      I love my 50mm for concert photography. It gets right up in the performers face; however I’m purchasing the 35mm next to be able to capture more of the performer and to be more versatile with my street photography.

      I’d also suggest taking a look at the sigma 16mm for concert photography. You could get in the face of a singer and possible get the band in too for a unique look! Thanks for checking the video out Brittany!

    My 50mm came with a hood, which is about twice as deep as the screw on one you had. I’m sure I read somewhere years ago that often hood shapes/sizes are specific to the lens due the way light might be reflected, so the other style may not work on the 50mm.

    Hi nice video! Do you also use clear image zoom? I have a new a6400 and 35 1.8 and I was thinking about either buying the 50 1.8 or just use the clear image zoom with the 35... Do you think is there a loss in the final quality? I shoot mainly videos. Thanks!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There isn’t much loss in good light. However the 50 is a fantastic lens and really sharp. For video I would try clear image zoom first, and if it doesn’t meet your standards look into the 50mm.

    I hope you can help me out with this question. I’m just getting into photography and I’m debating whether to buy the Sony A6000, Nikon d5600 or the Canon T7. What do you recommend for a beginner? I want to use it for TH-cam videos and taking pictures of my daughters dance recitals. Please help, thank you.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t like DSLR’s at this point anymore, so I’d recommend the Sony a6000. But for TH-cam it has quirks. No microphone input, and it overheats when doing more than 20 min of video. The a6000 is the only mirrorless you mention, and mirrorless are smaller, lighter, and have electronic viewfinders. An electronic viewfinder is where you look I. The viewfinder and it’s just like a screen, much like a phone, and you can change settings and see. The changes. On a DSLR you cannot see changes or even how a photo looks until you take it and then review it on the back screen. DSLR’s May have better battery life than the a6000, and a swivel screen, but they’re slower in shooting speed, heavier, and being phased out. Doesn’t mean a DSLR isn’t the camera for you. I work with canon t7’s at my job and they work fine, they do take good images, but I myself prefer a smaller, lighter, and better featured camera in the a6000. I film all my TH-cam videos with the a6000 but I use an external mic, and I stop recording at 15ish minutes and restart because I know the camera overheats around 20 min. Hopefully some of this helps!

    • @gabithemagyar
      @gabithemagyar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IRFAN-po5sz they are both good. Which is better for you depends on which camera you have and what conditions you shoot in. The 50mm has stabilization (OSS) so it's good if your camera does not have in body stabilization and you shoot hand held. If you use a tripod, shoot in dark conditions, have IBIS in your camera or really want shallow depth of field then the 56mm Sigma would be better for you.

    Both of these lenses one year later are about $100 more in price, than your state in your video. I am new to photography and am not familiar with how the "market" works, so to speak. Is it normal for lenses to go up in price in such an extreme amount?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fluctuations of $50 is pretty normal for a lens. If it’s on Amazon prices can vary from week to week to month to month. Like right now the Canon M50 is $150 off it’s normal price on Amazon. I always suggest checking the used section on amazon - the link below the item details! When researching you’ll kind of gauge the full price and then keep an eye on it from there. I use the honey add on for certain stuff I don’t wanna miss out on.

      I haven’t used the 30mm, but you can’t go wrong with either. Depends if you want slightly wider and better lowlight (30mm) or Sony brand, slightly more reach, OSS, and probably slightly faster focus with the Sony 35mm.

  • @ClassicalPan
    @ClassicalPan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do like that 35mm. I've seen other demos of the 50mm and it's awesome, but certainly a bit limited in application. As I said before, I am learning all I can now so I will have some direction when I start buying gear. I know my first lens will be the Sony 18-105. I just feel that it will be the most versatile, but I understand that at any given zoom level, there is a prime that can do it better. So I'm also getting ideas for prime lenses. As someone who's mostly only taken photos with a smartphone, I'm used to wide-angle everything, so I'm considering the Sigma 16mm as my first prime. I like landscapes and time-lapse.
    What do you think of 16mm as a first prime? I'm sort of on the fence between that and the Sony 35 (steady shot FTW).

    • @darksideemt
      @darksideemt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If landscapes is what you plan then the 16mm is what you want. I have it along with the 30mm and this was my 50mm he reviewed. When I travel and do landscapes I use my 16mm. When I'm just roaming and doing car stuff I have the 30mm on and on the rare times I do portraits I use the 50mm. It's also a good one for product photography (the 50mm)

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just gonna be resolution. When looking at things on a larger screen (higher resolution) it still has the same quality but you can see it more clearly if that makes sense. For video the XAVCS is the best codec to use, 1080p.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kit lens isn’t the sharpest lens in the world. So other lenses would provide sharper results. There is the 10-18 f4, but I’m in the fence on that lens. The sigma 16mm is awesome, but it’s not ideal for walk around type videos, but sit down videos it’s perfect.

Which lens would you say keep and which ones I could live without? I mainly use my camera to capture pictures/videos of myself when I am out with beautiful backgrounds, i like to travel as well. • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d ask yourself if you find yourself limited by any of them? If you’re say, it changing to other lenses and using one specifically, then maybe ask yourself why you use that (or whichever lenses) the most. If it it were me, I’d probably keep them all, but use the 18-135 and 50 only. You can sell the 16-50 and 55-210, not sure how much they’d go for. The Sigma 16mm f1.4 is an awesome lens. Might give you cool options for a lot of background but a lot of you (the subject) in the photo as well, at close ranges.

    Comparing apples and oranges. The lenses belong to two different categories. The 50 is a tele photo lens so the right thing to do would to compare it to other tele photo lenses. While you could use the 35 as your sole lens, that is not possible with the 50. It has nothing to do with being a beginner or not. First one needs a wide angle lens. The classic accompanying lens to a moderate wide is a moderate tele, in full format 35mm and a 85mm. For some people perhaps 28 / 50 (full format) is better. It’s a matter of taste.

  • @yellit1975
    @yellit1975 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think it all comes down to the types of photographs you like taking. I think that for portraits the 50 mm is a really good lens. You get great shots without having to either crop them afterwards or being so close that your sitter may feel uncomfortable. For general photography, I think the 35 mm is probably better; I don’t own and probably won’t buy it as I have the 50 mm and the 30 mm f3.5 macro.

    Ok so I can’t find someone asking this question anywhere but I have a sigma 35 1.4 and when I upload on Instagram I always have to crop losing the integrity of my photo and gaining the ugly borders...will a 50mm correct this issue?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it's the aspect ratio. When you post a landscape (horizontal) photo, it's fine, instagram doesn't crop a landscape photo (only on the grid). However when you post a portrait (vertical) photo instagram has a max aspect ratio of 4:5. In instagram the square is a 1:1 ratio, but then the max is 4:5 when you hit the expand option on a photo. Your entire portrait style photo will not fit that though. You can insert your photo into other apps that apply a border and preserve the aspect ratio and the entire photo, but when uploading directly into instagram your photo is going to be cropped to 4:5. Hope this helps! Usually when I know I want a photo for instagram, I typically step back slightly bc I know it will be cropped later on.

      Thanks! If you’re not seeing great sharpness with the Sony 35mm f1.8, then I’m not sure what your opinion would be on the other lenses. I love that lens and it’s sharp in my opinion. If you’re doing family shots, and landscape the 50mm would no doubt be too tight for that use. It sounds like the Sigma 16mm is a good lens for you. Remember, lenses may not be the sharpest they can be wide open.

Have you tried the 28mm f/2 or the 30mm signma against the 35mm? Or tried using the 35mm using the in-camera zoom mode to give you a similar view as the 50mm?
