does this sound the same as doing the VTA mod? Thinking of getting a bov purely for the sound (yes rice, idc) from watching a couple of videos of each they dont sound too far off from eachother, but some of the BOV videos the sounds are inconsistent even (this is the best sounding video of the BOV Ive found)
    Anyway, just for the sound should I buy the BOV or will it sound the same as the VTA mod?

    • @TurbosmartHQ
      @TurbosmartHQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some like to make the argument for the VTA mod, but if you look at the bypass valve on an F150 it has a muffler on it (2013+ Ecoboost F150s) which in our opinion reduces some of that sound you're after. Additionally, by disconnecting the recirculation tube you also open that up to potential debris along with the muffler on the bypass valve. The factory plastic bypass valve also doesn't do the greatest job holding all of the boost either which has a direct effect on how loud that sound is (more pressure being released = louder sound overall). Short answer, buy an actual BOV.

    • @TurbosmartHQ
      @TurbosmartHQ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With any electronically controlled vent to atmosphere valve, you may notice it's much louder, especially compared to the OE valve that was intentionally much quieter. When and how much the valve opens is based solely on the vehicle's specific ECU tuning. In our experience, Ford makes the valve open for a variety of reasons including start-up, power/traction management, boost control strategy, etc. This is all completely normal to experience. If you feel the valve is defective in any way above and beyond this, we are happy to inspect the valve under warranty. Feel free to reach out to us on our support page or call us and we will get you situated. www.turbosmart.com/contact-us

    • @TurbosmartHQ

      They will both work as you would expect but just in different ways. Performance wise they are also very similar. The audible blow off between the two is nearly identical.
      The Supersonic (MECHANICAL) valve will require you to modify the EVAP circuit lines to tap into a vacuum source. This in return will give you a true vacuum reference. The EM Vee Port has an electrical connection so it offers full OE integration and is a true plug and play unit. Less install time since no vacuum lines are needed. It would simply come down to your preference on installation as the Supersonic has a few extra steps.

    • @TurbosmartHQ

      No tune is required for the use of our valves. There are several variables that could effect the audible sound of the valve while free revving. The main one being the ECU not seeing a condition worth opening the valve for. As long as it opens under load and at full boost while driving is what matters most.

      Aside from the more robust materials offering longevity, the seal on the base of the piston is a softer rubber o-ring versus the hard composite material. This difference in material allows for a better seal over the factory which can lead to better spool up and response from the turbocharger in the low to mid end of the boost curve.

    I installed this same BOV on my 2013 ford f150 3.5 ecoboost. Car is now sluggish even more and no sound from the BOV. I know the truck had a leak at the exhaust manifold. Will this cause the BOV to not work properly?

      Stock 3.5L exhaust manifolds and gaskets are garbage ... 1st thing I took off and replaced was the manifolds. Manifold leaks make the truck run like crap.
      I upgraded to CR performance full bore pollished performance manifolds with all new studs and a stainless exhaust gasket. That in combination with a hyper tech MAX tune , and upgraded exhaust was at least 45hp increase. Pain to do though because both turbos have to come off completely. However it's a great setup. I have upgraded turbos and stage 2 cooling setup.

      It's possible, you can put something like a filter sock or foam wrap around it if you feel there is a chance that debris can easily enter the valve. Otherwise we have our new recirculating valve.

    I bought by truck (2018 2.7 ecoboost) with 47k miles on it a year ago and already had this valve installed on it. about every 3 months i lose my boost, my truck wrench light comes on and then shortly followed by the service engine light. the code read p0299 and my boost is lost. each time this happens my blow valve is not working, no sound. when i take it in to the performace shop, they diagnose it as "stuck blow off valve" the say the do a remove valve, clean lubricate and replace and then retest and boost is back. I get charged $400 for this each time. my warranty does not cover any of this... at this point do you think i should just replace the valve... i will take any suggestions, frustrated at this point.

      It sounds like it it was installed correctly if its blowing off under normal driving conditions (it may just be the ECU not allowing it to blow-off under those specific conditions). The factory ECU has full control over when the valve opens and closes so this is likely normal.

      Either will be a good option for your truck. It just comes down to ease of installation and if you have a preference to how they operate. The mechanical valve uses a vacuum reference and the EM valve uses a signal from ECU so it can operate similarly to the stock valve. The main difference you will probably notice between a stock application and modified application, such as yours, is the audible pressure release will be louder.
